bone collection felt like its condensing some scenes and speeding on, can't think its not a bad omen to an early conclusion ;/

Damnit, Moriking is so good. It's just like early Mitama. LIVE!
Honestly, this Moriking chapter was super heartfelt and had some great quotes too. Shoko got a lot of character development this chapter, and the final panel just tied together the moral of this week's chapter perfectly. Glad we have manga like Moriking in these troubling times.

On the flipside, TPGW had a depressing chapter this week. The timeline stuff could be presented better, and the pacing has been worryingly fast, but I still thought the chapter was good. Rough TOC rankings but I'm hoping it can bounce back.

Haikyuu ending was brilliant, that final speech about volleyball was perfectly expressed, wow. It's been part of Jump ever since I started reading WSJ and it feels super empty and sad now that it's gone. Next spokon will have a big space to fill, geez.

Alright, my top 5 for the week...

1. Chainsaw Man
I felt a bit confused reading it at first, but after realizing what was going on...man, we're in for a ton of heartbreak. A really well done chapter.
2. My Hero Academia
A lot happened this week, and I have to admit my bias is coming through. One of my favourite characters is getting her chance to shine. The 14 year old me from a long time ago wishes that Tenten had it this good.
3. Moriking
Another wholesome chapter from Moriking.
4. Agravity Boys
Giving me Gintama vibes once again. God, this was hilarious. BROCCOLI MAGNUM!
5. Haikyuu
You couldn't ask for a better ending for the series.

As for some other series this week...

- I'm actually finding myself getting tired of the Lance focus in Mashle. I'm sure he's a very popular character, but it's getting dull for me now. 24 chapters in and we still have no idea what Finn is capable of...

- I like Fumino's arc much more than Rizu's, but for some reason I couldn't feel anything this chapter.

- I feel like Time Paradox is not long for this world. This chapter sealed those feelings. :/

OP: And this is why you should never trust a pirate.

Dr.Stone: Damn! Now that is a villain with conviction! He really went through with that order! Respect!

MHA: You go, girl! Show off what you can do!

JjK: Man, someone is really enjoying their newfound freedome. <.<

AT: Awww, Matsuri is making friends! <3

CSM: This was the saddest Snowballfight I've read about... ;_;

M&R: I actually liked this chapter. I liked how the kids treated Roboco nicely and in admiration not due her looks but due her abilities, which honestly are amazing even if she sucks as a Maid. I am a bit worried how Madokaaaaaaa got her name, her parents must have really screamed a lot when they named her. I also liked the facial expression changes and how Bando got totally overshadowed by his maid in the end there, lol. XD

UU: Wow, I had no idea the Union base would be THIS big, like damn, that is really huge. oO The flashback was important due showing where they stand on their relationship but gotta say, Tatiana is a real girly girl, what a cute room. I wonder what exactly her power is that she has to be inside a ball all the time. I hope we get to see her fully in the next chapter to satisfy my curiosity.

Haikyu!:
I liked this but I liked the last chapter more, probably because last time I knew mostly who was who, this time I was like "who?" most of the time and for real, how am I supposed to know when the kid who said Handball is boring appeared and in what context??? Still a strong ending albeit honestly I find it a tiny bit sad that our two main protagonist truly were handball fanatics, they have handball as brain and handball as heart and they will die with a handball in their hands. And that's all fine and dandy and very entertaining in terms of sport manga reading but like, you know, there is more to life than handball. Not that it matters anymore, it was a good finish, a real good one and it will be missed in future issues for sure.

HCD: Okay, yeah, that is terrifying. Also shockingly OP. I liked the talking about said power more than the gags, I miss a certain pervert from Beelzebub, that guy never failed to make me laugh~

Mitama:
Yeah, this one gonna live forever. Also why work a real job when youtuber (and female twitch streamer) are considered real jobs now?^^

Magu-chan: A bit weak, probably because no Ruru-chan in there, but still good.

BC: Not reading it.

Mash: Yeah, this is cool and all but can we go back to Mash already? Please? I just don't enjoy Lance as much as Mash is all.

WNL: Alright, done. Next girl, please! Let's wrap this up so we can get our sexy Sensei ending!

AA: Satsuki is cute and that is a universal truth and you all know it! <3

Yozakura: The development is really accelerating, isn't it? I expected a breather chapter here.

Moriking: And so Shoko made a new memory at the cost of her peaceful school life~

TPG: A whole chapter focused on Aino! <3
Seriously though, wasn't this basically another timeskip in all but name? That is a seriously fast development where we basically went from A to Z in one chapter. Also this Editor is a real failure, geez, you gotta stop your mangakas when they are like this, dude!

