Not even Oda could boast an achievement, if this is really the first time a Jump mangaka came in.

Wondering if Akutami will be able to be in that list next year, seeing how Jujutsu Kaisen is having a similar growth to the one Kimetsu had last year.

Kimetsu keeps adding to it's legacy. This is pretty remarkable. Just shows how big of an impact Kimetsu has had.
It's something that will remembered for decades to come.

Considering the emphasis on movie dollars and anime in that write up I dont think JJK would get selected unless it too performed on spirited aways level.

Mashle getting next issue's cover was obvious but it's still nice to see. Otherwise not a particularly notable ToC, Sakamoto looks low but it's still 7th removing the new series and colour pages, and Magu-chan's in 5th last but something has to go there now that we've lost 3 perma-bottoms at once.

Regarding Phantom Seer, it might be selling a above the recent newbies but it's not a runaway success or anything like some seem to be making it out to be, it's selling a little above some other newbies which are themselves just selling at a okay level. It has alright sales compared to okay sales, not some secret big hit ignored by the magazine.

Also WSJ has always prioritised ToC and variety alongside sales rather than just sales. There's still a decent chance of Magu-chan outlasting Phantom Seer for example, if Phantom Seer can't improve in the polls while Magu keeps doing okay.

Not for Mashle neither Undead Unluck. Boruto is 46th. Dragon Ball Super is 38th. Jigokuraku is 37th.

Just adding that CSM in the 4 months we have had for 2021 Oricon has almost the same number. And all this without anime.

I wonder how will Chainsawman grow with anime in Fall-Winter and with the fact that Part 2 will very likely be happening already.

We already assumed Jujutsu is beating One Piece this year. But there is a small chance Chainsawman could also beat OP at the end of the year.

I'm pretty sure that if in 90's the world would has been globalized like is today, people like Akira Toriyama or Katsuhiro Ōtomo would had reached achievements like Gotōge is reaching now too. But better late than never

Seeing act-age rank that high is so bittersweet, I miss it so much.

PS is still in the bottom 3 which isn't surprising to me, I never got the impression over the past months that the editor was interested in promoting it.

Also I'm not enjoying the new batch, out of the 4 Witch Watch is the best but it doesn't stand out from other romcoms. Will be interesting to see which one ends up staying in the magazine

For real, the way Nak treats Phantom Seer and Roboco is completely unfair

Roboco gets a small growth from big marketing (a video starring Roboco got 2 million views, but the volume only manages to sell 2k more first week...) and puts it in 3rd place, meanwhile Phantom Seer shows strong growth with almost no marketing (only one color page that was months ago), but Nak still doesn't give it any push and puts it in the back of the TOC

The only reasoning I can see behind this is "this series succeeds without marketing, so we don't need to push it, let's put it in the back", but this reasoning is just stupid...

I think there are still a lot of people here, who wrongly assume that Jump has the same expectations for manga of different genre.

Roboco is a gag manga, so it isn't even expected to sell well. The main purpose of gag manga is to draw in readers who buy the magazine, not to sell a high amount of volumes. Plus, Roboco's core audience is almost certainly a lot younger, probably even elementary school kids or junior high school students. Thus they are a lot more likely to vote in the weekly polls and less likely to buy volumes.

This means it's going to get high places on the ToC a lot more, but the sales increases per volume are lower. Also, 2 Million views on a video about a new gag manga in Jump will probably draw in a ton of new readers for the magazine, but not necessarily people buying the volumes.

Phantom Seer on the other hand is more aimed to the audience that also reads Kimetsu no Yaiba or Jujutsu Kaisen, because they're similar in genre. So it has higher sales expectations because the genre is incredibly popular. Now, this doesn't explain the low ToC rankings. But I have the theory that Phantom Seer most likely profits from the huge interest in Kimetsu no Yaiba and Jujutsu Kaisen. Both of those series have a lot of readers that only buy the volumes and don't read the chapters weekly in the magazine.

So my guess is that a chunk of those readers are now buying Phantom Seer volumes, because it is a new Jump manga from the same genre and there's some buzz around it. But since most of them are not reading it weekly in Jump, they're not going to vote in the polls for it. Thus, it is placed on the lower end of the ToC.

Basically, you can't compare the both of them. Roboco's core audience reads the chapters weekly in Jump, increasing the overall magazine sales, while a huge part of Phantom Seer's core audience seems to only buy the volumes instead of reading it weekly.
