Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Well, like Dragon Ball Super, I don't think there are any big problems.
Did you call DB Super "just profitable" ?? A series that some chapters turn down most of the streaming sites and where crowds of people watching it??

Someone have the week by week sales of Samurai 008?? I was jocking thet Burn the Witch will sell more than the 5 vols of it and I think it wasn't that far actually.
Pretty sure a full month of BtW might outsell all 5 volumes of S8. Though, I'm just going off memory here

As for Boruto, even the sales of the Super manga are not proportional to the success of the original manga series.

In the end they sell well for a series on V-Jump, the focal point of the franchise is now the anime and the films, so much so that Toriyama and Kishimoto don't give a damn until they get the royalties ...

Bot the manga sell well for the magazine where they are and that's okay with them.

That's not a fair comparison at all given Dragon Ball Super's manga started 20 years after the original ended. Boruto meanwhile started less than two years after Naruto ended.

Let's say that between sequels, revivals and anything else Dragon Ball has never really gone away.

However this does not change the concept I have expressed.

So BtW would need about 140-150k to outsell all S8 volumes. Pretty doable. It's been pretty stable on the charts as well.

Kubo must be happy with BtW being another 100k seller (potentially 200k). Good for him.

Really? Outside of budget video games, what new Dragon Ball media was there released between 1997 and 2008?
Dragon Ball went away for a long time, making Super mostly a nostalgia product for people to relive their childhoods, and introduce the franchise to their own children/grand children.
Boruto was released rather quickly after its predecessor ended so it still was riding the coat tails of Naruto's popularity and clearly was not successful at maintaining even a semblance of its former readerbase.

This are your considerations

The facts are that Boruto is the sequel to Naruto, so it is really difficult for them to close the series because the volumes do not sell who knows what amount ..

Then as mentioned, he is finding his success in other areas such as the anime and has already been protagonist 2-3 times on the cover of V-Jump magazine ..

Like Super. That's the paragon

Howewer speak about disaster and ruined reputation of Kishimoto is oretta riducuolous

Diverting the topic away from Bort for a bit, have we ever had a jump series where a sequel or spin-off became more popular than the original?

There's a few different series where the sequels and spinoffs altogether are longer than the WSJ original run (Otokojuku, Ninku, and Kinnikuman for example) but I can't think of any that are more popular.

Would Stardust Crusaders count? I mean it was for a while the most well known part and Jotaro was like more popular than Jonathan and Joseph, I think

They can rush the series to a close whenever Shueshia feels they can't possibly get any more out of it, which will likely be soon. The series isn't immune to being cancelled simply because of Naruto's brand name alone.

To Love Ru Darkness?

iShoujo+ lasted and sold better than iShoujo.

Jumbor possibly. From Takei, got cancelled real quickly in despite being a huge passion project, however Takei got a chance to reboot it a few years later in Ultra Jump. Never got ultra popular there, but managed to run for quite some time before that period where Takei rushed all of his simultaneously running series to an end (on a similar note, Butsu Zone takes place in the same universe as Shaman King so you could maybe see SK as a spinoff).

Perhaps not more popular, but Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal is a masterpiece OVA that adapts and expands upon material from an arc usually viewed as the weakest of the series.

Arguably To Love Ru Darkness. The first 4 volumes 2,000,000 in circulation and the fourth volume had a first print of 500,000. Meanwhile, the first 4 volumes of the original series had 1,000,000 in circulation while its first print peaked at 330,000 with volume 13.

70s answer but Play Ball (the biggest Jump spokon in that decade) was serialized as a spinoff of Captain and became more popular.

Hmmmm Dragon Ball Super is really really popular, but Dragon Ball (Z) was a titan in 90s, so I'd say this isn't the case. And Saint Seiya Lost Canvas was less popular than Saint Seiya. Dunno how things are with Prince of Tennis - New Prince of Tennis.

