Darn will we have to go back to the draft :(

Still cheering Nine Dragon's Ball Parade on. Maybe it will have favor with the editors and they will like what they see of preorders to let it get a chance to grow and expand an audience.

Well, press F for Kowloon.

Since romance is already covered, I hope next batch is focused to spokon

Apart from Ayakashi Triangle and High School Family, I think that this issue's Table of Contents is honestly a pretty good representation of the state of magazine, if you seperate the positions into different blocks: Established series, Surviving series, Lucky series, and Axebait.

What else has is comedy, no need to get clogged the comedy magazine
comedy and sports makes a great combo, with how well comedy is doing in jump, I think getting a sports series with lots of comedy in it will give it really strong chances to last, Magu-chan, Yozakura, and Mashle are thriving because of their heavy use of comedy.

Where are comedies doing well in jump?

Only Mashle and yozakura are doing well, the rest are just disappointing.

Really... "how well comedy is doing in jump"? Magu-chan thriving? In what world are you living? You sound quite delusional when you defend the current gag manga in the magazine.

Except Mashle (that now is 80% action 20% comedy) none of the gag or comedy manga on Jump's roster are thriving by any means. Yozakura is probably the "best seller" (now) and its sales number are still mediocre. Magu-chan, Roboco, Cop and Dolphin and High School Family are going to be dead by the end of this year (if not sooner...).

phantom seer proved that rankings trumps sales.

thus, all of those series are thriving, surviving, and outlasting their contemporaries. None of them look like they are close to coming to an end and should sail to their one year or two year anniversaries. High School Family has especially risen to prominence. People have been saying it would get cancelled for so many batches now.

And then you're going to put the psychic Phantom into the conversation.
What happened to phantom seer does not change the poor performance of comedy manga that you try so hard to defend.

I'm still waiting for the improvement of shakunetsu that you promised me, only until now his performance only worsens. It's selling less than the build king that was canceled.

This charity on top of HSF is just Is jump forcing the Japanese to read a manga that sold only 2K.
It was like that with Mitama as well, and it did not survive long.

Yeah, sales obviously don't matter because we all know Shueisha is a non-profit association, they just invest in artists and new manga for the sake of art (irony). Shueisha is after all a business and its primary goal is to make lots of money... so sales matter a lot (magazine sales, volume sales, anime tv rights, merchandising, etc.).

There are several reasons that we don't fully know about why PS got axed, getting conclusion about it of "ToC matters more than sales" is too simple imo.

High School Family being on the middle positions this last weeks is probably not about it being just popular, but for example an editorial decision: it's a short-chapters gag manga that probably fits well in the middle of the magazine in order to create a nice flow through the content having in consideration the experience of reading the magazine from the beginning to the end.

And I repeat: Magu-chan, Roboco, Cop and Dolphin and High School Family will be dead by the end of the year (or sooner) if they keep the sales numbers they are currently getting.

Argh, Nine Dragons' Ball Parade all the way at 15th... I prepared myself since the beginning so I'm not exactly disappointed, but it's still disheartening since I do think it's the best of its batch. At least I tell c hasn't magically recovered. Otherwise I'm glad to see Undead Unluck breaking the top 5 for the first time in (I believe) nineteen issues which it so deserves. High School Family also taking the 'high' gag spot of the week.

I do think the gag manga around the same age (Magu-chan, Me & Roboco, High School Family) are getting fairer placement rotations as of late. M&R still performing the best overall but recently we've had them jump around quite a bit with HSF getting favourable spots more often:
  • #12 - Me & Roboco (3rd)
  • #13 - Magu-chan (6th)
  • #14 - Me & Roboco (6th)
  • #15 - Me & Roboco (5th)
  • #16 - High School Family (5th)
  • #17 - Magu-chan (4th)
  • #18 - Me & Roboco (6th)
  • #19 - High School Family (8th)
  • #20 - High School Family (6th)
Meanwhile while one does well that week there's usually another in the bottom of the magazine, while another is either middling or has a colour page. Feels like a trend at this point.

And I repeat: Magu-chan, Roboco, Cop and Dolphin and High School Family will be dead by the end of the year (or sooner) if they keep the sales numbers they are currently getting.
Definitely agree on everything except unless we've got multiple new hits ahead with the remaining newcomers for the rest of 2021 there's little chance Me & Roboco is ending this year. The rest are very likely at this point, but M&R at least has the best sales for a gag manga and even though it ranked 10th (tied for the lowest it's ever been) its usually around 5th-6th spot where it's been the past month. Until they find a more successful gag manga to replace it I don't think it's in any serious danger anytime soon, especially with two from the previous batch already buffering the rest at dead last.

That being said I wouldn't be surprised if its overall placement does drop a bit compared to how high its been up until now (its yearly average is still 8th place, below the veterans and The Elusive Samurai and Mashle).

MASHLE has CP too this week.

I'm happy about UU's rank, but what the hay happened to Balls Parade? Last place? Already? Did the Japanese Audience find it this boring that its reviews tanked? Damn, this is harsh.

From what I understand, Ryou Nakama has some kind of formal agreement that grants him essentially protection from editors. That's why High-School Family is able to do whatever it wants in spite of lacking sales or positive reception.

Very weird ToC, UU higher than usual while Yozakura lower than usual, not to mention Kokosei again jumping too high, about Kowloon's, still not going to doom the series yet, Yozakura, Kokosei, Magu, C&D, also Agravity (that survived 50ch) got last place too and still here, if keep stuck there that will be the end, but have yet to read any sort of hate towards this series that would explain this drop, is quite well received online but AB and PS were too, so who knows.

Excited to see Taiyo in thhe group cover next week

What did he find their sex tape or something?

He has a affair with Nakano, this is why we got so much gag series, it was all in order to make readers get used to it and so Ryou staying doesn't look so weird...

I effing knew Kowloon would drop all the way to the bottom. The Sayuuki vibes are just too strong with this one. Sadly.

Not surprised at Ball Parade, a sports series with no sports is hard to imagine doing well.

Not that sports full of sports do especially well in wsj in the past few years.
