Plot twist. Shanks missed Luffy when they left fusha village and got a monkey to remind him of Luffy. But the monkey had the same growth rate as Luffy so eventually Shanks had no choice but to make him an executive...
No, the Monkey has actually been part of Shanks crew in chapter 1 and was also already named. This is just confirmation that it is the same Monkey because they look kinda different.

It's said in the SBS that all the guys named are executives in Shanks' crew and that they know Luffy
In fact all of them appear already in chapter 1.

Shimotsuki Kozaburo 55 years saved a village from bandits.
He taught them Swordsmanship, the change the village name to Shimotsuki village.
He found a wife there, and had a child called Shimotuski Koshiro, so Kuina must also be a Shimotsuki.
Zoro's name is Roronoa. We know of Shimotsuki Ryuma, Ushumaru, Kozaburo and Yasuie.
Zoro's name is not Shimotsuki, but he has some Shimotsuki traits.
I'm guessing Zoro's mother is Shimotsuki, and his father is Roronoa. That would explain why he's not Shimotsuki in name but. has similarities.

This village had people settled there before Kozaburo arrived, so there's people that he could have met to marry, and people there to marry his children.

Kozaburo found a wife in East Blue, his son (Koshiro) had a daughter.
Koshiro's daughter (Kuina) is a little older than Zoro meaning Kozaburo potentially had a daughter who married some guy called Roronoa from East Blue.
For Zoro and Kuina to be similar age, we're guessing Koshiro and his sister who must have found partners to marry in the village had kids around the same time.

So, Koshiro might actually be Zoro's uncle, not just his sensei. So, in a sense, he's a Roronoa who has relations and genes from the Shimotsuki clan, and Kuina is his cousin I guess.
Tashigi is likely a cousin, similar age, so quite possible that Kozaburo had multiple children who carry Shimotsuki genes. Zoro looks exactly like Ushima which is no different to Tashigi looking like Kuina; happens that people end up looking identical to relatives from decades of years ago.

The most think i found weird, we never see any Zoro parent ot even foster parent, its just Zoro hit the dojo n challange them, until kuina come to defeat him,,
We not even know the real reason why hit the dojo n want to he strong even before meet kuina.

My only issue with this is that Kozaburo didn't show Zoro is related to him, nor did Koshiro or Kuina.

I do agree that Zoro is a Shimotsuki, this much is clear. 2 scenarios I can envision:

- Somehow there was a family issue where Zoro ended up being born without Kozaburo being aware at all
- Zoro is not related to Kozaburo, but to some other Shimotsuki. But this makes it weird because I have the feeling was an orphan when he joined the dojo. You would think that if he was Shimotsuki, then Koshiro and Kozaburo would've taken care of him.

Kozaburo just seemed like an old man who spent his days fishing. He also wanted to hide his identity for the most part given that he had a bounty iirc and was wanted by the WG. It makes sense that he didn't disclose much.
He probably didn't feel the need to do speak much on his identity. Not speaking protected that village.

I'm willing to bet Kozaburo was well aware of his children's children. He just seems like an old man that has lived his life, wants to live in peace and nothing more. He probably wasn't much of a talker. He comes across as that old man the children called weird and just didn't know much about his identity whereas the adults would all have been aware.

Koshiro did take care of him, that was his Sword master. Koshiro also put a lot of faith in Zoro and encouraged him too. The very fact Koshiro was able to give Zoro Wado Ichimonji in itself is quite the privilege, he gave him 1 of the 21 great swords... at such a young age. That sword was worth quite a lot too outside of being a family heirloom.

Lol they advertised the village as Shimotsuki Village, but didn't want to attract the attention of the WG. As far as we know, Zoro is just some feral child, if he was related to Kozaboro, what was the point of not telling him, yet Kuina's father and grandfather are known to her? None of this makes sense.

I meant pre-dojo days. The impression I got was that Zoro was some sort of orphan hanging around and one day he just decided to go to the dojo and talk shit to people there. If Koshiro was aware before that Zoro was related to him, it is odd that he wasn't raising him along with Kuina to begin with.

He's clearly related to Kozaburo, that much is undeniable. We have seen the resemblance to Ushimaru Shimtotsuki. All this historical references and such add to that.

As far as we know, it's not that Zoro was just some feral child, we simply weren't given his background. How much of his background do we have until now? Like 1 period of his life and more or less his interactions with 2 people being Kuina and Koshiro. We never knew much about him, anything would have just been assumption.

And do the WG know that Oden's name is Kozuki? So, they wouldn't necessarily know Kozaburo was a Shimotsuki, he may have gone purely by the Kozaburo name. Even Sanji's identity despite being a Vinsmoke was never known until recently. While the WG have great intel, they don't know everything. Law being a D is unknown.

People can conceal their names. Seems to be pretty common.

I'd think he raised him, still assumption on my part, reality is we don't know.

Bare in mind we only saw few panels where Zoro was with Koshiro and Kuina. At the very least, he lived in the same village. We just don't know much about Zoro's past in general, we know very little. Did he live with Koshiro? No idea. Did he live with his own parents? Maybe, or are they dead? Possibly. We don't know much regarding Zoro, but I'd imagine Wano would further elaborate.

Btw, most people always complaint some hero always be destiny or have awesome parents,,
Luffy, Sanji, Ussop have "great" parents,,
So what do u really want, Zorro from famous/importan family, or he just random boy who rise up to the top of the world?

Let Zoro be the random boy who rose to the top.

I mean, all great lineages have to start SOMEWHERE.
Shanks and Whitebeard, as far as we know, weren't from some super family. They were both random kids who grew up insanely strong

Considering Roger's comments about babies and how Oda was evasive about that particular comments in the SBS, wouldn't me surprise that Shanks was picked up in God Valley and his lineage might be linked to Rocks. The only major issue here is that the timelines do match, so it is impossible (although I feel BB is the most likely candidate for that).

Zoro was the baby Roger found? Time line matches give or take a decade

Make sense.
Maybe he was live with his parent, then his parent die. So he end up in shimotsuki village, that why he not see kuina/koshiro/kozaburo as his family.
Oda never say he born in shimotsuki village, he just say zoro grow up in this village. So there an option, he from other village.
I not clearly remember this scene is canon/filler, but i think there a scene when some people in koshiro's dojo argue about give the dojo to kuina or not cause she is female. so if the heir not kuina, do they have any other candidates ????

@Pirate Queen So much for Zoro being related to Ryuma or Ushimaru.

Roronoa Zoro the man who doesn’t need his parent’s help or DFs to be strong. 100% self-made.

Imagine if he had Garp’s blood and a powerful DF… he could probably low diff Prime WB.

Um do you know something we don't? I haven't seen anything explicitly revealing Zoro's ancestry that could lead you to conclude this...
