People who are interested in the newest graph showing the share of digital sales of manga in the Japanese manga market, HERE YOU ARE

There is a graph on this link, but I don't know how to put it with the link INSIDE the forum like you all do. Anyway, if somebody can repost it... yoroshuu~

And there is a new documentary on tokiwaso, the dormitory for young mangaka who want to become pro here

All in Japanese of course, but I explained the graph in English in the link above. Not really hard to understand though.
The documentary is mad cool and inspirational

The difference is so big for digital vs paper. Seems like the best for an mangaka is to focus on magazines that also heavily supports digital market

This probably has to do more with pride than innovation, but WSJ should definitely work on the digital side for marketing

Like: Use this QR code for Hima-ten! to buy the digital ebook for exclusive bonuses !

But I believe it will happen after one piece is over. WSJ just want to keep their trademark ongoing, because Jump+ is already a thing

Ok, now we just need this on an individual (series) level. If we’re going by this, would it be safe to assume that every series in Jump (or for every series with digital releases) has at least 2x the number of digital sales ratio to Physical sales?

Digital Market share being more than double physical now is crazy, I guess that means Jump+ series are probably doing a good bit better that it seems like from the Shoseki estimates (since them being primarily digital manga means sales will already likely lean towards the digital to begin with, hence a series doing 3-4k physical may actually be selling as much as 10k total).

That also explains Roboco's circulation number in comparison to the physical sales we know of, it's probably selling at least equally digital.

Kinda funny now that the “Muh Digital Sales” crowd now have very legit basis to argue upon. A decade ago, or even 5 years ago, this wasn’t the case, but now it’s very much important to keep in mind.

Yes, digital market sees the most sells BUT it depends regarding of the genre. And it depends on the plateform too, what sells on it, the readers who are on it.

Not sure. I'm researching a lot on this, for obvious reasons, and it really depends (genre etc.)

No. Circulation numbers are the end all be all and for WSJ series, the ratio isn’t that high. At best it’s 1:1 for EluSam, and a bit lower for SakaDays and Blue Box.
In general, battle Shonen still skew physical going off of circulation numbers.

Do you know how much of the profit from digital sales is going to the mangaka? Is it similar to paper?

To write more in details, all digital plateforms like Line, Sorajima etc sell exclusively (or near) in digital and they sell genres like isekai, TSUUUUEE!! for male readers and isekai/revenge etc for female readers. Readers watch these when they have time, just for fun etc. Called manga light consumers.

It really depends on the title, demographic etc. Young readers (without credit card) will buy printed (or pirate) and places like libraries, manga cafe etc will buy titles in printed too.

Nobody has the right data, excepted publishers themselves, so it's hard to tell...

I don't have the chart on me, the the HxEros creator over in Jump Square put out an official breakdown of his income and physical and digital sales work quite differently.

They actually get a little more from the digital version (since with Physical the cost of printing is taking some), but physical sales are more reliable since they get a lump sum all at once when the copies are printed while digital sales come in more slowly as each individual person buys their copy.

Here's the link, it's from a few years ago so some things might have changed (especially in regards to the physical:digital ratio) but they get 10% of the price of the physical books when they're printed, and a 15% cut of the total digital sales each month.

From what people have said that's pretty standard rates for publishing, publishers always take a massive cut of the profits for anything (though at least it's better than the music industry).

It depends on the publisher... Some give 10% even in digital (same in print), others... NOTHING (it's litterally a scan but there are some of them).
Sorajima is one of the good for digital, you have their chart here: Royalties are about 10% distributed between the authors, the fees are 20 000 yen/chapter. Not by page, by chapter.
There are other digital plateforms that pay 10 000/page, but I saw 5000 yen/page...

I haven't seen 20 or 30% yet. Maybe it exists...

If ya wanna include extra payment for nemu, does that depends on the magazine or are there instances were they scam couple mangakas in the same magazine, while the others do get payed from nemu.
