Yeah… I wasn’t expecting much from the color page, but the repurpose there for the volume cover feels a bit cheap… makes me wonder if Ono just doesn’t like doing colored pages as much, or is feeling crammed. Cuz it’s either that or they just have no idea what to do when they get a color page and default to drawing girls in default poses.

Still though! That means the next wave of volume covers should be coming soon if we’re seeing this right? Perhaps get a look at Kiyoshi #2 as well among other things?

lol yeah, crazy chapter ending, it can either extend the manga or just be resolved next issue, but the color page didn't mention series but arc climax, curious to see what will happen...

Don't take it the wrong way, but is it possible to forbid this kind of messages? (Or at least put them under spoiler tag)

They have literally zero utility. If the chapter is so cool, just wait until Sunday to say it. Moreover you can't even discuss the details so why?

Are you afraid that the readers of the manga will stop reading? Then you can just wait until Sunday to tell them to continue.

You want to make new people interested in the manga? Just promote it in a way that don't disturb the current readers who wait legal release of the chapters.

I don't read Yozakura so I don't really care about these messages specifically. But it happened several times on this thread that people were hyping up Astro Royale chapters for example. They made my expectations high just to be disappointed by a just-good chapter that I would have appreciated more if I hadn't read people telling that it is a "crazy chapter" beforehand.

Maybe I am the only one here to think like that but it is just my opinion. Commenting leaks can lead legal readers to expect more than they should or even spoil them because they know what these comments could imply. So, according to me, in such a thread they should at least be under spoiler or forbidden.

Mediocre, but cute. Inoffensive overall. I'm just curious what the reason for the reused art is.

I don't say much about Nue's Exorcist anymore because while I still read it the DNA of the series and what its fans like about it is such an antithesis for what I enjoy in anime/manga that my body simply rejects it. But it's obviously found its identity in a way that has improved its quality over time. I'm not as offended by its existence as I was once and it wasn't the worst of the magazine for me last year - progress! But saying that, it does stem from the first chapter being genuinely atrocious. Many of us rightfully mocked it back then because it was embarrassing and so overly cliche. Happy for anyone who did find enjoyment despite the initial reception, which has lingered enough that it's tainted how many think about the series even if it has gotten better.

Anyway, I also remembered the discussion a few days ago about how Akane-banashi's anime could boost it, related to the Kagurabachi source. Got me thinking about where an anime would take it and unless it's a shit adaptation it has a relatively high ceiling for a boost imo.

While I'm not setting my expectations to anything ridiculous I think it gains to benefit a lot compared to other series when getting an anime because it is about rakugo - it inherently will come to life more through voice acting that will make those big scenes hit harder. And of course seeing the shifts in art style between the real world characters and those from the stories they tell. If it's got a good staff behind it then all of those performances are a chance to get very creative with the presentation and contrasts. The opportunity is there.

And yeah, Akane herself is not objectified for the pleasure of Awooga Awooga fanservice, thank fuck. She's given the exact same treatment as her male counterparts in the magazine and embodies many of the classic shonen main character tropes and desires that resonate. Part of the reason why she is so easy to root for is that she feels like a likeable 18-20 year old girl navigating this world, not a projection of ideals of a specific character archetype that so many female characters in animemanga often must fall into in order to appeal to otaku bases: she’s not a tsundere or kuudere or yandere or deredere or a childhood friend love interest relegated to the being a moon that circles around the planet of a much more bland male main character. She's great because she's the type of person you'd want to be your friend, and I don't think she needs to be visually exploited in anime form to gain new fans.

On the other hand it must be said that there are plenty of hot boys in Akane-banashi. Kaisei, Rokuro, Maikeru, Koguma with his hair back. And now young Shiguma and Issho. That's where the opportunities for fandom engagement, shipping, merch and the like can be expanded on, ala Haikyuu!!. It also feels like the series in the magazine most appropriate for a live-action adaptation which could potentially attract a different audience. Sooooo hopefully 2025 gives us what the series needs at this stage.

Ditto. Happens what feels like nearly every week where we get some mention of how hype or crazy a development for Astro Royale/Nue's Exorcist/Undead Unluck and now Mission: Yozakura Family is. JJK and MHA too was like dodging minefields if you really wanted to be unspoiled. I don't think it's a crazy ask to apply inline spoilers to these sorts of reactions for hype and build up to these chapters before they're released. It's like if you're re-experiencing a story with a friend who hasn't seen it before and there's a bit of information that hints towards a big twist or revelation later on and you explicitly tell them: "You have to pay attention to this moment right now, it's really important!" - building up expectations for something in others is kinda an indirect spoiler in of itself, especially if it's not even available to read yet.

And like Chamo says, the other thing is it is just a bit eye-roll inducing when fans of particular series do hype up chapters pre-release week-on-week only for it to be really not that big of a deal once it comes out. Often it has the opposite effect of dampening the impact for those who aren't fans in a permanent state of hype about it than if it actually were more of a surprise. You don't wanna be the boy who cried this week's leaks are insane and change everything. Let the glaze run when it's there for all to sample, I say.

Well actually the next chapter is maybe one of the best of the entire series so far, the way this flashback is tying everything back to the foundations of the current time period is incredible. (I haven't read it but I'm pre-empting my actual reaction when I do)
