Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

No to all of this or why waste resources making inferior units? Mihawk is likely the easiest to replicate as he had no df and as you said, just raw stats. Replicating 5 Mihawks with 5 different abilities would be the most efficient.

Vegapunk: "Yes, so you want me to make an army of elite killing units, sure. I'll make a battalion of Mihawk clones and..."

Gorosei: "No, we want a Jinbei clone and Crocodile clone"

Vegapunk: "But they wouldn't be as strong as the Mihawk unit and will just waste resources"

Gorosei: "stop using that big brain of yours and clone us jinbei, gawd dammit!!!!!"

How does that even make sense? Lol

No to what?

I even said that the gap isn't as high.
I said S-Hawk would high diff the next strongest Seraphim, not low diff. Because until proven otherwise, Seraphim haven't inherited haki from the OGs (we don't know if they have haki, or even if they do that it is comparable to OGs),

But there is no denying that the raw combat stats of S-Hawk is on a completely different level. I'll believe otherwise when another Seraphim casually pulls out island level feats.

Why make each type? Cause they want the versatility duh. There can be plenty more reasons theoretically, other than just "they all same strength".
Plus it's intended to just be a parallel to OG Shichibukai really, don't think too hard about it lol.

Versatility is a weird excuse lol.

No reason why they wouldn't just clone mihawks and give him different abilities, as I stated in my comment. There is your versatility.

Until shown, none have been shown to be above the others and there would be no reason to assume otherwise.

Why send both Mihawk and Hancock Seraphim against Hancock if by your logic only Mihawk Seraphim would be needed?

And definitely didn't think too hard on that. It is an incredibly simple question.

Why waste resources on a jinbei clone when you can simply make another mihawk clone with the Same df. Easy explanation, they are all relatively equal.

Mihawk with the swim swim fruit is far more deadly than Jinbei with the swim swim fruit. Or do you disagree?

I am inclined to thinking the seraphines have the capacity for haki at least. Since haki is inherently a trait of living beings. Their main issue is probably their upbringing and perhaps young age. I wouldn't rule out this not being taught to them as a safeguard. Something to give the world government an edge in case they go rogue.

People need to stop under estimating g5 luffy. I keep seeing statements like kaido only lost to g5 luffy because he was nerfed from prior fights. This makes no logically sense.

Luffy wasn’t capable of defeating kaido until he unlocked gear 5. And luffy was twice as much nerfed as kaido was. There is no way kaido took more damage then luffy at that point in the fight. Sure he took hits from 9RS, Zoro and other SN. But luffy Had been taking hits from kaido himself, which would of fealty luffy way more damage then the damage kaido took. G5 was at a disadvantage vs kaido and still managed to over power kaido and win. I don’t care if he recovered his damage with awaken super recovery it means kaido would of extremely struggled to battle him at 100% because he would of had to “win” twice. Which he wasnt capable of winning once vs g5 and got outside assistant to beat g4.

and now you want to put kaido vs a healthy g5? He had a chance it’s not a stomp but he probably loses 7/10 times if not more.

Reread the part. When Luffy disengaged from Lucci and they went to the lab it took 37 seconds and he was back to normal. Oda went out of his way to give us that number And yes. The two times he gigantified he shortly after turned old, but not for long.
Hasn't he used giant techniques *every* time he's used G5 then? How do you know it's the giant techniques specifically and not just G5? Occam would like a word

Well there's your problem 😂

Luffy went in to g5 3 times. 2 times vs Kaido. Once vs Lucci.

The first time he used G5 vs Kaido it ended right after he gigantified, turning him into the old man.

The second time he used G5 to finish the fight with Kaido he DID NOT Gigantify, only increasing the size of his arm for bajrang gun, like he does with King Kong Gun. Luffy did not revert to an old man this time because he did not Gigantify his whole body. Yamato caught him down on wano and he was just fine. No old man

The third time he used G5 he gigantified and turned into an old man after getting out of G5

Why does Luffy suffer from those side effects? Is that something he can get rid of or is it permanent?

Isn't Gear 5 awakening?
Do you really not know? Lol.

What does that have to do with anything?

Drawbacks to incredible powers are regularly overcome

It's confirmed that Kaido's powers were weakening during Kaido vs Yamato. Kaido definitely was tired and beat Luffy one more time after that. Kaido got worn down by other people, Luffy was worn out by Kaido himself, there's a difference.

The thing is it doesn’t matter why luffy or kaido we’re worn down in the context of g5 luffy vs kaido. If you wanted to know who wins between those 2 you just care about who was more nerfed and how the battle ended. Sure kaido was weakened from his previous battles but luffy was nearly killed prior to g5 so a worse condition g5 beat kaido. It doesn’t matter why kaido and g5 luffy are injured just the fact that a g5 luffy beat kaido with a worse handicap.

as such why should kaido be able to beat a fully healthy g5 luffy when he’s also fully healthy when he can’t beat him with a free advantage.

I understand your perspective.
& it’s opposing view.
I personally Lie smack inbetween; I think it’s hard to really say and both arguments have valid points.

Here’s the Argument for G5 Luffy…He overcame all odds and came out the winner in the end. In a Nutshell. If he could do it exhausted he’ll get it done again.

Opposing Argument. Hybrid Kaido lost in the end. Mostly due to fighting multiple opponents & getting worn out. If he could face G5 Luffy from the beginning he shouldn’t lose.

Both are could be possible but only Oda could answer definitively; The source material gives evidence for both arguments.

G5 Luffy Portryal wasn’t above Hybrid Kaido.
Only until the Final anti-climatic Clash.

Kaido hit G5 Luffy a lot more than G5 Luffy hit him. Kaido countered G5 Luffy a lot more than G5 did.

So there’s a valid perspective. That if G5 has its drawbacks. Kaido would outlast Luffy if they were both fresh……You can’t ignore that Luffy recovered & died but pushed through…While Kaido just continued to fight on the Rooftop defeating opponent after opponents & carrying Onigashima. Context matters

I don't expect all 5 of them to be that strong.

But wouldn't be surprised if one or two of them were that strong, and the rest very strong too but more of a "low top tier".

The point was that all of the battle damage Luffy sustained was from Kaido. Nobody else can take credit for Luffy's L, while on the other hand, Kaido was worn down by multiple people. Not to mention, Luffy literally ate meat after some Ls too. Kaido laying damage on Luffy isn't an advantage, while Luffy having other people do it is.

And that aside, Oda's intent with that Yamato statement was blatant.

Clearly not if I asked. Or rather, I don't remember.

Because Awakening shouldn't have drawbacks, as far as I remember?