AB: Everyone hates Baba part 13. It is funnier when I think of it this way than the vegetable one. XD

BoneC: Again, really really quick development. Almost Zipman final battle fast.

This week was a bit more lackluster than last week, I am honestly not sure what to put in first place as I don't really think any release this week had a "yeah, this is spot Nr.1" feel to me like usual. Maybe I just rank 2-5th and let the first place vacant? Or maybe I just give some series a first rank as best outta the bunch or it is just CSM again, though honestly it felt more like a 2nd or 3rd rank chapter to me than a first one, maybe I got numb already.

Yozakura was alright this week, I do prefer when it does serious plotlines rather than episodic stuff

Mitama was great, got some laughs

Agravity was good, the broccoli jokes felt better than last week's and I liked how it felt like a Saint Seiya parody

Undead was good, I like Fuuko and Tatiana's relationship

Mashle was good too, solid fighting chapter

Moriking was really sweet, it's really been on a roll

Bone was fine, don't really care for it much at this point

Ghost Writer was great, I'm glad they're showing us this now, but I think it would've fit better a few chapters ago

Ayakashi was alright, still pretty neutral on the series

Magu was great, I'm glad to see it was able to still have a really good chapter that didn't entirely focus on Magu and Ruru

Dolphin was pretty good, this is it's first chapter that landed pretty well for me. Had some good jokes (like the dorsal fin one) and the sea creature/ocean cult stuff looks interesting

Roboco was good, probably it's best so far. Got some good laughs

One Piece, Dr Stone, HQ, CSM, and JJK were all great this week. MHA, WNL, and AA were also really good. It's crazy that out of the four series that ended for this batch, 3 were established series. Haikyuu's ending was great, and probably all that I could've wanted for it. Mad respect to Furudate for ending things when he did, as the series certainly had potential to go significantly longer if it wanted to with 2nd and 3rd years, or more time as pros (Not that I'd be complaining if it did though). Definitely the best ending out of the series that have ended this year. HQ>KnY>Yuuna>TPN

...Did you just start reading haikyuu this chapter or something? How do you get the sport wrong after 400 chapters, lol.

I'm glad I was not the only one who had this problem. I had to Google Search almost every single character named in this chapter trying to remember who they was.

TGPW is getting axed. Also the author has pretty weird beliefs. A Manga with no personality is what it takes for it to be the most entertaining thing in the world? What kind of logic is that? Is he trying to take shots at some of the current popular titles?

Top 3 for me this week is probably Yozakura, Stone and Chainsaw. I'm pretty sure by yoza bias is coming in here but whenever serious stuff starts happening in it I just get so damn hyped.

Also, I think this is the first issue in 2020 where either MHA or JJK havent been in my top 3. Not to say that they had bad chapters, mind you.

I don't think anybody is supposed to remember every character, but the importance relies on showing them. Haikyu!! as a series has always been built from the idea of a team sport that needs everyone synchronized and working together in order to reach a goal. Showing every character up to the end demonstrates how the strength and growth of every character has developed thanks to everyone. Growing, making friends, getting rivals on the court, gaining strength to continue playing and maturing. Those last words in the chapter are not placed or written as some kind of poetic closing, but they tie this whole meaning: everyone has had influence in each other's growth. Everyone has played with and against each other. Everyone has played like a team. Everyone has played volleyball. I think it's a really fantastic end that not only that, but also shows how much has Furudate loved every character he has created.

