Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

This has to be Jump’s worst year in sometime.

- Manga series from one of the biggest creators in the magazine’s history fails to take off and gets cancelled
- A series finally surpasses One Piece only to end at its peak
- The Promised Neverland also finishes a short run
- Haikyuu, one of the magazine’s biggest sports series in its history, ends
- Though not as big, Yuuna ends, with WNL in its way out as well
- Chainsaw Man potentially in its final arc
- One of the magazine clear future Pilars suddenly ends due to the writer’s poor decision, with the manga being left to fade into obscurity forever.

Jump really isn’t all that exciting now sadly :/. I know they always recover, but hopefully it’s sooner than later

Not really, jump is making an insane amount of money off of demon slayer still. Even if it ended the sales aren’t stopping (and not all of the volumes are out). It will probably sell above 1 million copies the next 2 years by the looks of it.

So much has happened between S8 ending and now that I forgot it ended this year. For some reason I thought it ended last year.

Remember when we thought the biggest shocker (although, not really) of the year was going to be S8 getting cancelled? Good times.

I suppose not necessarily the worst year for Jump financially, but certainly the worst year for its readers.
It was good the first half but once the 3 2016 manga and haikyuu ended, everything went downhill.

Personally, I like seeing Jump with an uncertain future.

It means they'll be more willing to experiment. That's how we got CSM and AA in the first place.
I liked what Rica said earlier about what future Jump serializations can bring. I forget the quote, but it was a very optimistic way of looking at it.

Jump will rebuild. One series at a time, but it will rebuild. We can celebrate the little things (Ao no Hako’s potential, MASHLE becoming a hit) and talk about how interesting Jump will become with all these new serials.

I welcome this new era. The newbiebowl is the biggest it’s ever been and I can’t wait to see who comes out on top.

I don't think WSJ will actually take the risk and experiment right now. They'll play a lot more safe now because they hardly have established series to fall back on.
Once Mashle and UxU are more established and WSJ has 9-10 series sorta established, then I can see them being more open to experimenting.

But this is very much a major transitional time for them. I hope they experiment but I just don't see that happening for now.

You say that but we're about to get the third exorcist manga this year, and we have 3 different series currently about a normal guy/girl who gets a new crazy strong silly mascot friend. The only thing so far this year that stands out to me as more experimental I think is Ghost Writer, and even that spends a lot of time just copying other popular stuff's plot points (mostly Steins;Gate) without understanding what made them work.

I really hope they get more experimental with series though. Even if they're total flops like ghost writer, it's at least more exciting than seeing yet another exorcist manga whenever a new batch is announced.

As 101Nemesis said, WSJ will be more experimental and take more risks if the current situation were better.

The uncertain situation makes them to play safe

Finally got the time to write properly, well RIP Act age, it really pains me to see this one go and being blacklisted seemingly for good, without getting to see where it was heading, such a great series with great characters, with a bright future ahead of it that was cut short because of so damn unfortunate circumstances, but this is Usazaki's and the editorial's decision and we cant do nothing about it. So happy to see Usazaki is getting a lot of support from so many people, looking forward to her next work.

Now with this week's issue, overall it wast bad, definitely prefered last week's chapters. Chainsawman has one f*ed up breather chapter, cant really tell where this going which I like. Mashle having a cool battle chapter with great art, tho it left me with some questions lol.

Magu-chan introducing a new character who is already a fun addition to the cast. Cop and Dolphin this time wasnt its best chapter, specially after the great one last week, tho I did get a laugh from the Jojo reference lol. Undead Unluck keeping up the hype, cant wait to see how this is resolved. F for Mitama, to bad it wasnt able to grow, will look forward to what Hatomune comes up with next.

Ayakashi this time was a fun read. Yozakura this week was something, while it may not be outright setting up a final arc like many assume, this turn of events felt way to sudden. Time Paradox unfortunately really seems to be warming up for its ending, really sad seeing a series that had a lot of interesting ideas getting cut short so suddenly but it is what it is, best of luck to Date in the future with his next project, maybe he can come back with one of his one shots as one of the new romcoms.

Also, back to something somewhat uplifting. After knowing Fujimoto drew inspiration from Abara, I reread it (reading good manga is a good way to distract you from horrible reality, I highly recommend doing it). And holy crap, its "main" character has Denji as his name, and his circumstance has some similar with our Denji's circumstance.
Excluding Abara, what other series have Fujimoto drew inspiration from?

Or does anyone have his bio like where he shares his fav manga?

I made an album of the artwork, every time there is a color page i tries my best to erase his name

These two are highlights among it

Imagine being a western fan of Jump right now if Viz never updated English Shonen Jump to simul-releasing the entire magazine as a whole. And it was still “We only translate the few popular series and the RWBY manga”