I don't have any resentment towards a manga that's pretty much ongoing due to milking and giving profit to a franchise that's bound to live on forever due to the legacy it has behind. That still doesn't delete the literal fact it's a declining series. How is losing +200.000 during a run acceptable? Are you just that naive or just trolling? Hopefully the later; realistically, and sadly the former.

You know you have a serious issue when you consider a profit decline that keeps on going and keeps bringing up criticism something actually good or acceptable, for any franchise. It's like saying that even if I have 10 loyal consumers and I lose 9 then I'm still all good and everything's fine. Sure, in your happy world. And that just literally proves the author or people responsible for the work have been incompetent at bringing something interesting or long-lasting to the previously gotten audience. If your brain can't handle this reasoning, then let's put it in a more simple way: If your product keeps selling less and less then there's something wrong with what you're doing. Or maybe the series is now a skillfully made masterpiece that little people understand so it's less bought with time like the marvelous Time Paradox Ghostwriter? Should we accept every profit loss as something good as long as it has what we subjectively consider good numbers? I mean sure, it's the same argument One Piece fans tend to use when it comes to series' sales. Objectively speaking, it's called pure denial.

So yeah, Boruto is overall a pathetic franchise that has shown Kishimoto didn't offer a product appealing enough to an audience that has been steadily decreasing. Hence, making him lose fans or loyal people waiting for his next work. And those are facts, no matter how much you want to make up with oh my MANGA Plus views. Yeah, all milked franchises with not-worth content of considerably lower quality keep an audience, of whatever size that is. Exactly like Pokemon or Digimon. The quality of those products is completely different though.

Still, I don't even get the point of writing this. You're just gonna dismiss every single point I make, answer with dumb stuff I already touch in this text, keep spamming your dots, think this is some kind of provocation, and this probably may even get removed by some mod due to being aggressive. Can't blame them, I seriously can't stand talking to a wall.

Anyway, good luck. Keep your delusions about the franchise and be happy. There will be tons of people like you out there who are not able to objectively understand the trajectory, purpose, and results of a product they enjoy and keep being blinded by pure emotional bullshit, so you're not alone! Not gonna waste more time on a dude that's just not able to discuss properly.
See ya for the next 6 years at least (already 4 from the 10 stated by Kodachi), probably a lot more for the anime since is a pretty good success :super

Just because Kodachi said he wants it to run 10 years doesn't necessarily mean Shueshia will let it.
They clearly had much higher expectations for Boruto than it ended up delivering. The series is on life support and the the current arc could very easily be the final one.
That said, I actually like the current arc quite a bit. Would be cool to see it crossover with Samurai 8 at the end now that aliens and other planets are brought back into the plot.

Personally I'd really like to see both of them come back to WSJ (either together again or with separate partners) after Boruto ends. I really love Ikemoto's art, and I find Kodachi to be a far more competent writer than Kishimoto. I get more enjoyment out of the Boruto manga than I ever did in Naruto (which I honestly never have liked very much)

lol the series isn't even halfway yet, the manga will never be canceled for 2 reasons, V-Jump and being a multimedia project, the manga can drop to 50k copies and nothing will happen since V-Jump doesn't care about manga sales (and would still be like the 2nd best seller in it) and the franchise as a whole is very profitable specially the anime that is it own more detailed version of the whole story and with Kodachi working with the staff, so really, i don't have single drop of worry about Boruto's future, but i'm happy you're enjoying the manga, it's been great.

Super unlikely given how much HxH still sells when its around but it would be super amusing to see Hunter x Hunter transferred to V Jump and run alongside Dragon Quest and Yu-Gi-Oh manga,

I can say that regardless of whether sales are down or not, Boruto will not be canceled.
1) because he's not in Jump for a long time, he's in V jump, and I don't know how things work.
2) his anime still has an audience and is successful, so it is decided, we can complain about what is his but he will continue I don't know until when.
