Chapter 1099: “Tyrant”
-King Bekori wants to sell the undesirables to the Celestial Dragons, Kuma stops him and is framed as a tyrant.
-When Kuma is caught by the marines, he agrees to be a Shichibukai in exchange for Vegapunk to find a cure for Bonney.
-Saturn orders Kuma’s memories to be wiped, he blames the Buccaneer Race for keeping the memory of Nika alive.
-Flashback presumably ends this chapter with Kuma’s mind being wiped.

Brought to you by Goatac

Not confirmed I think =))
At least something

Sure not confirmed but this point makes alot of sense now on why Kuma memory need to be wiped due to keeping Nika existence alive. To bad even if they wipe Kuma memory their are some people that knows about Nika existence - Vegapunk and Bonney lol

Kinda makes me wonder if more people knows about Nika existence and does the Drums of Liberation dance is that how Luffy will become more stronger and master Gear 5 with no drawbacks? Also I'm starting to think that the Drums of Liberation is Luffy Awakening.

I remember saying this is probably why Kuma's memory is wiped because as VP said, as long as people wish in Nika, he will always exist as a DF.
Makes sense why the WG destroyed all the other Nations related to the Ancient Kingdom.
No wonder they put such a high bounty on King, but if that is the case, it is crazy if Greenbull didn't apprehend both King and Queen given King being from an Ancient Race of people related or know of Nika? and Queen for being 1 of the greatest scientists.

It also seems insane that Haki is strong enough if not stronger than DFs if one wants to be Pirate King which essentially means conquering the Grand Line. If Haki is that powerful, why are they so scared of the Joyboy/Nika DF if they can just defeat DF users with Haki?
Perhaps, the power of Nika is to control fate, I think there is more to Nika than it just being a DF with whacky fighting abilities, that DF might really be the most legit "god" power in the series that can make things/dreams come true.
If so, this is wild,
I am just speculating, I could well be wrong, but if things go along this line, then Luffy's DF is beyond plot-power because we know that EVERYTHING works in Luffy's favour whether he gets defeated, it ends up benefiting him. Nika might be the most powerful DF in the series by the looks of things. Luffy's luck is insane, it might actually be related to his DF and believing in Nika might make the luck of other people or their wishes for freedom and more become a reality.

PK is a title given to those who conquour the grand line - at least in terms of what others' see. But Roger didn't really "do it" did he? he knew he wasn't the one/too early so for whatever reason, haki alone is not enough.

Honestly we don't even know if Imu or Gorosei even tried to stop Roger as they are actively doing against Luffy. There's a gap of the fruit's location 20 years ago (or really 800-13 years ago). Maybe the WG left Roger alone knowing he didn't have the fruit and was therefore no threat (to WG).

Probably because haki is related to an individual willpower and nika existence inspire people all over the world to be free. Just by existing he will always inspire people to fight against everything the tenryubito and gorousei exist for. Even if Luffy isn't necessarily targeting them, his actions are always inspiring people to desire freedom from whatever is opressing them. If you put the whole nika deal together with the fact that now there's someone like dragon in the world who is connecting all these people who desire freedom, the world government can be in real trouble. I believe that when we finally get to learn what happened with the original nika, we'll also see that his downfall was related to the fact that the people that wanted him gone were organized and he and his friends weren't.

PK is not just a title, it's symbolic of being the stongest.
What Roger didin't do was fulfil the purpose of One Piece, he nonetheless was the first to find it.
Pirate King is just whomever finds the One Piece and in order to do that, you have to defeat all the strongest pirate.

They definitely tried to stop Roger, that is not even debatable.
They changed his name from Gol D to GOLD to hide the D in his name because the D. is associated with the Ancient Kingdom/Nika.
They went so far as to even kill his unborn child, so we know he was definitely a threat.
If someone possessing Roger's blood was enough to kill an unborn child, there's no debate the WG and Imu considered him the greatest threat.

Furthermore, Roger was the one who encouraged others to find the One Piece and he created the Pirate Age, he was the worst thing to happen to the WG.

The fruit is not the only thing related to the Ancient Kingdom, the Poneglyphs reveal the history of the world and bring back knowledge of Nika, Ancient Weapons give one the power to control the world so much that the WG cannot compete against Ancient Weapons and Roger had access to all of this besides the DF.

We also know part of the reason the WG wanted Xebec dead was because he was interested in the Poneglyph which would have the Ancient History and knowledge of Nika, so it's not the fruit that is the end all be all, the end all be all is knowledge and military power, and as long as people seek the one piece, they are essentially going to find the One Piece and get a hold of knowledge and power which the WG can't afford to be in the hands of anyone.

