Still, I’m not sure what’s making it very popular in Japan and have high placements in the TOC
The historic setting and aspects probably make for the difference in how the series is received in the western fandom compared to the Japanese audience.
(Though ofc we should wait for the volume sales before jazzing up Elusive Samurai too much.)

If the volume does well that means Yusei Matsui will be the only person in WSJ history to have a hit 3 decades in a row right? Could be wrong. Togashi shouldn't count cause (idk if level E was a short story hit or something lol) his 3 manga all released in the same decade.

Aside from launching the currently running Blue Box, Witch Watch and Burn the Witch (he was an editor of Bleach in the past), Murakoshi launched Phantom Seer, Guardian of the Witch, Tokyo Shinobi Squad, Yui Kamio, I'm From Japan, Act-Age, Full Drive, Ole Golazo and Samon the Summoner.

So yeah, aside from Act-Age and Burn the Witch, not the most successful catalogue. So far at least, Witch Watch and especially Blue Box do have potential after all :D
*siiiiiiggghhhhhh* Welp, that doesn’t leave me with a lot of confidence looking at that kind of portfolio. Although, I beg to differ on Witch Watch. The premise alone was interesting enough, but the series lost me after a few chapters. Blue Box hit the ground running from the get-go, it’s on him and Miura to keep up the momentum.

You could argue that having so many fails in his resume is actually a good thing, but that’s only if he truly has learned his lessons.

Masanori Morita was responsible for Rokudenashi Blues (1988), Rookies (1998), and Beshari Kushari (2005), although that last series was ultimately transferred to Young Jump after a year.

Also, if you count short serializations, Akira Toriyama had popular short series in both the 90s and 10s. Probably nothing as popular as Level E, though.

Some other authors that came close were:
Yabuki, with Black Cat (2000), To Love-Ru (2006) and Ayakashi Triangle (2020), if you want to count Ayakashi Triangle as a hit;
Ohba/Obata with Hikaru no Go (1998), Death Note (2003), and Bakuman (2008);
Katsura with Wing-Man (1983), Video Girl Ai (1989) DNA^2 (1993) and I"s (1997);
Kurumada with Ring ni Kakero (1977), Fuuma no Kojiro (1982), and Saint Seiya (1986), if you want to count Fuuma no Kojiro as a hit.

Yeah I don't count short stories. The others are note quite each decade but like you said they where close. Thats a pretty neat achievement for matsui don't you guys think?

beside what's already mentioned
Inagaki did Eyeshield 21 (2002) Dr Stone (2017) and Trillion Game (2020) albeit in Big Comic Superior not WSJ

Ohba/Obata with Hikaru no Go (1998), Death Note (2003), and Bakuman (2008);
Hikaru no Go is by Yumi Hotta not Tsugumi Ohba

Unusually high placement for Undead, not that I'm complaining. Not a good sign for i tell c or Kowloon, looking like the vets are the only series in their batch with a shot, which is a shame because I enjoy i tell c and Kowloon more (though I enjoy all of them).

Kind of a very usual, but also odd ToC. Yozakura and Undead swapped places (hoping this low ranking for Yozakura is just temporary; Undead definitely deserves to be this high up, though), and Kowloon dropped to dead last seemingly out of nowhere, but. I guess one week of rankings doesn't show anything overall unless it forms a pattern.
