Personally I think some of MHA’s influences go beyond Horikoshi’s manga influences.

I see Deku being more inspired by Peter Parker, with a little bit of crybaby thrown in. and I feel like Horikoshi himself has said Spider-Man was a major influence for him on the manga

Yeah, I see zero similarities between Tanjiro and Naruto.
Deku and Naruto, sure.

Deku is sort of a mix of Gon and Naruto. He's smart but he's also emotional when he fights.

Yeah, as for Tanjiro, Katayama (Kimetsu's first editor) said this from that interview earlier this year (roughly translated):

Katayama: "In the opinion of my senior, Hunter × Hunter has many unusual characters, but the main character, Gon (Freeccs), is an ordinary person. That's why it's easy for readers to empathize. And when Gon is in the center, the fun of the other characters will stand out.

Gotouge-sensei thought the same, that it would be just right to place an ordinary person in the center and place abnormal characters around him. That's where Tanjiro was born."

Interviewer: "Please tell us more about the story."

Katayama: "In fact, it seems that the character of Tanjiro himself was originally in sensei's head. He was just a side character for them."

Interviewer: "Oh, is that so?"

Katayama: "After serialization didn't work out, I talked about changing the protagonist to another person, and asked, "Is there a child a little more normal in this work?

Then there was a boy selling charcoal, a boy who had his whole family killed and his sister turned into a demon. The boy entered the Demon Slayer Corps to return his sister to human. Isn't that a hero?

This fateful character is the driving force behind the story. Gotouge suggested that the child be the hero, and wrote it again. The result was Kimetsu no Yaiba."

Why did Shimabu draw Gaimon again? I know it's his favorite character but it would've been cool to see him draw Kaido. With how he draws Midora, it would've been a treat to see his take on Kaido. He already drew Gaimon for One Piece's 10th anniversary...

Lol I don't understand what is your fixation on volume sales to judge whether KNY might be popular than One Piece because it only has 1/4 amount of volumes. I don't understand why you ignore the past that get up to the present

It has 3 million copies FIRST PRINT every volumes for the last 10 years, that almost half of it time (22 years). No series in Jump has achieved this. It stays interesting and popular enough for it to warrant that many copies for 10 years.
One Piece Tokyo Tower which operated for 5 years, and closed recently this year due to Covid (rip)
One Piece is the first manga to hold a Dome Tour in Osaka
It has video games from the PS1 era, and the first one produced 4 years after its serialization.
One piece merchandise still sell, and companies still making them
The first episode has 12.4% viewer rating.
The anime is still constant top 5 on Fuji TV

Since its serialization in 1997, it was destined to be a Jump pillar. It never drops out of top 4 on the ToC

While I am not denying that Kimetsu is the hottest thing right now in Japan, nobody was there during 2002~2003 period to gauge how popular One Piece was at the time. The point I'm trying to make above is SALES are not everything to determine popularity

Well, the first one is really boring (on purpose): a boring chair, stale expression, which suits the character. Later one have fancier chairs that suit other characters' more expressive attitude/personality trait.
I still hate the background colour tho.