The fruit is just 1 thing, there's more facets to the whole dynamics besides just the fruit.

Nika doesn't inspire people to be free, If someone is a slave, they want to be free whether or not Nika exists.
What Nika inspires in people is the belief in him because he liberates people, so people who become slaves and know of Nika wish for Nika, so he exists and potentially will save them.
This is seemingly why who's who was meant to be killed the moment he learnt of Nika, the WG seemingly don't want anyone with knowledge of Nika because if Nika exists, his power still exists - we also have the instance where Kuma mentioned Nika to Saturn who said this is also why he must be killed, and from what we can see, Nika might have powers we don't know of yet... 1 being his power to befriend Zunesha, another being an apparent ability to revive the giant robot and there may be more imo.

I also doubt it's a lack of organisation that the Ancient Kingdom fell.
800 years ago the Ancient Kingdom & Nika were ORGANIZED enough to create Poneglyph and spread Poneglyphs to different countries all over the world, and just think about this... 800 years later, the WG STILL hasn't found all the Poneglyphs and a problem from 800 years ago is still biting them in the back. That logically can't be disorganisation, they seem very well organised from what I can see.

We know in Skypiea who were given Poneglyphs when they were originally on land, the WG infiltrated their Island and battled with them, so we know they had allies from Skypiea, Zou, Wano, etc.

In this arc, we learnt that the robot that got activated was made 900 years ago and climbed Mariejoa 200 years ago exactly when the Fishman discrimination started. From this alone, I would say it suggests Nika and the Ancient Kingdom had plans and things in place. Something just happened that led to this goal being unachieved.
If anything, I'd say Joyboy either died before he could finish his plans, it seems even when Joyboy apologised, he said someone will come in his stead to complete his goals. Also, 20 kingdoms came together, it could be they were just overwhelmed and didn't have enough time to mount an offence against the Celestial Dragons.
Seems Joyboy being around was also needed to make the plan come to pass seeing how one of the Poneglyph seems to suggest Joyboy will befriend Poseidon who controls Seakings and Noah, and also is befriending Zunesha whose purpose seems related to opening Wano's borders and Pluton.

They dealt with his legacy not with him. He created an idea, which was very Nika like - making people believe in freedom and goals - on his deathbed. But he wasn't Nika. Hiding the D is more general - they do that for everyone. And you can't kill an idea, you can only kill people.

Killing Ace is more of a symbol that people would flock to rather than being special in and of itself. Also they refused to attack him once he was part of Whitebeard's crew - has that stopped the Gorosei from trying to execute Luffy while being an emperor and while in the middle of fighting Kaido? They have much much much higher desire for Nika than Roger. The Gorosei and Imu weren't even mentioned around Roger's era.

And yes no doubt he was the strongest. At that time. Think of Wano and Oden who was the strongest for all he knew - until he met outside pirates. Roger was the strongest in the world but maybe not strong enough or able to satisfy the conditions. He ran into a dead-end. Wasn't the one so he laughed.

Luffy's luck is insane, it might actually be related to his DF and believing in Nika might make the luck of other people or their wishes for freedom and more become a reality.
We don't know if King and Queen were apprehended, we kinda have no reason to believe they weren't. Though if King is imprisoned, I fully expect to see a one-panel scene of King escaping his imprisonment and seeing Luffy going full Nika in the final conflict, just as a nice little touch to bring his life full round. Tangential: My full-fan-wish is for the remaining first commanders allied to Luffy for whatever reason all do something badass at the same time later on. Marco, Katakuri, and King all going ham on someone at the same time would be fucking wild.

That's fine, it's possible that haki mastery is less common for Celestial Dragons and world nobles in general, which could be a convenient reason why the Marines exist as a pillar of power and sword for the WG: commoners (who become Marines) are much more likely to develop and master haki just by nature of it being a survivor's skill. CD's and nobles don't have to survive, they have no opportunity to hone that ability without extraordinary circumstances like Doffy. The one thing I like about haki as a magic system is that it kinda requires hardship and avoids the privileged.

Eh, I think Luffy's stupid luck and ability to gain followers is completely natural. Now it could be a chicken and egg thing- I choose to believe those were traits that Luffy was born with and the Nika fruit was naturally drawn towards- regarding the assumption by that Gorosei that zoans have a mind of their own and the implication they tend to go to whom they want. Given what we know about zoan users... I'm betting on that not just being an assumption.

His fruit isn't a JoJo end villain stand, he's not controlling some cosmic force of time or space or gravity or fate or calamity. He was just the right dude at the right time for a lot of stars to align- it only took 800-900 years or so.

