Do people really like the recent one piece movies? I don't like how cameo and reference heavy it has been since stampede. I thought this and Film Red were downright terrible movies. It's full of gimmicky bullshit to sell the movie instead of just writing a cool story.

I miss how good Strong World and Film Z was. Strong world had the best chemistry depiction of the strawhats since Robin joined the crew and Film Z had a cool ass villain that was like the main character of the movie. Movie 6 was cool too if you just wanted something different.

I would take either a canon movie (not happening) or a fanletter like movie over anything like stampede and film red.
I’ve only seen Film Red and quite enjoyed it as it’s own standalone thing for what it was, but it is true that the only notable takeaways from it relative to the One Piece story were the Figarland namedrop and the tease of Shanks being found in a chest, all of which was shown in-series in the past year. Oh, and the rest of CP9 returning as CP0 for the fun of it I guess. It did feel a bit forced with who they chose to include in the movie for sure, but I wasn’t taking it super seriously, just a standalone emotional story with a lot of music. And while I didn’t like all of the songs, some of them are really really good.

That being said I would definitely much prefer something like a full Fan Letter film than the usual formula of original shenanigans. I do think that the smart move would be to not even try to top the box office of Film Red, since that did big numbers on account of the Shanks branding and I don’t think that’s something that can be chased again so soon without fumbling. Now would be a good time for a less visually marketable but really good idea in my opinion.

They should re-do PSYREN from the moment they told Iwashiro to wrap things up and finish/rush it. Let he tell the story as intended! It was amazing!
The best thing that could happen is if we get a 3 season or 4 season 25 episodes each of an anime director's(mangaka's) cut style of the intended story. I'd donate a kidney for that

Honestly just surprised Gonron Egg ranked that high, like it's inevitable it'll be axed but this is funny to me. If Otr lives another batch I'll also be amused but I won't be really surprised anymore I think. And Psyren is happening so that KHR reboot is coming soon..............hopefully....................

Congrats to the Psyren fans who complained until it became a reality. It's a series I read around that time I started following manga seriously and it didn't resonate, but the fact is still does with so many people to this day makes me want to give it another go.

Another really good issue. I have to admit, I think I kind of... like Gonron Egg now? 8th is a pretty whatever first rank and I think it's going to die before too long but I also wouldn't be mad if it didn't? The last three chapters have been solidly good and that's almost half the series at this point. I went back to the first couple to refresh why it was I detested them and it's all still there; I think it's just a case of a newbie author learning on the job and now I really like the action sequences, the pace it's established recently, the drama between the Drakarch and even the artwork is occasionally impressive - the monster designs especially are a standout, feels very early The Promised Neverland. The rest of that batch continue to entertain, so I'm happy.

Kaisei stealing the spotlight again in Akane-banashi; the weaving of his backstory with the performance is soooooo good and the drama is so delicious. Now a team up with Akane and a realisation of how much closer they are than she thinks seems on the cards. Can't wait for this next arc that's coming after this performance of his. Issho remains a good as fuck villain, a delicious bastard who makes complete sense in everything he does in the name of the art and in his name. I'm glad Sakamoto Days also managed to find some spark after some pretty-good-but-not-great chapters for a while now, right on time for the lead colour page and anniversary (hmmmm). Me & Roboco was actually my favourite Sakamoto Days chapter of the week though, such a fun parody. Need more chapters where authors provide their artwork to lean into the parody (like with Kentaro Yabuki).

Hima-Ten! really feels like its hammering home the celebrity life of the girls around Tenichi; it's basically the main point of the series and how they all navigate professions with personal relationships - and then you've got Honoka. Which makes me think she might actually have a glimmer of a chance despite so many red/amber flags for her position in the story? Is the point going to be explored exhaustively until Tenichi and the narrative circles back to the normal girl next door winning in the end despite the popularity and buzz and star power the others have? Here I am giving myself hope. At least now Kanna's had her big moment. She'll obviously stick around and be annoying as always but she's not a serious contender, even if the series will probably delude us into thinking there's a chance by way of her desperation to get Tenichi's focus until he finally nips in in the bud (or in her case, the tits).

