Editors

Ayashimon - Sakakibara
Dorondoron - Katayama
Shugomaru - Naito
So Kaku is paired with his editor on Jigokuraku? Smart idea.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Witch Watch 2 : #9 - #28 - #57
Sakamoto Days 3 : #11 - #39 - #50
High School 3 : #76 - #172 - #363

Holy cow, that improvement on Witch and Sakamoto! Happy to see both doing well, they've earned their spots on the roster.

what do they mean third and final day?
This source follows Shoseki for the first few days (the entire first week, I think?) and then switches to only following weekly.

It has nothing to do with Shoseki or the volumes themselves.

Ayashimon: the author-editor duo of Jigokuraku repeats, which is a good new in theory, but I don't know what other series has been Sakakibara in charge of besides of Jigokuraku, so let's see how they do in Jump (edit: just saw Sakakibara launch list. A lot of flops in J+, the only succesful launch he had was Deadpool Samurai)
Shugomaru: Naito list of launches is full of U-19 axes. But this time we are talking about a gag from an assistant of Oda, so I can see Nakano protecting this with his life.
Dorondoron: another author-editor duo that is repeating. Katayama is one of the best editors (launched JJK, Kimetsu, Black Clover, Summertime in J+), but his list has a stain: Golem Hearts. And Osuka position is going to be the hardest of all in my opinion (magazine so packed that something "consolidated" must die in February for a 2 round to happen (most likely candidates: Magu, HSF, and maybe AyaTri) + one of the newbies is Kaku (doesn't have guaranteed to succeed but at least he won't be U19 if he fails) + other of the newbies has the double blessing of Nakano and Oda))

Well, let's see how things go

why do people still believe in "Oda will save his friends' series" nonsense? Build King just got axed not too long ago

not to mention this isn't even the first series by one of Oda's assistants
Kiyu (Number 10, Rocket de Tsukinukero!)
Ejiri (P2)
Ikezawa (Kurogane, Mononofu, Noah's Notes)
Shibata (Zipman, Yoakemono)
Ishiyama (Ibitsu no Amalgam, Mitsukubi Condor)

heck, I don't even know of any of Oda's former assistants that later became successful in WSJ :XD

So the lesson learned here is that if you're a Oda assistant be ready to find a job in other magazine or publisher, excluding Ishiyama that will probably return for a 3rd series all of them only found success or a more stable serialization outside WSJ :noworry

More than this new batch, what I'm really curious is about what'll happen in the next batch. What if it'll be a longer gap between rounds this time, enough for this new batch to be up for the axe?

WSJ's in an odd spot where they still seem to want to keep all the non-newbies for now with all them having recent colour pages, and PPPPPP the only of the newbies that'll be long enough to get rid of by then if it flops (which we don't know if it will yet) unless they start up the ch 11 axes again.

I guess Dr Stone's been rushing real hard lately so maybe it intends to end in 10-15 chapters, unlikely as that feels? Who knows though, perhaps things will stop jumping around so much and we'll see clearer candidate(s) occupying the bottom 3 every issue.

Do any of you have the last works from the current (and next batch) editors? Their track record so far, I mean.

Also: is Neru ending in the next chapter or not?

Yes is ending.

I think @Aeneas must know about the editors list

Here.

Not sure if you wanted Red Hood and Neru too, but check Taguchi, Murakoshi, Takano, Naito, and Katayama.

I still need to add a section for Sakakibara (Ayashimon), but as Mankichi noted, he’s a Jump+ editor whose biggest launch was the Deadpool series. Though he was in charge of Jigokuraku for much of its run.

Yod Venus by Nagoshi Ryousuke is the last Entry of the 15th Golden Future Cup.(Gotta say i kinda expected more from this one but it was entertaining at least, and i will say that the author has some major drawing chops).
Sankakuhead (Himouto! Umaru-chan) drew a fanart of Yod Venus.
Nagoshi Ryousuke has been his assistant for around 10 years.

Ihara Daiki probably saw Naito past series list and decided to follow the advice of keeping Koisuru One Piece in hiatus instead of ending it :derp

So do you guys see Ayakashi ending any times soon? The series sales are completely static, and at this point it feels like it can enter an endgame arc whenever is feels like with relatively little trouble.

I doubt it. If nothing else, it has a stage at Jump Festa. While that clearly isn't the be all, end all, I think it still has more of a run left than people would like to admit. Unless, of course, it was never intended to be that long to begin with, but I doubt that, as well.

The sales have stagnated to the point where I just can't see any sort of growth anymore, it has already reached it's peak. Not to mention that it has the single worst ToC of any "ecchi" (note: this term doesn't actually exist in Jump/Shueisha lingo as ラブコメ is used instead. Ecchi isn't a genre term at all in Japan) barring failures like E-Robot, to run in Jump. The fact that it has never gotten a cover after the inital one, not even for it's 1st anniversary, while newer series like Sakamoto, Blue Box and Elusive have gotten 3 each so far, says it all really.