Either way I just hope Oda got significant rest this week

I'm feeling this won't be the end of the flashback either
I wish Oda Senpai would just hurry and finished OP. His health worries me.

lol makes no sense that WG goes to such lengths to erase Nika from existence. But just lets the Nika fruit or its fruit user (Luffy, pre-Yonkou or even now) just roam around carefreely without taking any strong action.

I think you got your finger on the pulse there. The more the world is aware of Nika, believing in him, praying for him to help, the more belief in Luffy/Nika then the stronger Luffy/Nika fruit is, potentially. The fact that Luffy has the power to influence others naturally, plus his fruit effecting everything when in the Nika form, means that it is going to be one for the benefit of everyone.

If this ancient robot is proven to be awoken by the "Drums of Liberation" then it's pretty much confirmed that it's impact was of extreme significance in the void century, outside of Joyboy's own body. Science can take advantage of this and/or, the user of the Nika fruit can influence tech as a power source at the very least.

However that eventuates, I am beyond keen.

We don't know if King and Queen were apprehended, we kinda have no reason to believe they weren't.
Maybe we'll find out if Cross Guild goes there, and Buggy makes friends with Wano due to his past with Oden.

Beside the Shanks point whom we probably won't see again for a while, all can be done within 2-3 chapters lol. Only way Egghead gets prolonged until 2025 is if there is actually an All-Out war between Straw Hats vs 30000 Marines lead by Gorosei Saturn, Admiral Kizaru, and 9 Vice Admiral then which the Straw Hats would need their allies Ninja-Mink-Samurai?, Sun Pirates?, Kuja Pirates?, Renament of Whitebeard Pirates?, and Straw Hat Grand Fleet.

Anyways I would like to know the purpose of Kuma saving the Straw Hats at Shaboady. This has to be in the Kuma flashback right?

Well if you remember they did try to get the Nika Fruit in their possession and renamed it so they don't mutter it's name but then Shanks stole it and was eaten by Luffy at age 7. It's been 10 plus years since the Gorosei heard of their rename Nika Fruit aka Gomu Gomu no Mi and I don't think they can be for certain it's that Luffy has that fruit. My assumption is that they probably already forgot about Nika existence because it's been 10 plus year. Like I said only a handful of people knew of Nika existence which is why I think once more people know about Nika the stronger Luffy is gonna become. What we see now is probably only a small glimpse of Nika actual true power.

Especially putting out a new bounty with the Nika picture! They also want to silence D. but put his name fully on the bounty posters. For a 800 year old organization, they make some crucial mistakes.

(We all know Nika was retconned, like come on...)

Sorry, but that's completely false. They dealt with Roger, otherwise he won't have a bounty even higher than Whitebeard. Roger had the highest bounty in the series so far, yet you claim they didn't deal with him? You don't get a bounty for doing nothing, you get a bounty for causing the WG problems.

Name every time Luffy's bounty went up.... it was right after he did something huge... so a close to 6 billion bounty is for not dealing with a Pirate, if anything it's for being unable to deal with a Pirate.
If you have a bounty it essentially means the WG has not been able to do anything about you unless they apprehend you which they couldn't do against Roger.

He created an idea, which was very Nika like - making people believe in freedom and goals
Roger never created an idea like Nika, nor did he make people believe in goals or freedom.
All Roger did was find the One Piece and tell people to look for it, he didn't do anything other than that to put it simply.

You don't need someone to tell you "bro you're a slave, why not try that thing where.... you're not a slave, great idea? right?".
If you're a slave, you want freedom, that's just a fact.

Killing Ace is more of a symbol that people would flock to rather than being special in and of itself.
It is special, not sure if you read what Sengoku said in Marineford, and why Whitebeard adopted him. Sengoku said Ace was special for having Roger's blood because he has the potential to be the strongest, so he had to be killed quickly.
Whitebeard also adopted him for similar reasons, he wanted someone that could succeed him, and what did Whitebeard say on his deathbed? He said One Piece was real, and he also spoke with Roger concerning the One Piece, so Ace was a special person.
Whitebeard was raising Ace to be Pirate King.
Furthermore, Roger wanted a son because he wanted Ace to fulfil the One Piece which he couldn't since Poseidon wasn't alive.
Killing Ace was beyond symbolic, it was pretty much just as important as killing Luffy because otherwise, it's a problem for their future.

Also they refused to attack him once he was part of Whitebeard's crew
Completely false, I don't know where you're getting your information from, but you don't get a bounty if the WG don't intend to catch or kill you. They did attack Ace, maybe you haven't read the novels which are canon.
Only Shicibukai get exemptions from such things.

