2 more weeks for elusive samurai to get to 100k. then for v2 to see if it meets or exceeds which would suggest people didnt just buy v1 for the sake of being an assclass fan and showing support.

And with that Phantom Seer says goodbye, last time it appears in the Weekly Shoseki, despite being "canceled" it ended in a high note, outselling all the other volumes, something really rare for axed series, looking forward for the duo return.

Technically is already part since vol 8 that reached 41k before dropping out, but this one cemented.

All time worst? From what I've read, Takamagahara. It's, to this day, the series that felt the most amauterish in the sense of "how is this ready for publication in a mainstream magazine?". U19 is a good contender, but unfortunately I really enjoyed the premise, so I kind of want to give it some leeway. SWOT was an absolute mess. Metallica Metaluca was so incredibly generic that it's impressive.

I guess there's more, but those are the first that came to mind.

Ghost Writer is probably the worst handled one I've read, but it was at least so bad that it was entertaining.

I remember Hi-fi Cluster being incredibly dull from start to finish.

were many people even reading jump before 2011? I dont think I got into it until like 2012 or so. Cant have a baseline if one wasn't following before then. I think I did read some soccer manga, was it, that was before then, that only had like a volume.

oddly i dont even see many people in this here thread who was even on this site prior to 2011.

I started in 2009, got a little out of it around 2013 (but i still started some stuff here and there, i read the whole 6-series round in 2017, for instance), until I got back to it in full force in 2019 when mangaplus became a thing

What reason is there to go back and read old axed manga? Unless you're specifically an axed manga enthusiast or it's a series by some who has a big hit, there's not much point in checking out something dead from 10 years ago even if it has full translations.

There's also the problem that the further back you go, the less likely flops are to have full translations, so you can't really go back to read many out of curiosity (and many are probably hard to find even in Japan).

I still have PTSD from the Judos, Hi Fi Cluster and Sporting Salt batch. My word, one of the most atrocious serialization rounds I have ever witnessed come into the mag. Sporting Salt in particular was complete amateur hour

I went back to look out of curiosity and translations of quickly axed jump manga seem to suddenly stop when you hit mid-2006.

2009, 08, and 07's early cancellations mostly have full translations, as do the last couple series of 2006, but for whatever reason Mx0 and To Love Ru are like a dividing line with full translations of any quick axes before that batch being rare.

Even if they were it was probably the big stuff not axed stuff. Viz's digital magazine started in 2012 (and of course they didn't pick up everything until they switched formats in 2018 so it was still limited in terms of reading axed stuff) The print magazine ran for a decade before that but looking at the series list it was all successful stuff so even if people read that they wouldn't have run into many axed series. Hard to know exactly what was scanned prior to that without looking up every series but I have my doubts many axed series prior to 2011 were fan scanned.

What reason is there to go back and read old axed manga?
I've quite liked some axed series I've read both while they were ongoing and after they ended (Love Rush, Pajama na Kanojo, Koisome Momiji, etc). Some series work out so they just end up as nice little short stories. You may also want to see what now famous Horikoshi's flops were like as well.

Worst cancelled manga I finished: I tell c (probably the worst series I've read from the magazine in the past 10 or so years). Runner-up would be Zan.
Worst cancelled manga I dropped: SWOT (so probably the overall worst), with Iron Knight as a runner-up.

There are plenty of cancelled series that I haven't properly tried that might end up lower if I did go back and read them.

On a more positive note, Cross Manage and MAGICO would be my favourite cancelled series. Can't think of any super early cancellation that ended up all that satisfying on balance.

I think Love Rush actually ended alright as far as really early cancellations go, if nothing else it managed to pull off fairly satisfying and complete romance arc with one of the girls. The other characters not so much, but the one girl had a good story with the MC.
