GMG Jura was on Gildarts lvl before he left the guild. It’s why that was the comparison continually made. So that one falls through. An literally all the rest you named as fodders, have either presented a challenge for the main team (Orga is top of Saber, Tempesta vs Natsu) or bested them (Erza, Natsu, Elfman, Mira, Gray) so unless your calling the rest of the guild fodder to Laxus, I’m not sure that’s the point you wanted to make.
An WOG, Mashima said Gildarts is too powerful to be in this battle.
I guess I didn't make my point clear enough. Those opponents might not be fodders but they're in no way stronger than Laxus. My point is that Laxus, when he's got no one else to rely on, has never fought any opponent that's tiers above himself. The only one among major protagonists.

Which I countered with the Jura fight, lol. Laxus was on par with Orga. An had to raise to the occasion with the Jura fight. Hence the whole him also getting slammed during his first rush.

But I think people realized back during GMG arc that Laxus had always been more or less on the same tier with Jellal and Jura right? People came to the conclusion back in the days that Laxus fought on par with Orga only because of the DS to GS disadvantage.
I mean, by hype, Orga = Rufus < Rogue = Sting << Minerva. So unless GMG Laxus was on the same level as GMG Gray, weaker than GMG Natsu and Gajeel, and at least a tier below GMG Erza, it woudn't make sense that he was really on par with Orga.
I am not so sure about that them not being in the same league, I mean those trio we saw were only really lucky, hax or uses FT’s weakness to their advantage.

I mean, we found on Tenrou that Laxus was on the same tier as opponents like Blue Note and Gildarts and Hades, but it’s still a tier. He and Orga had to be comparable for the slayer advantage to kick in, as we’ve seen from the other GS in the series battles. An Jellal had to debut his only good guy spell stronger than chariot. So we know he’s closer to Laxus and Orga end of the tier as well. Laxus beating Jura, who is directly compared to Gildarts was shown to require him pulling out all the stops. It was a big battle, and he was on the back foot for the most of it. An by hype Orga=Minerva the only ones stated to be strongest in the guild. If you can find that claim for Rufus let me know, also feel free to just explain what in the world gave you that idea lol.

Yeah, no. Kiria matched Erza blow for blow, she literally broke her red pants blade and forced her to reveal the special sword she used on Laxus. Please put that “only hax” excuse to rest. All the way. Same for Madmole and Skullion. Mira found a way to damage him, Elfman found a way to damage him. Natsu had to get creative but he did (and Madmole ate that shit…) Gray is the only one who simply didn’t rise to the occasion at all. Those victories were earned, and valid. Laxus just beat they asses because the gap is real. Always has been
Kira only defeated Erza with hax, and sword is not a defensive weapon but for pure offense, DS sword is damage based technique against Dragons, and still Erza beat her fair without mind games, Skullion retreated with Madmole because they are strong, Madmole used Natsu's weakness against him and lost the second time, Gray did not go all out when he fought Skullion.
So now I think Kirin is the perfect opponent for Laxus to go DF, if he really has a chance.
Surely Kirin is not vastly stronger than Laxus, but like Wahl, he has this certain hax that counters Laxus' lightning. So it would be nigh impossible for Laxus to win without a massive power-up. If he still doesn't go DF in this fight, he probably never will.

I'll just copy-paste my post in the chapter discussion thread:
So Laxus said that Kirin's MP level is higher than Gildarts. But comparable.
Edit: Laxus actually said "ギルダーツのおっさんみたいな魔力だ", which means that Kirin's MP level is similar to that of Gildarts, not higher...
That's a... real understatement for someone who's supposed to be stronger than the human form of a DG
I'm sorry but... if Kirin is only a tad higher than Gildarts level, it means that Suzaku is at most Gildarts level, which means that human form Selene ≤ Gildarts.
And we all know that August and Irene were tiers above Gildarts
If Laxus' statesments are true, how tf are the DGs really comparable to Acno anyway
Well I said just yesterday that BDSK are at least August/Irene level... I eat my words sorry

