To put a little more of context in the oneshot round:

#21/22 Peko Peko no Yamai by Watanabe Shinpei
#23 Dai Tokyo Oniyome-den by Nakama Tadaichi (Tokyo Grind Horror Channel)
#24 NoONEKnows by Kataoka Motoharu
#25 BadTripper by Yu Odoriba (MY LITTLE MARS)
#26 Roku to Yuki by Midorimizu Tou (MONSTERS)
You know i did not hear good things in regards to Midorimizu Tori`s One shot "Monster. " So am kinda worried just a little bit in that regard.

Viz isn't really catering to people like us that follow Japanese news and stuff but the more mainstream audience that may pick up a series that looks fun because they saw it on the bookshelf. Using English names helps a lot there. We do have stuff with their Japanese names though. Jujutsu Kaisen was left as is, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is the full title, Viz kept "Kaiju No. 8" while Manga+ changed it to "Monster No. 8", etc.
I know it just feels like from recent memory they haven't kept the Japanese names since Junutsu Kaisen. I'm getting worried that some of the Japanese titles will be abandoned completely but it is what it is I guess.

English centric pov? I dont ever hear ESL people express similar sentiments, actually I see them glad manga is coming to their country, brazil people especially get hyped.

I think its better when titles are translated. When people talk about series in person barely anyone pronounces japanese titles let alone names correctly so it makes it easier for non jpn learners.

Example the amount of mispronunciations from fans who read kingdom...
About the bolded part. Actually it's worse here and this is why I left most of the forums. There are titles in japanese, portuguese and.... in english (because Viz wants so) and the people argue about them 😂

Just a piece of info since this is off topic.

This. I think it has to do with how catchy a name sounds, or how easily it roles of the tongue.
They want names that flow together well, and are easy to remember for a casual western audience.
Jujutsu Kaisen, and Yu Yu Hakusho are easy to remember, and said out loud have a nice flow.
Where as something like Shingeki No Kyojin, or Shokugeki No Soma isn’t gonna be something your casual anime watcher is going to remember, and will probably prefer a translation.

On top of that, sometimes it’s better for an eye grabbing title. Demon Slayer immediately tells the dude in Barnes & Noble what the series is about. But that same dude probably has no idea what Kimetsu No Yaiba means, and may pay it no mind
Yu Yu Hakusho English title Ghost Files/Poltergeist Report does sounds cool but in retrospect they made a good decision not doing it with the manga ditching the Spirit Detective early on

Imagine if Candy Flurry is the one that makes it over darling Blue Box :teehee

In all seriousness, I’m pretty stoked for CF. Been hoping for an over the top premise battle series like Kill la Kill. Like it was said, Ryoko was the first thing that came to mind upon hearing this and hardly anything of the sort gets serialized in the mag. It will either come out swinging as the best thing ever or be an absolute train wreck

-on air on tv channels
-OP/ED singers appearing at cons
-costumes/merch in regular stores

etc

I didn't get around to posting my comments last time, so here's a double dose covering the last two issues.

Issue #18

Ball Parade: That was love at first sight from both sides. And the big stoic guy has found his place: he’s the parent of the group. I’m okay with this.

As much as I like the story though, I have to admit the beginning of Haikyu was more engaging, especially with their duo move. Not sure how they could do something like that in this story…

WW: That was incredibly lame, until after the twist when it got kind of decent. It’s very early to meet the big bad though, so either this is gonna be a very drawn-out rivalry, or it’s a fake-out.

TES: The story is okay, but I’m not invested in any of the characters and that is a problem.

I tell c: Seriously? What was the point of that entire intro? This could have worked as a first or second chapter, but now it just feels like a waste of time. You didn’t need to kill off 20 people just to get them transferred to a new division that does basically the same thing anyway.

Build King: 7 more pages for the encyclopaedia, and (4 chapters after being captured) Renga finally decided to stop damseling – and of course he’s a chosen one too. I wonder if they’ll try and manage to wrap things up next week.

OP: Progress! That was the first chapter in a long while that really had me invested. I hope we’ll be moving a bit faster now, because this arc has been incredibly long as is.

Dr Stone: What the actual hell..? This keeps getting more and more out of hand. For a second, I thought the series was over.

BC: Good transitional chapter.

Yozakura: I was not expecting them. So, one more special chapter for the youngest and then the final fight? Sounds good.

Mashle: That’s left, Mash. I hope this guy becomes important later, but for now it felt kinda pointless. And I really don’t like that Macaron.

C&D: His short serious stories are the best.

AT: This felt like a weird cross between an educational kids' program (“You should be nice to your friends!”) and Playboy magazine. I don’t care much for the new guys, but Suzu’s origami powers are nice.

Sakamoto: That was pretty good. The bird was surprisingly useful and some of the jokes worked really well. I hope we’ll get another strategy-shooting competition later, that would be fun.

UU: Yeah, I figured we’d see them again. Can’t waste a good flashback. And Shen is off to become Goku, apparently (though he’s a bit more honest about his priorities).

PS: Well, they made a decent effort to wrap things up and provide some closure, even tying the character development back to the beginning. I’m glad. I’m still going to miss this series though, it was one of my favourites.

Issue #19

Blue Box: Marry?! Dude, way to jump the gun. Good thing his friend is there to talk him down. I liked that conversation.

Oh no, another girl. Please don’t be in love with him, I really don’t want a harem from the first minute… Ah, looks like it’s cool. Phew. And the boy is actually not bad at connecting with his crush, if a bit impulsive.

Ahaha! Okay, that twist at the end totally had me. (Why do parents in these kinds of manga never properly talk to their children..?) Not a bad start, I just hope they’ll be avoiding the usual clichés so this doesn’t become another Witch Watch.

Ball Parade: Nice! The new kid is half annoying and half awesome, but in a way that makes you want to see him grow. The others are all settling into their roles too. The only thing I could do without was the weird dude at the end.

WW: Props for working together, I guess, but their childish rivalry already annoys me.

TES: Decent chapter. The new character is interesting.

Dr Stone: That chapter was very fast and exciting… but I can’t help but wonder, why make everything so complicated? Put it at the top of the * and wait for * to happen? Why not just pour that stuff on a rag and let it drip out on top on Senku? The only reason I can think of to do this is if they want to age up Suika in relation to the other characters, because it will probably take her a few years before she can wake up anyone.

OP: Another good chapter. It’s really so much easier to get engaged when the story doesn’t jump all over the place.

Sakamoto: I really liked the argument in this, you can easily sympathise with both sides. (They did a bit too much effort to rub it in IMO, but I guess they wanted to make it clear for the kids.) I don’t expect we’ll be going too deep into Shin’s past straight away, but it’s a fun thing to look forward too.

Yozakura: That felt a little bit forced, but it still worked well enough for me.

BC: Was that a reference?

Build King: One move (Bleach did it better), and Renga is right back to being useless. If he was meant to be an impressive character, it sure didn’t come across. And of course we get more exposition… though I guess they did manage to build up to the volume-only ending reasonably well, all things considered.

UU: I did not see that coming. I mean, I got who the guy was, but the rest of it.

C&D: Why did this only get good now?

I tell c: It’s not a great sign when the writer himself acknowledges he has been wasting our time.