I won't argue with the first half of what you said, because you're right, but I will say To Love Ru only had 1 initial cover period after it's debut during it's whole WSJ run, so I don't know if the cover argument is the best one. I do agree it's not great, and also an odd choice, but I don't think it is a particularly telling sign.

After ghost tits fiasco, I don't think Jump would ever let any ecchi manga get cover page.

1. Jujutsu Kaisen: OBJECTION!!! (also, first chapter I really liked since it returned from hiatus)
2. The Elusive Samurai: Things were going smoothly for our team and then...the final pages happened. I wasn't expecting that and I'm curious to see how they will adapt to the new situation.
3. Sakamoto Days: Those killers are dropping way faster than I thought. Their role was to estabilish who are the real powerhouses of this manga, so in the end they had a purpose to fulfill, even if it wasn't what we were expecting at the beginning.
4. PPPPPP: I don't know why I'm ranking this so high recently, it just turns out to be here when the chart is complete. The definition of a "monster" was nice and original, and the brother reacted like a "genius" would. I hope this series survives now that has apparently found its footing.
5. Witch Watch: The comedy chapters for this series can be either very funny or very boring. Classroom episodes are usually the best, but the chemistry of the family has started to click so now their wacky adventures can be enjoyable as well. Nyep!
6. Black Clover: I'll admit I got excited for the family reunion. There are occasions where Black Clover is good at doing what it is trying to do every chapter.
7. Highschool Family: The culture festival concludes with another family moment, in a rare case where they act as an ensemble. I'll ship Kotaro with Yumiki 'till the day I die (or the series dies, whichever happens first).
8. One Piece: Great Sanji moment in there, but as always there's too much on display to fully enjoy it. The Mangaplus re-edition is at Arlong Park now, and the character-focused chapters were much easier to follow back then.
9. Magu-chan: God of Destruction: Poor Ren, seems to never catch a break. The new human addition doesn't actually add anything to the story, but her God companion can lead to many interesting situations if explored properly.
10. Blue Box: ...and once again the cliffhanger is resolved as an hasty red herring. This is starting to get boring. On the plus side, we finally begin to see things from the viewpoint of Chinatsu, it's time to give her some more screentime.
11. My Hero Academia: I don't have much to say about this chapter actually. Not sure if her role in the story has already been fulfilled or there's more.
12. Dr. Stone: I don't buy that neither Senku nor Xeno didn't think of that solution. This manga is racing so fast to the conclusion that the characterization begins to crumble...it is a bad sign.
13. Undead Unluck: I get what they were trying to do, but from a battle strategy point of view I can't turn an eye from how they basically dig their own grave and lost the match. Please remember that a lot of human lives are at stake.
14. Ayakashi Triangle: I liked a lot this arc, but now it's concluded. The fanservice with no purpose has returned at the end, so I have to drop its ranking a little bit hoping it doesn't have to go rock bottom again in the next weeks.
So do you guys see Ayakashi ending any times soon? The series sales are completely static, and at this point it feels like it can enter an endgame arc whenever is feels like with relatively little trouble.
I can see it ending before the end of 2022. But they have to find the new resident ecchi first.
15. Neru: Way of the Martial artist: I hoped for something more with the new character. The situation with her was resolved in one chapter so I wonder what the final one will be about, maybe they'll go searching for grandpa?
16. Mission: Yozakura Family: As usual, Yozakura fillers are hit or miss. This one was great for the Taiyo-Mutsumi relationship, and I could also relate since I'm also trying to lose a bit of weight. But in the end is one of those chapters that you will forget by next week.
17. The Hunters guild: Red Hood: And there it goes. Quite a disappointing ending, rather forgettable after it tried its best to go out with a bang in the last 2-3 weeks. I hope Kawaguchi will return after having learned something from their errors, but I also fear that they considered Red Hood the project of their life so the shock could be too great to overcome.
18. Me & Roboco: I was sure the popular idol and the kid who reads minds were the same character until this week where they made them interact with each other. I should pay more attention to this manga, but I don't know if it deserves it.
19. Mashle: Welcome back from your first break! Oh, I see you are still the usual Mashle as always. Ok then.

Ayakashi Triangle is more of a battle shounen than a romcom at this point, it still has fanservice of course (like this chapter) but the past few months have been almost all about the action first with just occasional panels of butts and stuff.

I'm pretty curious where it'll go from here. It's the worst ranking series excluding newbies generally (though Witch Watch has been low lately) and things are set up so that it could end quite well in 10-15 chapters if it needed to, but WSJ I think expects ecchi stuff to place low and it's not losing sales, so perhaps it'll still be fine for a while?

Honestly best course of action for the series if it does keep sticking around might be to aim for a natural end around the second anniversary like CSM and Death Note. Not all series need to be 200 chapters long.
