Has there ever been an axed series announced the week before? Usually we find out when the magazine leaks that this week is the final chapter. It seems odd to suddenly change up like that.
The way I interpreted the tweet is that it’s heading towards its climax, and it’s receiving extra pages to commemorate that. But it’s not ending next week

Maybe duo isnt in sync and thats the reason
That's a tangible theory. The fact is we'll never know what really happened to this series unless one of them make a big success and let it slip in a interview. Such a shame.

I'm no fan of Phantom Seer, but are we sure this isn't the end of this arc instead of the end of the series? Cause yeah this seems rather abrupt even by jump standards. Of course I could be totally wrong but yeah. Normally axed series just jump right to "The end" rather than having this sort of build up to them? For sure it's not ending in issue 18 like the tweet says I think.

Don't we have this "climax" "finale" "final arc" "ending" "final phase" discussion every single time and it is always the ending or the chapter before the ending.

If they were gonna axe the series I wish they would give it a few chapters to wrap it up. It's odd this didn't come up during ToC since that usually announces when a series ends

Should also be kept in mind that we never truly know why any series ever ends.

“axe” or “cancellation” is never officially used by Jump. The fandom refers to a series ending early as an axe, but Jump will only ever say a series is “ending”.

We only have the example with Toriyama(well maybe there’s more, but Toriyama is the only one I know of), but a manga artist can just request an early ending to a series themselves if they want.

iirc there was even that interview where an editor claimed that some series are serialized with the intention of them being short(don’t quote me on this. Idr if that was exactly what was said, but if someone else remembers the interview please correct me if I’m wrong).

But point is, Jump is pretty secretive about their whole behind the scenes process. If an axe doesn’t make sense to us we should keep in mind that while it may be a genuine cancellation, there could also be a dozen other things going on behind the scenes that we’ll never know about

Yeah the whole situation strikes me as odd, why would they have an editor note announcing the climax and promotional extra pages if it was just getting axed? And the week after boasting about high circulation too. It's weird to give it a bit of promotion after so much time of having none right as it's getting cancelled. Does the author comment mention anything?

I think it's best to wait until next issue to see what the deal is, I don't trust yet that it's just ending next week and that's it.

The tweet says it’s unofficial Jump account “entering its Final phase”, not that it’s ending in a week.
Since that account is run from someone that’s pretty knowledgeable on Jump stuff, I find them generally a little more trustworthy then random tweeter accounts.

The Snkynews tweet was probably just a mistranslation. It’s probably not ending next week. But it’ll probably end within the next couple of months

Not that weird. It has a bit of a fanbase at the very least. Series like Higuma were given an extra chapter in Jump+ despite presumably being axed.
Even if axed, we’ve seen some axed series given more respect than others due to them having a bit of a fanbase

I don't see that as likely, unless there are just not enough chapters at this point to fill a volume.

I agree with all of this. I haven't followed Jump artists too much on Twitter and the like but the Sunday ones I follow are pretty open about how the serialization process works and how sometimes they'll even be the ones to request a series end even if it has the potential to be big. From burnout, to illness there are various reasons as to why a series may end prematurely that have nothing to do with poor reception. Unless the artists themselves come out and explain what happens we'll never really know. I've seen it happen a few times in Sunday at least where the artist will flat out say "I thought it was in the best interest of the series to end it here." and such. It is unfortunate (or not based on one's perspective) that editors get a lot of the blame for when a good series goes bad or ends but they're only a part of the equation. Maybe the PS team thought they hit a wall or something. I remember hearing that a series will be at the bottom of the TOC if the manuscripts are late (don't quote me on that) so it might be a sign they were struggling to deliver the product? In any case we'll never really know.

That's the thing, we've seen series get epilogues elsewhere to fill up a volume or as a reward for having some minor popularity before, but celebrating a series getting cancelled with a 'climax' announcement and bonus pages in the magazine itself is very strange. That would be a weird thing to do to a series they've forced to end. I feel like there has to be something else going on here.

We better be getting some solid hits after the horrendous last batch, the veteran mangas have been very weak, there hasn't been a big hiit since Mashle so come on this has to be it

both Sakamoto Days and Elusive Samurai are showing early signs of being hits. Nothing is confirmed until we get solid volume sales figures; but both seem to be doing well as of now.

Just give me a KemonJihen, BLue Exorcist, or Owari no Serafu clone in Shonen Jump, it will easily be a success, we love those manga.

Phantom Seer could have been a hit if it took hints from Twin Star Exorcist and actually made the sister and Kenma play a larger role and got rid of Aibetsu.

Also hope we get soccer as a replacement.

Colleague stop.

This is ridiculous, many here agree that the cancellation of Phantom seer was unfair.

There is no logical reason to keep magu chan and cancel phantom seer.

Disagree. Magu-chan adds diversity and uniqueness to the magazine catering to fans of a genre that aren't served by other series. Its comedy mixed with lighthearted drama is a breath of fresh air that other series lack.

A reader of Phantom Seer is already being catered too by many other serious action series in the magazine, a Magu-chan reader has what else to read...nothing.