Great issue this week. Been reading Haikyuu!! weekly since chapter 17 got translated so this week is one to remember.
  1. Haikyuu!! - Perfect ending, a true celebration of the sport and the series as a whole. Liked how it ended on a note that shows there's more yet to come for these characters, whether we ever see it or not.
  2. Act-Age - An understated chapter but just as great as always. Everything about this Taiga arc is working so far, can't wait to see how each of the actresses influence the next one.
  3. One Piece - Probably the best chapter since the Roger flashback earlier this year. I've seen others complain that this isn't what they thought would happen but as someone who cares for everything but the cast of characters introduced this arc and their interwoven stories that really have nothing to do with the straw hats or the greater story, I'll take this development as a way to fast forward over the most boring content of Wano and get to a much needed climax. Big fan of Yamato already.
  4. Jujutsu Kaisen - Great action this week!
  5. Chainsaw Man - Another good action chapter but (surprisingly) Jujutsu edged it out.
  6. Black Clover - After catching up with this last week it feels odd reading just one chapter but I'm liking where this is going for Asta.
  7. Time Paradox Ghostwriter - Uhhhhhh I still like it but this is going way too fast. I really want the twist in chapter 7 to help this stick around but this doesn't bode well.
  8. Magu-Chan: God of Destruction - Another solid chapter. Nice to know it all checks out even when Ruru isn't involved.
  9. Mashle - Another solid one this week.
  10. Me & Roboco - The manga puns were great, especially the Act-Age references and Not Ba-kuman. This and Magu-chan are for sure the best of the new batch.
  11. Moriking - Every time we get a reminder that this all takes place over a few months I wonder how long this series is going to last (assuming it doesn't get cancelled). Cute chapter.
  12. Undead Unluck - The Fuuko/Tatiana bond came out of nowhere but I'm a fan.
  13. Mitama Security - I still want this to end soon but this chapter gave a few chuckles. Prefer it when it doesn't rely on the much less funny supporting cast.
  14. Mission: Yozakura Family - We keep getting teased for the big family secret that I hope it pays off. Enjoyed the double spread at the end, not sure if the series has done that before.
  15. Agravity Boys - Since catching up I've really enjoyed this series but this broccoli stuff is the low point so far so... hopefully this flashback is over now.
  16. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - This just doesn't work for me. The premise is just so bizarre, the gags aren't funny. I'm disappointed.

The whole jump manga is fast in the first chapters, except for the sports manga that always start with the tutorial chapters for the reader to use as the game works.

I didn't think we were supposed to agree with it? Like, the page where she says "why was I drawing manga again" is pretty clearly showing that's a weird mindset. And she collapses from overwork afterwards. But well, the story can still go either way, and if it does fall on the side of believing it, that would suck, yea. Let's see.

I think it can happen that he fails to save her in that timeline and then go back in time, to try to save her.
After all, this is still a time travel manga above all.

Me & Roboco's chapter was an improvement compared to the first ones. I could talk about Ayakashi Triangle but I'd sound like a broken record. Black Clover pulled something that was expected and which I thought would have happened sooner. I can't say I'm bothered, but can't say I'm excited either. Shakunetsu's plot is good, but it goes so slow and the execution doesn't get me hyped up for it. Moriking was very heartwarming and wholesome this week, definitely my favourite chapter of the series so far. Time Paradox just went way too fast and honestly it has lost me, ever since the twist a few chapters ago it has turned bland.

I really can't complain about getting a Lance chapter, can I? Haikyuu!! had a perfect chapter with all I could have asked for, it was emotional and funny. It was a good ride. Chainsaw Man had one of the saddest developments I've seen, but a good one. I don't know where this will end up, but I know my heart will keep being torn apart. Damn you, Fujimoto. Act-Age is absolutely gorgeous and I seriously hope it gets more and more attention. Bless Horikoshi for highlighting some 1-A students in this arc, it feels really compelling, especially when it's a character I adore.

There were a lot of callbacks to earlier characters but at least their names and schools were given. I'm glad Furudate left almost nobody out in the epilogue so any fans of those characters got a glimpse of them one last time. It's fair if that was overwhelming though.

And that's all fine and dandy and very entertaining in terms of sport manga reading but like, you know, there is more to life than handball. Not that it matters anymore, it was a good finish, a real good one and it will be missed in future issues for sure.
Sure, Hinata and Kageyama and the other pro players base their lives around volleyball, but the end of Nationals (Takeda's speech to Karasuno) and this entire final arc has shown the majority of the cast went on to do something other than volleyball in their adult lives, going so far as showing/telling us all their careers. For those who went on to become pros we saw how their high school years made them serious about the sport, but there's been plenty of focus the rest all 'graduated' from it and ended up doing something completely different. I'd say we've gotten a good balance of both and a very realistic look at how most people who play sports at high school don't end up playing seriously after they graduate, though they'll still have those connections they made from it.

My hero? (:
Not caught up yet sadly (though I'd be willing to bet I'd enjoy it). Still got that and Dr STONE to get up to date with!

It'll be weird to not have Haikyuu to read any more from next week, it was never one of my top 5 but I'll miss it being there. Otherwise, new series I found had notable moments this week

  • Mashle - it's interesting to see it doing a fully serious chapter this week (besides the colour page), I'm curious if the Japanese readers prefer the gag side or the serious side
  • Bone Collection - this certainly took a sudden shift in content this chapter, it definitely feels like an attempt at a genre-shift in response to low popularity
  • Ghost Writer - a timeloop does seem possible because otherwise, it's hard to see the plot lasting for more than maybe 5 chapters tops at the extreme pace it's going
