Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

So many of the new series have ranked around the same spot at chapter 8 and it does seem they leave that spot for them and then they drop the following chapter and they actually start ranking, go either further down or fluctuating. It seems much more reliable to look at the rankings at chapter 10 and beyond now, rather than at chapter 8. Dr. Stone and My Hero Academia have really cemented themselves as the top contenders of the magazine along with the immovable rock that is One Piece, the difference between these 3 series' averages is huge.

Agravity Boys is back at the absolute bottom once again. Honestly, it's just waiting to be axed and it only keeps going because other stuff has done worse, it's a similar case to Mitama Security, but even this one got a few CPs while Agravity Boys has spent most of its run in the bottom 5 and without any glimpse of CPs. Black Clover doesn't seem to let go of that spot, it has been there 4 times in the past 8 issues, it has become some kind of gatekeeper of the bottom part of the ToC.
BC just got a color page. Dont really know what your concern is about with it.

I assume that's because there nothing really to have to promote BC on. It's not a series which Jump has motive to build up as it's neither a top-seller nor an up-and-comer, it's just a series with an established fanbase with nothing really needed to promote. It exists now to exist for itself, and nothing else.

I never said it was a matter of concern, I just pointed out a curious fact and nothing else. It shows much more concern from you being on the defensive about it than the other way around.

Kind of wish We Never Learn was the gatekeeper to the bottom instead of Black Clover. It's definitely fulfills that role a lot better since it's essentially a filler series. At least Black Clover doesnt seem to be ending anytime soon.

Ghostwriter... goddamn. It was definitely the most interesting new series in a while. If not from a story standpoint, than from a reactions standpoint. It was super interesting seeing the wildly different reception the series has in both America and Japan. Now it'll be interesting seeing all the reactions to this news on Twiiter and Reddit.

That twitter thread is a beautiful salt mine.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

it'll definitely be an early cancelled series that will stick in my memory
this gonna stick in my memory too, but for other reason: salty Western fans and a lesson of unique premise meaning jack shit when execution is pure trash.

Suprisingly high rank for Dolphin and stable positioning for Triangle, but seems like that's a given now.
The real test is to see if that actually translates to sales.
Also a decent hold for Magu, but again, would it sell.?
Roboco's ranking will be an interesting one. I would say it would have become the last place gag series (even has shorter chapters than normal) but Isobe's author is returning so.....

BC was/is as life changing as Naruto was to me. I don't want to see it meet an untimely demise as it barges toward heights no ones ever seen before.

With how many open spots there are in the magazine Black Clover isn't going to get cancelled anytime soon. It'll likely get the Bleach treatment where it will stay in the bottom 5 with the occasional bump, with not have many CPs since it won't have much to promote and have passed its sales peak, and be allowed to stick around until it comes to an end. Though I imagine in time it would be gently pushed in that direction if the magazine does get a resurgence of newer popular series overtaking it. It won't have the same luxury as Bleach had in staying in that position for 3-4 years.

Is this unique though? It has happened with every single literal series that has been axed since Tokyo Shinobi Squad. Cancellation threads at this point are a repetition of the same commentary no matter what the quality of the series is.

I think TPGW writer it’s at a way larger scale than we’ve seen run a while(other than S8, which is obviously a special case)

IMO, a larger scale should include a larger diversity of ideas, criticism, and commentary. This is just having the same exact comment or meme but repeated 5 times, which literally gives you nothing more than what we previously had. The subject is always the same, western readers get attached to series that can easily end quickly in the magazine, and they later complain or feel sad. There's seriously nothing, it's just empty copy-pasted commentary for each published series.

Is Kimetsu no Yaiba anywhere near the 100 000 000 sales/copies in circulation?

They only update the numbers when a new volume is released and the next one only comes in October, it should be at least at 90 million in circulation by then.

More or less, except this time they hung up on the word plagiarism without knowing why people actually hated that plot thread.

The most used comments when a jump manga is cancelled (No 1 will. surprise you)

"Japan has shit taste"
"Jump has been axing more manga recently"
"Jump only like generic shonen"
"People reading jump are children/teenagers so it was too deep for them"

Why did people ate that plot thread? Remind me again. People keep saying "the Japanese hated the MC because he plagarizes, yet they dont take other stuff seriously" and honestly, I'm failing to understand here.

Long story short it flies in the face of self-improvement as a concept (which is integral to East-Asian mindset) and to Japanese readers Sasaki just comes off as a somewhat pathetic coward who continually fails to actually improve as a person.

I feel like that’s a completely false narrative created by some ppl.

It’s not so much that the MC is a plagiarist. It’s that, despite recognizing that he’s doing something wrong, he never back down from what he’s doing. He continues to do it, and cries “woe-is-me”. And despite all of this, he’s never reprimanded for this. He’s constantly rewarded and is told about how great he is constantly.

I’m pretty sure that the plagiarism angle would have worked, even for a Japanese audience, had it been executed better. The problem ppl had was that the MC became more and more unlikable every chapter, to the point that he could no longer be relatable, and readers could no longer sympathize with him at a certain point. I doubt Japan hates plagiarism so much that they’d outright boycott a series for having it asa topic. If the series executed the issue of plagiarism better than they would have bought and followed it

When MC realized that he plagiarized the manga he felt he did the wrong thing, but then the author introduced an editor telling him some thing along the lines 'he doesn't know what his circumstances are but he should keep going for the sake of hundred of thousands of readers that fell in love with the series' so the MC was plagiarizing for them.

Next chapter he was still beating himself over it, so the we got the female lead aka the original creator telling him that her series belongs to him now. This is probably what pissed people off the most, her unrealistic response to her life work being copied was just to wave it away without any questioning.

Then you had an entire chapter about how he couldn't trace her work and about him doing it with his own style. While also feeling bad about it.

Not to mention he was never using any money earned from plagiarizing the manga so the time machine gave him some lottery numbers to reward him annnd he still feels bad about it.

The MC was getting more and more unlikable with every chapter, while the world itself seemed like it bending itself to point out that his actions are not really that bad, but he keeps whining about what he is doing is wrong and that just piss people off more than anything else. There is nothing else to like about him.

This is not the only issue with the series though, just the plagiarism part.

has series that present problems much worse than TPGW and are successful.

this whole discussion about plagiarism was a childish reason that hurt the series for nothing.

It is very likely that the author will not return, since this was his 3rd attempt.