What? Laxus was just testing Ogra lol. They were having lightning vs lighting match. Laxus later went onto extreme diff the dude that stomped Ogra.
Also, according to Mashima, Ogra was the strongest member of Sabertooth.. I guess in a fight Minerva will win cause of her ability, but the dude was the highest in brute stats and attack power.
Also, Sting and Rouge ended up as the strongest members of the guild by the end of the arc. They got massive powerups Sting when his cat "died". Rouge when his shade took over him.
really it turned out to be physical vs lightning battle with their attacks being direct, with Orga's lighting able to hurt Laxus and Laxus relying and brute power since DS don't have immunity to that

Well, to make things clear, it was only stated that Orga was the strongest in Sabertooth only when it comes to attack power. But we all know offensive power isn't everything. His defensive power/speed/durability/stamina/intel were all pretty much bullshit level. Something like a glass cannon, but worse.
It's not your fault anyways, just bad translation.
It was stated multiple times in the beginning of the GMG arc that Sting and Rogue were the ace of the guild (and that's because Minerva didn't come out most cases in previous GMG events). Once it was even directly stated that Orga < Sting (can't remember who made that statement though).

It's actually very easy to defeat someone whose only advantage is raw attack power - dodge his attacks and speedblitz him. That's exactly what Jura did. Much easier to dodge it than to tank it. Even if you have Acno level attack power, if it can't hit any opponent, it means nothing. Remember Wahl Ehito's Etherion

Nah, even ignoring the statements from the MPF chapter, Orga was the most powerful member of Sabertooth, with the likely exception of Minerva. Sting and Rogue were weaker, they were the ace of Sabertooth in the same way Natsu the Salamander was for Fairy Tail. Reputable, but ultimately not in the upper echelons of power.
Orga was just beaten quickly because Jura was a beast at the time, too powerful for anyone to handle really.

Like I said it was just bad translation, IIRC in Japanese raw it only said he was the best in attack power
The way Jura dealt with him (dodge his attack not tanking it) also shows that he was only good in attack, he has not any good feats in speed/defense/stamina etc

That doesn’t state she’s the strongest though. An it explicitly says she’s stronger than the Twin Dragons, but it doesn’t say she’s the strongest in the guild. An greatest isn’t a direct comment on strength either.
All that is way less interesting than this nonsense idea that Gildarts power is for some reason stagnant. Like that invalidates the shown feats of Selene and Suzaku and the incoming planetary stat boost Laxus will have earned from besting Kirin.

The fact that she is called the greatest would imply that she's above the other 4 of the 5 strongest mages in the guild which includes Orga (Minerva, Orga, Rufus, Sting & Rogue are the 5 strongest according to the manga).
Also the only time Orga was called the strongest was when she left the guild, funny enough. Furthermore, fan translations of the same chapter has Rufus call her 'strongest' which further supports that it can be translated and interpreted as strongest/most powerful/most formidable/greatest in this sense.
IIRC 'Dai' (大) in Japanese means 'great' while 'saikyo' ('Sai' + 'kyo') (最強) means 'strongest', however in speaking 'dai' can refer to strength given the context of the situation and since Rufus went on to boast that she's stronger than the twin dragons and was speaking about Erza/Kaguya's strength, it would actually support that he was talking about her strength even if he did say 'greatest' instead of 'strongest'.
I don't know Japanese so I can't clarify if this is a situation like that, though I do have the raws. If someone can clarify what's the word and/or if it does refer to power if it is the word greatest, that would be great!
Again idk Japanese but it seems to me that 最強 (Saikyo) is used in the raw which means 'strongest' as opposed to 大 (Dai) which means 'great'. So it seems that Rufus is literally saying that she's the strongest mage in Sabertooth, hence the use of 最強 (Saikyo) instead of 大 (Dai).
With that being said, it's a kid series, for the most part, so it's not likely that Mashima is nitpicking and differentiating between Minerva being the greatest and Orga being the strongest. And this is me ignoring him getting low diffed by Jura while Minerva had a better showing against Erza/Kagura, even though they are weaker than Jura/Laxus.
