Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Hell Gotouge themselves are rumored to be female, even if there is no real confirmation for that.
The author said that they don't like being called with feminine pronouns
I seriously hope none of the authors are hiding there genders due to them having a possibility of getting backlash for it. It seems that other shonen magazines are more
Probably not, the auther of fullmetal alchemist was hiding her gender untill midway through the manga, and nothing really changed for her manga's popularity.

Overall I don't mind having female editors or main charecters, shounen jump does mind though-not as much on having female much charecters-so hoping that a female main charecter would be it's face in this time period is futile(maybe 5-10 years into the future)

Also how do shoujo magazines run, do they have the same problem? Or are they better than shounen jump.

The author said not to call them with any pronouns at all, not just female ones.
According to the producer on Demon Slayer, Yuma Takahashi, Gotōge is not comfortable being referred to with female pronouns.

According to Takahashi, fans have made many assumptions about Gotōge's gender based on their writing style or other stray details, but Gotōge would like to be referred to with gender-neutral terminology (much easier to do in Japanese) and isn't publicly known as a female mangaka.

This is the exact quote.

What part of the "would like to be referred to with gender-neutral terminology" isn't clear here? The author asked to refer to them as neither male nor female since their gender hasn't been publicly stated. It's in your own quote.

Need some receipts for that, or is it hearsay and conjecture?

Hey I got a question, Has there ever been a case of manga from another mag or place moving INTO jump?
Essentially no. The closest it comes to a series moving from another magazine is that Bastard moved out of the magazine into their seasonal special magazine for a while, then moved back into Jump for a bit before moving to Ultra Jump. Also when Monthly Shonen Jump ended and was replaced by Jump SQ, there was a few months gap between the two magazines. During that gap, Gag Manga Biyori, Claymore, Rosario to Vampire, and Tegami Bachi ran chapters in Weekly Shonen Jump.

That’s probably because people hype it up to such an extreme standard that once they read it doesn’t reach there expectations so they drop it.
I find it unironically fascinanting that MHA always have this divisiness about it, I am also on the side that believe that the hate on MHA is due to it being hyped a lot when it was on its initial stages, that quite infamous (now used as a joke by MHA detractors) fanart about naruto passing the baton to deku while luffy says goodbye is very iconical of the initial hype it had going on
While I'm sure the hype could be a contributor to the criticism it gets, I wouldn't blame it as a main problem. My Hero Academia is the sort of series where it's flaws become apparent over time. For example Hori's problems utilizing his secondary cast, and developing his characters aren't the sort of thing that'd be readily apparent while reading the even first few dozen chapters. Then as you read years worth of chapters, the problems start to become apparent and are a deal breaker for some people.

Lmao, asking for female lead when there is still no female editor.
Why not? The two are essentially unrelated. We already have women mangaka who've worked in the magazine. We've also had female lead characters on the cover - both for romcoms where they tend to put the heroine like Chitose or Yuuna on the cover instead of the MC, and for series where the main character is female like TPN and Act-Age. Sure at the moment they seem invested in having Luffy be the biggest face on the magazine, but they had no issue putting Emma equal with the likes of Deku, Asta, and Tanjiro. I'm sure if One Piece hadn't still been around, it'd have been something like Deku, Asta, Tanjiro and Emma placed equally as the face characters of the magazine, much like it used to get for One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach or Toriko.

If we were to make a comparison, Jump is the WWE of manga. Both are run by absolute madmen to boot.
Hope you use "madmen" with negative intent, because Vince McMahon is an absolute asshole. Nak and pals are from that level of horribleness.

Harem or romcom have females instead of the boring forgettable protagonist in their covers and colour pages is obvious as hell.
Talking about pillar, Luffy-tier pillar, only Emma counts. And I can't remember a single instant of Emma being female matters to the story as all. She could be genderswap and that would change nothing to the story at all.

You could say the same thing about luffy, (no really she would have a way easer time on amazon lily), luffy's gender doesn't really affect the story in any way. (recruiting sanji wiudl be easier and that's about it)

Also do shoujo magazines have the same problem but reversed or do they have male editors and alot of male portaginst ? Also do other shounen magazines have the same problem? (I want to know if this a problem specific to shounen jump).

Tons of Shoujo manga have male protagonist.
About editor, I recalled a major shoujo magazine of Shueisha has male editor. Hell, iirc, Young Jump may have female editor as well (Aka talked about used to have a female editor). Which is why such an outcry against WSJ's employing policy.

Bessatsu Margaret has a male editor-in-chief if I'm not mistaken.

About Luffy, well, he is an idiot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Think about it, his behaviour is closer to a 7 year old rather than a 17/19 year old.
Or maybe he is just asexual/ foodsexual/ nakamasexual

Yeah that makes sense.
Also aren't young jump,Weekly shounen jump.... From the same company?
Why are there work policies so different.

In some aspects he is mature in others he is not, like real people but of course exaggerated because this is one piece everything is exaggerated.

I don't get the problem with the charecter's gender not mattering most charecters are like that(light yagami for example his gender doesnt really influence his charecter except for the not!romance) I can't think of a portaginst that has thier gender influence them(Offcourse they exist but I don't remember them)

Also another problem is when an author gives a female charecter feminine qualities people would say that the author is stereotyping and using gender roles, and when he doesnt people would complain about the charecter gender not mattering, damned if you damned if you don't.

Because there's no "Shueisha" policy, each magazine under them does its own thing in regards to how they manage it.

If only Emma has gotten that far is simply because TPN is the only series with a female lead that has reached that level of popularity. Obviously they would put a girl on the cover if she was the protagonist of a huge series.

Of course, that's easier said than done since the vast majority of WSJ series have male MCs. Is there even any exceptions to that now that TPN is gone? But hypothetically there's no reason why they wouldn't.

Naruto is pretty horny tho, and early Goku is in the line between childlike innocence and childlike horniness.
Medaka box is pretty sexual driven.

Now the influence of gender in a story is defined by how horny someone is? Make Sakura a dude and you can have the exact same dynamic with a female Naruto. Hell, make her simp for Sasuke instead. He was already doing it anyways.

Man=/= horny.
Innocense=/=man.
Sexual=/=a specific gender, it how sboth was. .

Being horny/charismatic/sexual is a charecteristic that Could be applied to both woman and men, the same with innocence.

Being sexual driven means their sexuality matter and so do their sexual attraction. And that's not male exclusive. Most of my example above can be applied for both male and female, which characters' sexual somewhat influence their decision making. Tho, I do agree, Naruto and Goku examples are pretty weak (Naruto early on seeks attention from anyone while Goku horny is play as a gag and throw away after his marriage).
Medaka box example is better tho, Zenkichi's affection toward Medaka is a strong plotpoint.

Now the influence of gender in a story is defined by how horny someone is? Make Sakura a dude and you can have the exact same dynamic with a female Naruto. Hell, make her simp for Sasuke instead. He was already doing it anyways.
I was countering his point, which stated none characters are influenced by their gender, not that horny = influence of gender.

I would like to point out that Ayakashi Triangle is already pulling in fanart, including 18+ art, on Twitter and pixiv. Nice to see people enjoying the series and especially Yabuki's fans standing with him after the weird case of so few Kishimoto fans showing up for Samurai 8.
