Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

About 'Hype', if you're going to say that the OP boost was because of Marineford since that's when it started rather than when it peaked, by that logic the most 'hype' arc ever in MHA is the Todoroki-Bakugo babysitting mini-arc and the Cultural Festival, because the boost towards its highest peak started with Volume 18. Sure, it peaked with the Pro Hero arc, but that was just following a trend. Volume 21 might still be the best-selling volume, but it's not that much higher than 20 and 22.

No, the real cause of this boost was probably that at the time the anime was airing the forest camp/kamino, that's where the 'hype' was coming from, not manga events. This matches what happened with OP, too.

So if this MHA arc is so 'hype' the big boost should be happening during Season 6 when it's airing in the anime, not now.
For all we know, there could be some buzz going on in Japan regarding the current arc that we don’t know about. But again, this just me speculating, and it was simply the first thing that came to mind to explain the increase in sales. As others have mentioned though, it’s probably more likely that the ease of lockdown measures may be the reason. The next few volumes are going to be something to keep an eye on, as that’s when shit truly hits the fan. Same for Neverland, due to it recently ending.

Everyone, we're going to implement a slight change going forward.

From now on, information that isn't directly related to WSJ/M+ (the magazine/platform and the series within) will be going into a new thread.

So this means, light novels/art books/fan books/data books/mangaka fanart/etc of WSJ/M+ series will no longer be allowed in this thread. Please do not discuss this change. It has already been approved by upper staff, and the decision is final and not up for debate.

Is 2020 the year with the lowest number of WSJ issues? Aside from maybe year 1 of publication.

usually we have 4 breaks per year, but this time there's 6.

Kaiju #8 is by an Iwashiro assistant who also did Neko Wappa and Pochi Kuro.

It's great that they are licensing 80s series stuff, but I have to wonder: Is this a good financial return?
Magical has 21 volumes
Shooting Star Gin is 18
and Sakigate is 34 volumes!!

Well since the service works by letting you read what you for $6.99 a month, I imagine they get some cut of that subscription per reader clicking into the series, so the longer the better.

Dont know what your worry is since no one is buying it per volume.

Didn’t know it was sub based, now i do
Now i’m def interest to see how they will roll out these volumes (ex 2 volumes/month or something like that)

I think it’s a huge missed opportunity for Viz that they didn’tstart translating classic series from the 70s-90s that never made it to the west (or if they did weren’t popular in the early days of the anime/manga boom), and then adding those series to the SJ Vault.

Even beyond those 70s-90s series, I think there are a ton of ppl who would kill to have an official place to read the entirety of Gintama, and Hitman Reborn, which both were discontinued in print in North America. Sure they weren’t successful in the mid 2000s, but they definitely have a solid fanbase now in the West, now that anime/manga is significantly more mainstreams

Jujutsu Kaisen volume 12 cover is so good.

Is this Mei Mei or is there any other axe crazy white haired woman in JJK

If you go through murata's twitter you will see that this is a collaborative effort not just murata (doesn't change the cool factor). Murata specifically drew Tanjiro as far as I can tell.
