Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often with both Spanish and English chapters. Pretty much just after Boruto and DBS release only 1 other series (like MHA this week) needs to do better than it and it should happen almost every month (I only have English chapters visible so I'll probably never see it though.)
"only 1 other series (like MHA this week)"

The thing is, MHA is the only series that stands any chance of doing this right now. Just look at the gap between 6th and 7th place.

And even just after the release, Spanish-Boruto and English-DBS don't usually surpass OP's level. It's only happening this week because OP missed two chapters in row, so it has roughtly 20% less views than usual.

Given that one piece isn't as popular among the English speeking audience I am surprised it ranks as highly on there (given that dragon ball and naruto are massive in America)
DBS and Boruto only appear once a month, so they have a lot less opportunities to get views (M+ shows the combined views of the last 5 weeks).

Also, don't be fooled. That DBS up there is the Spanish version.

The streaming aspect of it? Or the fact that they said the original work's quality is the big factor that helped?
Like Takahashi mentioned, its many factors such as the series having a wide appeal to pretty much all age groups, timing (manga was at its final arc), ufotable's exceptional work and yes the streaming aspect as well
Kimetsu Producer Takahashi Yuma had an interview with nikkei(He won marketer of the year) with some information on how they handled Kimetsu Marketing/Production
1- Takahashi is a fan of the manga so shortly after the series started, he approached Shueisha to adapt it into anime and he decided for Ufotable to adapt because he felt it fits them(Battle scenes, mostly takes place at night etc) and he has been working with them for more than 10 years
2- The depiction of blood was important so they decided to air it in a late night slot to not censor anything
3- While most late night anime airs in 5-6 channels, they contacted more than 20 channels to air it and more than 20 streaming services to have the anime so it could reach a lot of audience.
4- Ufotable asked for the first episode to air without commercials
5- They wanted the opening song to be heavily associated with the show so they decided that it won't change during the 26 episodes

The full interview is here but you need to register to read it.
With the exception of the push for more streaming services, we were already aware of these factors that made Kimetsu so popular for quite some time tbh

I was asking what @pamuchi meant by her comment that "This could apply for future adaptations".

Mostly referring to the streaming part and the attitude towards adapting the series, these can really help for future adaptations to reach a wide audience as long as they take this into account I think.

Random. But with Fist of the North Star being licensed for physical and digital release, I really hope we get to see City Hunter license soon

if my prediction is correct. The next one in theory should be Captain Tsubasa. This prediction will rely on the translation of Fist of the Northstar (whether they used a completely new translation, or bought the already translated English complete version) as I've stated couple days ago.

Personally I am hoping for Slam Dunk new 20 volumes edition AND Houshin Engi new volume edition but the anime probably killed its chance of licensing

Yeah, think streaming will be something to keep an eye on going forward. Just for the sheer fact that it's becoming the most popular form of consuming such media worldwide.

Another random thought. But I remember like a year ago or 2 there was a discussion about “Will Jump ever have a manga surpass One Piece’s life time sales”.

The common answer was either “No”, or “not in our lifetime”.
But I think it’s crazy to think, that If Demon Slayer ran for just a year or 2 longer, I honestly think it would have been likely that it surpassed Dragon Ball and Naruto’s lifetime sales.
When I put that in perspective, I don’t think surpassing One Piece’s lifetime sales is as out of reach as I once thought. Granted, it’s still probably won’t happen anytime in the near future. We probably won’t see the combination a series strike Demon Slayer’s success, and also running very long, anytime in the near future.

Is there a Japanese box office website where I can see Kimetsu no Yaiba's movie grossing faster than on "BoxOfficeMojo"? this website update very slowly for foreign movies.

It wouldn't, DB has 250/300 million copies and Naruto 250 million, just another 8 or 10 volumes wouldn't make Yaiba surpass them.

You are assuming that kny's popularity would stay at the same level of growth and conteniue with its exponential growth rate, when it's growth rate has platued at a high level but it stablized non the less, let's say that demon slayer circulates 6 million copies per volume and stops at that number per volume(assumption) it would have to release 78 volumes meaning 55 new volumes to reach one piece's circualtion that's about 10-12 more years of new releases(that's assuming it's popularity would stay the same all the way through).

78 volumes is longer than all of naruto's run by the way.

For it to reach one piece at its current volume count it would need around 20 million copies per volume.

For it to reach dragon ball/naruto(250 million circulation) with 6 million copies per volume(assumption) it would need to reach 41 volumes meaning another 18 volumes (assuming Consistent popularity) which is about 4 more years of circulation

Offcourse it's possible for a series to reach one piece levels of circulation but it would need both high popularity and high consistency and if it wants to surpass one piece in a shorter time frame than say 30 years, it would need to be more popular than peek one piece and stay at that level from beginning to end. (this is talking about a new series)

One piece despite its decline in sales is still the most consistent long running manga(100 volumes long) which is impressive Cosidering that most(not all) series start declining at volume 20(or a bit higher or a bit lower).

Tdlr:demon salyer wouldn't have reached one piece/naruto/dragonball total circulation in 1 or 2 years, it would have needed at least(without another huge jump in popularity) 4 more years to reach naruto/dragonball and another 10 (from now) years to reach one piece. (explanation is in the post)

It seems that they will be showing the remaining episodes of Kimetsu (6-14, 22-26) on Kansai TV, 2 episodes every week on Saturday by 7pm

Isn’t it already at 100 mil with its current volume amount? I believe 10 or so more volumes could have done it

And either way my point still stands. I’m just saying, while still astronomically difficult, I believe surpassing One Piece is doable now.

You're talking about Yaiba selling 150+ million copies with just another 8 or 10 volumes, it's impossible unless each volume goes over 7 million copies or something like that, which will not happen.

Also, the Yaiba numbers includes digital, if i'm not wrong DB and Naruto numbers don't, which would probably give a good boost for both, making even harder to Yaiba.

10 more volumes wouldn't have been enough to reach naruto.

Demon slayer reached 100 million with all of its circulation (light novels+digital+normal) but since that was a relatively long time ago(a month ago maybe?) let's assume that demon slayer has currently 110,000,000 circulation with only its physical circualtion that means each volume has 5 million copies in circulation(that's an assumption it's probably lower).

In 10 volumes if it stayed consistent it would have reached 160 million per circulation that's about 90 million short from naruto's circulation world wide number and about the same as naruto's Japan circulation number,if it stayed at that 5 million per volume level it would need another 28 volumes which is about 6 years in circulation.

In my original post i assumed demon slayer would reach 6 million in all of its physical volumes circulation(including the old ones) and even then it would have needed 18 extra volumes to reach naruto which is about 4 years.

It's possible for demon slayer to reach one piece level of circulation just like its possible for jujitsu kaizen to have the same level of explosive popularity as demon slayer, is it technically possible sure? It is going to happen? Unlikely(but still possible).

Tdlr: it's possible to reach one piece level circulation, it's just these types of explosions in popularity can't be predicted so it's useless to speculate, if it happens it happens if it doesn't, it doesnt.