Harukaze Mound and Otr of the Flame might be at death's door but we got some seriously cool artwork from both this week, maybe of their entire run. Little victories, I guess? Elusive Samurai is ramping up to what feels like going to be a climactic finish. I'm sat.

Top 5 of Issue #2:
1. Akane-banashi
2. One Piece
3. Kagurabachi
4. Me & Roboco
5. Sakamoto Days
All good:
6. Ichi the Witch
7. WITCH WATCH
8. Blue Box
9. Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits
10. The Mage Next Door
11. The Elusive Samurai
12. Gonron Egg
13. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

Also quite good:
14. Hima-Ten!
15. Harukaze Mound
16. Someone Hertz
17. Otr of the Flame
18. Shinobi Undercover

And also:
19. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi
20. Nue's Exorcist

People often vote for the new thing in the first couple chapters, because it's fresh. Ch 10-11 is generally where we see the series' real popularity reflecting in the ToC.

Fully agree. Gonron’s ranking doesn’t surprise me at all since the first chapter wasn’t abysmal and showed a few neat things amidst the clunky pacing and art. From here we can expect the series to drop down to bottom 3 in a couple issues, and things will be in their natural state.

Psyren TV Anime is officially announced in the Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #3! The studio is Satelight!

Ageha Yoshina: Rikuya Yasuda
Sakurako Amamiya: Mayuko Kazama

Director: Katsumi Ono
Series Composition: Shin Yoshida
Character Design, Shiro Okuma
Music: Takashi Oma, Tatsuhiko Saiki, Kanematsu
Production: Satelight

Iwashiro Toshiaki message and new illustration:

"It's being made into an anime! I'm happy to be able to tell my parents and family this, something I wasn't able to do 16 years ago. When young creators and anime producers greeted me with blazing, passionate eyes, saying they loved Psyren and read it when they were teenagers, I'm so moved and grateful to see those people now adults... and involved in the anime adaptation. I hope everyone can enjoy Psyren! I was involved in many aspects of the script, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the Ageha in action!"

This needs to be a full adaptation, not a condensed "try to tell it all in one 12 episode season" thing.

They make anime for Psyren, but not for Kagurabachi
I'm here waiting for Shinobi Undercover.

I hope Shinobi anime can change Aoi's expression. Pretty much the only thing keeping me from touching it

I made a joke back than that Bones announced an adaptation and somehow it was taken seriously, I was even quoted, I felt bad for all the people who hoped for it to happen. I wonder now what years they will use cuz now there are a lot less payphones than 20 years ago
I mean, If Clark Kent can adapt with no payphones....

I didn't care much for Stampede tbh (though it did do something the manga hasn't done for a while, which was highlight Usopp, so it has that going for it) but i quite liked Film Red.

That being said, Strong World and Film Z were both better imo. Film Z especially, is by far the best OP movie (along with Movie 6, buti'm only talking about the Oda involved ones lol).

Film Gold was solid as well. Probably on the same level as Film Red to me.

Basically for me it goes Z (Movie 6) >>> Strong World > Red/Gold >>> Stampede.

Jokes aside the disconnection between how Nue is treated by the editorial in the rankings & color page stuff to how is treated outside the magazine is crazy, pop up shops with merch that quickly goes outsold, whole web game just to promote a volume release, now a official line of perfume based in the characters? not to mention how is basically the 3rd most talked Jump series online alongside OP & Kgb, all before a anime is even rumored to happen, but if you're going to judge based in how its placed in the ToC you would think is just a small "mid to bottom" tier series, meanwhile a series like Shinobi looks like a big star in the making lol
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

An interesting lesson about the success of Yusei Matsui, coming from Matsui himself.

lol there's a Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi big character standee alongside OP & Roboco in the Jump build? That's kinda random :grin

Not disagreeing because it's something basic, even Bakuman talked about how "1st chapters would usually get 1st place in the surveys" (which i'm sure is just Ohba being over the top), but at the same time we had Ping Pong Peril starting in the bottom 4 despite all the praise online.

Well, Iwashiro commented that he is involved in the script, so i'm sure it's not going to be a 1:1 adaptation
