Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

hard to justify unless Jesus Burgess >>Katakuri i guess... But Luffy can use advanced versions of all 3 haki now

I just watch some scene of the anime from the dressrosa arc and i just remember back then i really really like Kyros and really think that he is one of the strongest in that arc, and that is when he already only have one leg..
And i also remember in the reverie arc when coby arrive to guide the dressrosa kingdom to the reverie when he first meet Kyros he immediately know that Kyros is strong.. And coby are supposed to have meet many strong people..
My question is.. How strong is Kyros compared to other character? Is he atleast stronger or maybe on par with those scabbard? And remember nobody ever think that kinemon is strong not like when people meet Kyros..

Sabo is at worst YC2 lvl. An should realistically be operating under Marco by now. He was already a number 2 on the seas with just his Haki control and abilities. Now he’s mastered his broken DF on top of that. Believe when we finally see how Sabo got countered it involves the fact all 3 admirals were present on site.

i was being generous, that worse case mihawk is probably slightly below low yonko tier if zoro is currently capable of harming kaido and blocking yonko attacks to a certain level. which is high~ YC1 tier which, he's atleast shown feats that puts him atleast in this tier i believe. He's also fighting mihawk probably sometime in the next 2 arcs before laughtale, so.... mihawk should be atleast stronger then zoro in his current state as zoro will have to grow that final step during the fight to ultiamtely defeat mihawk. That it means mihawk is at the very least below or at low yonko tier. I personally do not believe it would make sense for mihawk to solo a yonko. Unless old whitebeard is alot stronger then the other yonko. Otherwise i think marineford, which i do think was one sided should of been even more one sided. At the same time i don't see zoro being yonko tier until at least laughtale arc and after he's defeated mihawk. Which all seems to point to mihawk being somewhere between high yc1 and low yonko tier

this would be my tier list

tier 0 the gods of the verse: roger, prime garp, rocks

tier 1; the yonko, akainu

tier 1.5: luffy, marco, the other 2 orginal admirals, ben beckman, mihawk

tier 2: zoro, new admirals, other YC1, law, kid,

tier 3: YC2, probably alot of the non fodder warlords, the rest of the supernova.

tier 4: YC3, the strong vice admirals, crocodile, moria

i do think from a storywise crocodile has to be YC3 tier and that luffy really had no business really defeating him right away, but hey whatever

shanks when he fought against mihawk, was probably YC1 tbh. Like i do think it's a plot hole for shanks to lose his arm then become a yonko, but apprantly 1 armed shanks is stronger then 2 armed shanks, for plot reasons. Maybe thats why mihawk doesn't want to fight against 1 armed shanks.

but like current shanks probably beats mihawk based on world logic.

Good Tier list.
The thing with Mihawk is people overrate him because of 2 things. One, he is supposed to be Zolo's EOS fight and by that logic Mihawk CANNOT be weaker than a YC1, since Zolo is close to YC1 or already is. So Mihawk MUST be Yonko level or above. That is a simple stupid fact the whole fandom abide by. We don't know if Mihawk truly is Zolo's last fight.
Another thing, he is the Worlds Strongest Swordman, by that logic anyone who wields a sword like weapon is by definition weaker than him. This includes Shanks, Big Mom and some even say WB because WB's bisento (not sword) is a bladed weapon, one of the 12 supreme grade blades. But I disagree, not with Oda, but I have a different interpretation of what WSM means.

How I see it, WSM only applies to those who wield a sword AND practice/use swordsmanship techniques. This doesnt only apply to cutting or slashing. It means that Swordsmanship is their main attribute, their main attack, they are define by a sword, which means they do not necessarily use other techniques, they depend on their swordsmanship skills to win a battle.

There is a difference between using a sword in combat and real swordsmanship, if not then almost everyone in OP is considered a swordsman, because that is the primary weapon or most used weapon in OP.
Ex: Zolo, he is obviously a swordsman. Another is Oden, Mihawk, Hachi, Hyozo, Cavendish, Vista, Kyros, Brook, Shiryu, Samurai from Wano.

People who use swords in combat but not actual swordsmen, this is due to either having martial arts techniques or devil fruit powers
Ex: Big Mom, Cracker, Moria, Kizaru, Pica, Jack, Law, Hawkins, Fujitora, Buggy, Pedro

Is like saying I can throw a punch or kick but that doesnt make me a Boxer or Karate person.

the power scaling around swordsmen is slightly weird aswell. power creep has to exist but because the yonko and mihawk were introduced so early in the series it made it hard for oda to scale his charatchers well. Oden is probably atleast on par if not stronger then kaido at the time of there fight, which means current mihawk is stronger then that kaido, and people are power scaling off that kaido. But that was 20 years ago, and i agree shanks 6 years ago and kaido 20 years ago is weaker then current mihawk. Zoro scarring current kaido who at the very least should be stronger then young kaido means current zoro is stronger then oden at the time of his death.

so because of these factors it's really hard to accurately scale the swordsman, because mihawk is logically stronger then some yonko if you scale the past as the present. Mihawk probably has the potenial to be on par as a yonko or even stronger then them, but because he lost his rival he lost his reason to get stronger. As such he's stuck in this weird limbo of logically weaker then the yonko. But possibly atleast on the low end of there level.

Mihawk most likely is not anywhere near as strong an emperor. I don't think that's ever been hinted at or mentioned at all.

Not really we have no idea if mihawk is as poweful as oden was at the time or when he emerged as the strongest swordsman in the world
Seriously doubt mihawk at that time was as poweful as oden was at the time

man OG admirals are pretty underrated

Hmm, Mihawk used to fight Shanks with swords, and holds the title of strongest swordsman

The problem is that Mihawk and Shanks have appeared like what, 10 panels combined for the past 900 chapters? So it's open to speculation

Mihawk has to be able to challenge the Emperors if he's the strongest swordsman, otherwise his title is just for show.
So, if, say, Shanks and Mihawk were to fight with swords only, Mihawk would likely emerge victorious. This doesn't mean that Mihawk can beat Shanks though, since the latter may have Haki that would allow him to overpower a better swordsman in other fields.
For example, Kaido is the strongest fighter when it comes to physique, so he's bound to beat anyone in a challenge of raw power, but he can be beaten if one is more agile, faster, has better Haki, or a very powerful Devil Fruit.

Zoro is already nearly as strong as an Emperor, let alone Mihawk.

So Shanks is the world's strongest swordsman, good to know.

Zoro getting Advanced CoC ended this possiblity, unless you think Zoro is not going to use it in his duel with Mihawk.

Fun fact VSBW now rates Mihawk as 50,000 times as strong as Katakuri. Does anyone here agree with them ?

Well, it's likely Mihawk has advanced Conqueror's, but that doesn't mean his is better than Shanks', for example. And he may fall behind in other types of Haki.
There are many possibilities.

I highly doubt Shanks has better CoA than the man with a black blade or better COO than a guy called Hawkeye.

The chances of Shanks being stronger than Mihawk became 0 the moment Zoro got AdCoC, since that was the only possible thing putting Shanks above Mihawk.

Sure, you're right - Mihawk likely has stronger Armament and Observation, but I believe the difference is marginal. Shanks has been portrayed as a master of Conqueror's Haki, so that's where he probably exceeds the strongest swordsman. Either way, the difference in their strengths is minimal.
