The fact that Magu managed to penetrate the merch market before any sort of anime is still noteworthy (it's like if the Pochita UFO plushes came out in late 2019). Merch is a very lucrative ancillary market in of itself. You seem to be dead set on the idea that the only way a manga can make "muh profit" is tankobon sales but the reality is that the merch market is a vast ocean of moneymaking opportunities. That a little backpack plush retailing for around 20 dollars (US) even sold out at all indicated to Shueisha that there is an avenue that Magu can exploit.
Another example for how much profitable merch is for WSJ would be World Trigger, albeit probably in different scale than Magu-chan. During its two years hiatus where no new volumes came out, obviously, WT still made a lot of money selling merchandise. WT shoes, Osamu glasses, Sniper Wormbags as raincoats besides the usual posters, plushies and buttons sold very well and often even out. WT characters were still used in events during the hiatus like for a WT cafe event, fashions like swimsuits, cool clothes or taste-testing sweets.
If Magu-chan already has its own merch niche in the merch market and sells consistently then it makes sense for WSJ to want to keep it in its ranks. Might even be an explanation as for why the so far "main villain" was turned into his plush form as punishment - new merchandise opportunities. xD

WT already had a good fanbade before the hiatus, besides that the manga always had a good repercussion, there's no way to compare. It was a bad example.

It's about merch being profitable, not about both mangas being "low fanbase", I even said the scale is different for both.
Geez, Stivie, learn to read properly before quoting.

And you james have to stop using any arguments just to defend magu chan. Even WT got into this discussion.

Then they complain that I'm the one who starts the matter.

Dude, this is the first time ever I "defend" Magu-chan. I hardly ever talk about it in here, you and others do that enough on a weekly basis. And I didn't said it to defend anything but to highlight what BX brought up with the merch market being a profitable business even if you sell low or in case of hiatus zero new volumes. For example the profit margin is larger with buttons than it is with manga volumes because you can stamp buttons with chibi characters on it for a couple cent and still sell for a whole dollar or more in case of "rare ones" whereas volumes cost more in production and transportation and storage simply cause they are bigger, heavier and made of different material than buttons.
Why you think WSJ Twitter announces that this or that series will receive a limited button bonus for "rave popularity"? It ain't just to advertise the series but to check the merch market if there is a reaction to it or not and if it is profitable for them as a company to keep producing those kind of goods if they sell well and quickly.

WSJ Twitter only announces that a series has a lot of "rave popularity" to draw the series' attention, but that doesn't mean that the series is popular or that it has good sales, as has been mentioned several times.
And about toy sales, magu chan should only have that if it's true, it's not bringing in any new readers, just like the person here said that phantom seer volume sales weren't bringing in new readers.

It would be a disservice to the forums credibility and respect if you let flagrant and blatant conspiracy theories go unaddressed. I will not stand for fictional twists of reality to be given the light of day and neither should you!
Don't worry, you've done more than enough to discredit this forum with your hyperbolic and baity posts every week, to the point that the thread has lost the moderator that kept things in check and varied discussion alive, and now we're moderator-less for 5 months resulting in far less comments compared to last year, but now we've just got the same absolute nonsense arguments instead.

Here's a non-fictional twist of reality for this Magu-chan debate: if WSJ gets at least one or two more hits soon/decides to go for a bigger serialisation round again (and one of these will happen, eventually), it's getting cancelled. And so could potentially other series like High School Family, Me & Roboco, and others as well if we get some more successes to outperform them.

I am sure I was not the cause of their leaving. Moderating is a community driven effort and I'm sure they felt the role of moderating was best left to the members, so they stepped down to remove themselves from the picture.

Anyone is capable of inquiring if theyre name can be added to the pool of potential moderators, it never hurts to ask.

Lastly, anytime I've potentially said something unintentionally hyperbolic or unintentionally baity, Ive apologized. Id hate for my words and their meaning to be twisted into something I didnt mean.

Lol calm down, is just a forum.
80% of the userbase here make shittier post than sharkbait because at least he make it as a joke.
He doesn't make a thesis about how nak the hack ruins everything.
Or why don't cancel series that doesn't sell because they trigger you.
Or why magu or roboko isn't dead yet.
Just ignore Shark shitty post and contribute insted of whinning about the thread being shit making it even shittier lol

Magu’s editor blurb at the end of this chapter makes the same joke that Roboco and HSF did about “praying for an adaptation” which is PR speak for an anime isn’t planned can we never have this debate again now

I mean, you can dress it up however you'd like, but you are quite literally the reason our previous moderator is gone.

But talking about it won't bring him back, so I think it's time to expire this discussion, as well as this week's episode of "Is Magu the next big thing? [It isn't]" and "Is Magu the biggest failure in Jump history? [It isn't]". No one can change anyone's mind on the topic, so arguing just gives people a platform to project bad ideas. Let's not expose ourselves to pointless frustration anymore.

Anyway, right now I'm pretty confident that the new batch will start on Issue #42, and the Issue #41 cover is going to be Yozakura. At least, I really hope it's Yozakura. Gondaira's art can be so beautiful in color.

Yeahh I really loved the football series from the author of Sesuji wa pin... and the last successful soccer manga I think it was in the 90s... and if we talk about baseball it's the same problem too. (I don't know if we can consider Mr. Fullswing a success though)

Jump had even two successful golf series in the magazine and didn't do nothing (robot and nakaba suzuki series that lasted many volumes without receiving an anime)