They have much much much higher desire for Nika than Roger. The Gorosei and Imu weren't even mentioned around Roger's era.
Again, this is not true. We don't know much of Roger's era to say they weren't mentioned, and that is HIGHLY unlikely, these are people who rule the world and Roger also knew the full history which would have mentioned the Gorosei and Imu.

Also, they don't have much more desire for Nika than Roger, I don't think you understand that Roger and Nika are intertwined.
Acquiring the Nika DF doesn't stop people from going after the One Piece which Roger made a more common goal in the Pirate World.
Without Nika or Luffy, you still have Kid, Law, and countless other Pirates going after the One Piece, so there's just no truth to what you're saying here.

Furthermore, the idea they didn't have great desire for Roger is just so far from the truth.
  • Roger had the highest bounty among all pirate.
  • They literally went to war against an Emperor which they rarely do just to kill his son.
  • Roger started the Pirate age which increase the number of pirates in so much that the WG begun to use Pirates to fight Pirates (Shichibukai).
I don't know how you can seriously try to underplay how huge a role Roger played and how much of a thorn he is to the WG. Even in death, his actions are still haunting them - the fact there are so many Pirates and the fact more people are looking for the One Piece... heck, the fact even Luffy wants to be a Pirate is also inspired by Roger.

If we enumerate Luffy's luck, it is other worldly.

  1. This guy went to Punk Hazard when Law just happened to be there? Someone who knew the whole layout of Punk Hazard.
  2. Then from Punk Hazard, went to Dressrosa to defeat Joker on the day that just so happens to have the RA, 100s of people from all over fighting in the colosseum later to be allies.... and then an Admiral that got sent over who would just happen to take a liking to Luffy (any Admiral other than Fujitora would have killed Luffy realistically).
  3. Saving Dressrosa just so happens to save Zou who are connected to Wano and Roger, and because of that, the Minks took a liking to Luffy and aided him in his endeavour to take down Kaido.
  4. Let's not forget he went to WCI, Jimbei just happened to be there with the Fishman Pirates.
  5. Bege happened to be a part of the BMP for a couple years, got the lay of the land, the dynamics and such as if he was stationed there by Luffy to scout before he decided to make a move.
  6. Or even look at Marineford, they fell from the sky after escaping Impel Down on the only spot in Marineford where the ice had melted... otherwise everyone there would have died.
So many things just so happen to align in his favour without ANY PLANNING at all, it's insane.

A certain amount of luck is natural, but the luck Luffy has is a bit too much.... I haven't even mentioned everything, there's still so many instances where luck has been the huge factor. Marineford, Law just happens to decide to go there on a whim which he said himself and he survived Kizaru's attacks which he said only luck could be a thing.

In fact, I'll just say this one thing, when the Gorosei spoke of the Nika Nika DF, they said things just happened to stop them from acquiring the fruit. When Who's who was escorting the DF, the Gorosei said it's like the DF purposefully escapes them... and what happens to Who's who? Shanks appears out of nowhere and steals the fruit, I mean how convenient no?
And these actions of divine luck are also consistent with Luffy, so at least, I think a fair argument could be made that this GOD DF actually has some power of luck associated to it, I don't think it is unreasonable.

We also have an instance where Saturn has said "If your FATE(Luck) is strong enough to escape this situation, let me see you try". It is so weird for anyone to have this much luck, it makes the most sense if this is a DF power imo.

Apparently the Ancient Robot woke up 200 years ago and climbed up Mariejoa, so I do wonder, was there another Gum Gum user 200 years ago? Or did the Robot only become active 200 years ago with the energy it had left from 900 years ago?
I am looking forward to fuiture chapter.

It would be so wild if Luffy gets stronger the more people believe in him. He'd pretty much be unstoppable, lol.

lol makes no sense that WG goes to such lengths to erase Nika from existence. But just lets the Nika fruit or its fruit user (Luffy, pre-Yonkou or even now) just roam around carefreely without taking any strong action.
In fairness, luffy didn't really give the government any breathing room here. Luffy's career as a pirate has progressed ridiculously fast, the first part of the story was one year at the most, then he disappeared 2 years and upon reappearing he pretty much wrecked the underworld in months. Let alone that in the first part of the story luffy invaded impel down, ennies lobby and suddenly appeared at marineford. Realistically speaking every major WG asset in the planet tried to destroy luffy and couldn't. And luffy's bounty has always been way higher than luffy's real worth and has continued to increase dramatically even past the point where bounty increases are supposed to be difficult altogether. For the gorosei who have been around for perhaps hundreds of years this must all be a blink. I am also guessing the gorosei don't mind the gum gum fruit that much as long as it isn't awakened.
