Didn't read everything yesterday mainly due to time, but if I'm honest I thought this issue was a bit hit and miss. Some really top notch chapters and some... not.
Great:
1. ( = )
Jujutsu Kaisen - Incredible stuff. I can see this certain character breaking the top 3 in the new popularity poll after this. The two pages of unfinished are a bummer but doesn't detract from how well choreographed the entire fight.
2. ( - )
One Piece - What a fantastic chapter! We got potentially three characters deaths in the second half of the chapter, so I'd reason
at least one of them is surviving. All really impactful stuff likely to climax Act 3 in the coming weeks.
3. ( = )
Blue Box - That double page spread was so peaceful and exactly what I needed. Seems like we're getting more hints at a mutual interest in each other as well. All good stuff. Hope the balance of sports and romance continues as it has been for the past 2-3 chapters.
4. (+2)
My Hero Academia - Really loved the flashback we got this week, nice insight into behind the scenes of the hero world and how horrible actions were committed to keep a good face to the rest of society. Back in the present the action is just as fantastic as I'd expect.
5. (-3)
Undead Unluck - Nice popularity poll results, Gina seems a bit high but otherwise I can't complain. Chapter itself was just as epic as what's come before, glad that Mui got the spotlight she deserves. What a fantastic arc we've had with e focus on her and Shen and this villain who I imagine will be a goner very soon.
Good:
6. (+1)
Me & Roboco - Another enjoyable Motsuo chapter - his are always really sweet to read. Not the funniest, I'll admit, but I appreciated the Death Note references and that lovely ending. The friendship between the three main boys is one of the highlights of the entire series.
7. (-2)
Dr. Stone - Another very enjoyable chapter that has me curious how the plot revelation is going to shake up future clashes and dynamics. Still a bit concerned about how willing they are to revive those who literally nearly got them all wiped out last arc but... I've just come to accept it now. I expect we'll be in for about half a dozen chapters of full-on science mumbo-jumbo from now on so I'm preparing myself to emotionally check out until some exciting developments in the story continue.
8. (-4)
Black Clover - Now that one of the best fights of the series is wrapped up, I'm feeling content. We're returning back to the Black Clover standard of battle again which is still fine. Enjoyed the artwork this week especially.
9. (-1)
Sakamoto Days - Not as exciting as recent weeks but I'm glad we've got this villain out the way (I thought we did last week) as they weren't doing it for me. Still nice action as well, excited to see what's next.
Fine:-
10. ( = )
Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - Feels like its wrapping up nicely. I think three chapters will be more than enough to come to a satisfying conclusion.
11. ( = )
High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku - Gomez chapter! Not the funniest but I welcome the variety in gags.
12. (-3)
Mashle - Yeah, this baby gag did
not do it for me. Felt like a filler chapter caught in between two pivotal and highly important moments.
13. (+1)
Nine Dragons' Ball Parade - I'm seeing glimmers of hope again now that we're finally entering high school with the cast, but at the same time I've already accepted the fate of the series. And god, these villains are cringeworthy and ruin the series every time they appear. I hope they weren't planned even if this was going to last longer because they would have put me off eventually.
14. (-1)
WITCH WATCH - Pretty standard and not the funniest chapter - again, I'm finding the panelling doesn't actually lend itself to the gags being told which is weird considering how seasoned an author this is from.
15. (-3)
The Elusive Samurai - Perfectly fine, I'm liking the new character introduced.
16. (-1)
Mission: Yozakura Family - Enjoyed some of the double spreads but again found some of the artwork messy.. At least this fight seems to be over so hopefully the pace continues as it is now.
Bad:
17. ( = )
Candy Flurry - One cliched character after another. Very poor start to an exam start, I'd say Build King at least started off stronger with its first chapter for that development. But also, how come there are so many people taking the exam when I thought only 100 people were users of the candy powers and they were already part of the organisation? I'm so confused by the world building here.
18. (-3)
Magu-chan: God of Destruction - Unfortunately didn't get any laughs or endearing moments from it this week.
19. (-1)
Ayakashi Triangle - Heatwave, but make it horny.
20. (-1)
I tell c - Just as ridiculous as ever. The explanation for the plan all along undercuts whatever (none) tension we had until now.
6. One Piece: Apparently, the war is over and lost. It's been quite a while since last time I felt that the situation was so desperate in One Piece. But isn't it time to resolve the arc instead of complicating it even more? Unless defeat is really the path that Oda wants to take (at this point of the story, though...)
Wano arc isn't wrapping up any time soon it seems - a popular theory is that there will be 5 'Acts' to Wano similar to the structure of a kabuki play, with Act 3 (what we're in now) being the longest and ending in tragedy. Things will probably continue to look bleak for a while before eventual victory (maybe a year from now).
