theres more to things than manga sales
If sales are not important, it was not to cancel samurai 8.

General sales profit and are sign popularities, even gags that do not need to have big sales, need to increase with each volume.

Current Oricon top-10 (by Manganimy):

The gap between Kimetsu and JJK has actually lowered from 11 million copies at beginning of the month to 9 million copies. I still think JJK has 0% of getting the 1st spot, but it will at least give a fight for it.

Also, 2021 JJK has already sold more than 2019 Kimetsu.
What is 'Toman' and 'WT'

I guess now that Gege's burnt enough because of overwork with covers and color pages now we need newbie mangaka to replace them, being Tozuka and Komoto the next ones in line for it and then pushing random color pages for underperforming series because why not. If we could at least have some variety this would be at least a bit funnier.

WSJ values polls and variety over pure sales, what a shock. Seriously though, Magu-chan's not going to be at risk of the axe until it starts hitting the bottom 5 regularly, sales might not be strong compared to battle shounen but they're fine for a gag manga and it has everything else going for it so far (good ToC, adding variety, potentially appealing to a younger demographic). I hold that Agravity Boys would still be going strong if it wasn't constantly at the bottom of the ToC (meaning it presumably did badly in polls).

Also Magu-chan getting the axe would probably mean continuing to get heaps of new gag manga since one successful gag manga isn't enough for jump, and do you really want that?

Anyway looks like a pretty standard ToC to me, it's not great seeing Sakamoto in 5th last but same situation as last issue, they just lost 3 bottom-dwellers so something has to go there. Yozakura technically in the top 5 is nice though it looks like Black Clover would've been higher if it wasn't suddenly absent. I'm curious to see the new Mashle cover.

Somewhat expected ToC with the exception of Black Clover absency.
Sakamoto Days is #8, so not really any trouble here.

Magu sales did not increase in relation to roboko and mashle, which in fact show some growth in sales.
In terms of sales, magu is only better than HSF. It makes no sense to protect magu chan and not give more prominence to Phantom seer.

the people buying phantom seer must not buy the magazine, only explanation to not give it any prominence.

Also I think people are just overexaggerating its sales, its not like its selling 75K+ a volume and is being ignored.

Magu isn't showing growth VoV. That's a big no no for any new series. Notice how Roboco is actually showing growth VoV?
If the new Magu Vol does not show any growth, I really don't expect it to last much longer.

The only reason Magu is not any lower is because there are series doing worse than it at the moment like Cop and Dolphin, HSF and supposedly BK.

Also, series like Witch Watch, Mashle, Sakamoto Days all satisfy the gag requirements since they are all part gag. This is aside from Roboco which WSJ seems to adore.

You completely ignore the fact that 7 veteran manga were finished last year. And they all sold more than 100K.
In the current situation, jump has to invest in series with good sales growth, and magu chan is not on that list.

I love Magu but the series has no future. Yoza isn't doing miracles either, but at least the latest volume did show some legs/backlogs, I'd give a color page to it over Magu.

Isobee didn't show growth each volume and it lasted a full 4 years because it performed well in the ToC and added variety. Also Magu's above Undead which just got the cover, sure it's not above any of the 5 main hits but often nothing is.

That's just how jump is right now, you've got the 5 long running hits usually at the top each issue (OP, MHA, Jujutsu, Dr Stone, Black Clover), the mid-tier series that also get colour pages and some of which occasionally get above Black Clover (Yozakura, Mashle, Roboco, Ayakashi, Undead, Magu-chan), the bottom dwellers (Dolphin, HSF, Phantom Seer, Build King), and a bunch of newbies who are either unranked or haven't settled yet in Sakamoto's case.

And do you think that only OP, MHA, Jujutsu, Dr Stone, Black Clover will sustain the jump?

One piece is over 5 years long, it may seem like a lot, but it is no reason not to invest in more successes.

Mha is moving towards an end, even though we don't know how long it will last.

And Black clover is not so ok, there has been a drop in sales lately.

And isobe is not an excuse to protect magu chan, if you have a series with good sales growth, you invest in it.

PS deserved a CP more than magu chan.

Isobee showed big growth between Vol 1 and Vol 2.
And Isobee was also given special treatment after they announced it will be permanently at the end of the magazine. It also ran shorter chapters.

That's a poor comparison to something like Magu which is a normal serialization.

Most of us like Magu but acting like it's surviving because of any form of popularity is absurd.

Isobee was like a 40k-50k seller. Similar situation with Hinomaru Sumo which was a consistent 30k seller. Magu is a 10k seller. Very big difference. Also being above UU in the ToC doesn’t mean anything, it’s been toward the back forever, same with Ayakashi Triangle. Honestly none of the ToC means anothing thing right now except Build King and HSF bottom dwelling being bad signs for them. And even then, ToC is decided based on sales and other metrics of performance, not the other way around.

Obviously Magu and UU are getting the CPs for March volume promotion, in UU’s case because it’s got a poll going on and they’re riding the anniversary wave and Magu in what’s probably their last attempt to save it from becoming Agravity Boys and maybe push it over the 10k line. But why are there only 2 CPs in this issue to begin with? It’s not like there’s oneshot CPs filling the space? Why can’t Yozakura have one for volume 7, or Phantom Seer just in general? At this point there’s literally no explanation for why Phantom Seer hasn’t received a color page with the kind of sales it’s had unless Matsuura just doesn’t like doing color pages or Nakano and the editorial department are just completely out of their minds.

I know volume sales isn’t the only factor that matters. But to have survey/variety privileges you’ve got to at least be doing somewhat better than axebait. I would literally donate both of my fucking kidneys for any kind of long term safety for Magu but I’m not gonna kid myself here. Around the 50 chapter mark is probably in the bag at this point given Dolphin, HSF and potentially Build King likely going before it and a nonzero chance of 1-2 series of this recent batch flopping, but if volume 3 stays stagnant again what’s justifying keeping it around besides “just because?”

One Piece issue 14 cover (for no reason) got confirmed. I expected a OP cover soon or later, since it always gets a cover in any issue 1X, but an One Piece cover for no reason over JJK or Dr.Stone anniversary cover has really surprised me (last years at least the reason of the cover was new volume).

What popularity is that?

I can see that these new editors like to lie.
