Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

10 more volumes wouldn't have been enough to reach naruto.

Demon slayer reached 100 million with all of its circulation (light novels+digital+normal) but since that was a relatively long time ago(a month ago maybe?) let's assume that demon slayer has currently 110,000,000 circulation with only its physical circualtion that means each volume has 5 million copies in circulation(that's an assumption it's probably lower).

In 10 volumes if it stayed consistent it would have reached 160 million per circulation that's about 90 million short from naruto's circulation world wide number and about the same as naruto's Japan circulation number,if it stayed at that 5 million per volume level it would need another 28 volumes which is about 6 years in circulation.

In my original post i assumed demon slayer would reach 6 million in all of its physical volumes circulation(including the old ones) and even then it would have needed 18 extra volumes to reach naruto which is about 4 years.

It s possible for demon slayer to reach one piece level of circulation just like its possible for jujitsu kaizen to have the same level of explosive popularity as demon slayer, is it technically possible sure? It is going to happen? Unlikely(but still possible).

Tdlr: it's possible to reach one piece level circulation, it's just these types of explosions in popularity can't be predicted so it's useless to speculate, if it happens it happens if it doesn't, it doesnt.
I believe it’s doable

And I’m not arguing that a series will surpass One Piece and time in the near future, or speculating that about a series that will do it. I’m just saying, something that I once thought was impossible is something I view as feasible, even if unlikely

You guys are forgetting a very important detail: those are worldwide numbers for both Naruto and Dragon Ball. When it comes to Japan sales only, Kimetsu no Yaiba would have pretty high chances of surpassing them.

Yeah it could in a few years, if the Hype doesn't die down(in pure physical circulation numbers not with digital and light novels)

One things is almost a certainty is that demon slayer is surpassing bleach next year other than that it would depend on if it can even attract more readers than it already did(since everyone seems to be reading demon slayer in Japan) given all the exposure it already has.

In Japan sales only, maybe (I doubt it, but maybe). But we're talking overall sales, and I don't think KnY is that big in other countries to the point that it would add a significant count to worldwide sales.

What is Naruto's circulation in Japan anyway? ~150 million maybe?

That's definitely a reachable number through lifetime sales, especially if it keeps getting a new boost with each new anime project.

Yaiba sales also includes digital which both Naruto and Dragon Ball don't, so in the end we don't even have the actual total for these two solely in Japan.

Kimetsu posts good numbers in the west and is very big in asia, season 1 is one of the most watched series on bilibili (china) afaik and the manga was among the most read, was regularly #1 by a big margin on manamoa (korea) as well. Worldwide would probably be big but not big enough to surpass naruto or DB in overall sales, this seems like kind of a weird argument to have though lol, KnY only has 22 (soon to be 23) volumes worth of content after all. I would say the final number for 23 will probably be like 120mln or so, higher if they decide to include ww into it, it'll grow through new editions etc. over the years but 250mln is setting the goal way too high imho, I doubt it'll get even close to be honest. That would mean an average of almost 11mln copies per volume (or a bit less due to novels being counted in), it's not even halfway there, so i really wonder why we're even having this argument when it should be a pretty clear no.

That's a very good cover, kinda funny how we got such a goofy JJK cover given the tone of current arc though lol.

I just brought up that I think if Demon Slayer ran for 2 more years or so( 10ish volumes) I believe it could have had a shot in surpassing or matching those sales.

Whether ppl agree or not, I believe ppl took my comment too seriously and was arguing semantics.

Whether 10, 20, 30 40 volumes, my statement wasn’t about Demon Slayer surpassing One Piece, or arguing that Demon Slayer specifically would could continue to sell at the same rate it’s entire run.
I was just saying that I once viewed surpassing One Piece in sales was something impossible, or that we wouldn’t see it our life time; and that Demon Slayer’s rapid success made believe that it wasn’t an impossible task. I’m not saying that I think we’ll see it happen in our lifetime, or anytime soon. Just that I don’t think it’s impossible.

Oh yeah, sure, this I can get behind with. A lot of "certainties" have been shattered over the course of the past year. I don't think it's impossible that a long runner that can surpass One Piece will eventually appear, although I think it's still extremely low chance (0._%), especially since I kind of feel like we're over the era of long runners tbh.
