Well, this looks quite different from last week.

Votes #3:
1) Akane
2) Nue
3) Shinobi
4) KGB
5) WW

Akane: God of Death Duel Duet does sound memorable (I wonder if it rhyms in Japanese as well?). It's really nice to see them grow a bit closer here, without pretending it solves everything.

Nue: This kinda felt like a mix between Kaedegami and Ayakashi Triangle. Nice little story. The series has been quite entertaining lately.

Shinobi: So they're keeping her sibling 'hostage'? Looks like the political marriage will be off the table soon, since I can't see her staying with that jerk for much longer if she has any alternative.

KGB: And now he has to deal with his creepy uncle. Poor kid can't catch a break.

WW: This got real serious all of a sudden.

Ichi: Seems like overkill to use a rocket launcher when you could've just stabbed him 10 times, but still, I'm impressed. And a little bit concerned.

Modulo: Good on him for playing along. The fight still feels kinda pointless to me though, because I can't believe they couldn't have reached middle ground with proper negotiations.

Kiyoshi: Real stalker mindset there. Though she is really strong, so it isn't just vanity.

Mage: I have questions. Like, how do you become a mage? I kinda assumed there was some kind of test, or that they picked up children with an aptitude for magic, but these losers don't seem like they'd pass any of that. Also, why did the boss guy immediately blow his cover? There was no reason for him to do that. Is he just stupid too?

Otr: Is that the Ice King? If so, the story's definitely gearing up to end.

Quick thoughts (have to read JK and Shinobi still) before I review things for real:

Nue went into a direction I did NOT exprct at all with Gekka and Soranaki and it makes them that much more interesting already. The lore reveals and characterization were so good it is crazy...

Gonron's first fully on screen fight... Is awful. The art and composition is a mess.

Osoegawa had ABYSMAL writing this week, not sorry. Easily the series' worst, behind chapter 4.

Modulo and Bachi were great.

Ichi was cool, I like Gokuraku doing his thing, but man is progression slow lol.

Hertz is great as always, I really like how Yamano appreached Mimei and the Koshien.

Since the resident Nue's Exorcist fans here gas up the series every week then I'm going to do the same for Akane-banashi because what a satisfying read that was.

It was noticeable seeing the lack of Akane's usual chibi jokes as she's mulling over the reality of spending time with Kaisei, someone who she mistook the facade he puts up and didn't realise just how similar they are. Having majority of the chapter manifest into this easy, casual conversation with someone who she actually could have gotten along with a long time ago before eventually landing on the sour note that drives them apart and how that establishes the angle of next arc in the approach to the same story was so simple but expertly done. A perfect set-up chapter that again highlights that Akane - the one who is the protagonist and who you'd think is the most angry at Issho and wants to take him down - is the one embracing his style of rakugo, while her rival is actually angrier at him than her and wants to tarnish the special thing (Shiguma's Art) connected to him that Akane is actually sincerely seeking. And he has the storytelling approach that she's abandoned in the name of adopting what Issho is teaching/expecting of her. It makes me wonder if/when the time comes, is she going to go back to that more personalised way and how is she going to wrestle with that flip? In part it feels like she's a couple years behind Kaisei not just in talent but also on the trajectory of getting back at Issho. Every new competition or set of performances in the seires pretty much becomes my favourite but the set-up for this Isshokai has been especially fucking good.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo's best chapter yet as well this week. The whole first half was genuinely devastating and those double spreads were pure hype. The short runtime of this really ups the drama and stakes in a way the final arc floundered. Love it. Kagurabachi also doing a bait and switch in a somewhat expected but brilliantly presented way. The escalation of the Hishaku very quite late-game but now the scope of the series feels that much larger as this is absolutely not wrapping up neatly with this current fight; it's giving Aizen at the end of Soul Society, shaking up the status quo thereafter.

I didn't hate a Kanna chapter of Hima-Ten! That's progress! We got a hint of a resolution which will remain her fate forever, before giving the reader enough expectation that she's not going to give up, which I expected. In a reality where Someone Hertz was an U19 series to be cancelled, this feels like the beginning of the end where Mimei doesn't make it to the Listeners Koshien but aspires for it next time, with the series wrapping up as he supports Mizuo in this one, with a final page of them promising to keep making jokes together in a semi-loving way. Glad it won't wrap up there though. Some grim backstories in Shinobi Undercover and Otr of the Flame, and Gonron Egg went back to being not very good with some shoddier line art and overly expositive dialogue. Felt like we were making progress for a bit there, shame. Another strong issue overall. 2026 off to a really good start. Hunter x Hunter, when?

Top 5 of Issue #3:
1. Akane-banashi
2. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
3. Kagurabachi
4. Sakamoto Days
5. Ichi the Witch
Another batch of very good chapters:
6. Me & Roboco
7. Shinobi Undercover
8. WITCH WATCH
9. The Mage Next Door
10. Blue Box
11. Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits
12. Someone Hertz

Doing their thing (in a good way):
13. Otr of the Flame
14. Hima-Ten!
15. Harukaze Mound
16. The Elusive Samurai
17. Nue's Exorcist
18. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi

Ehhhhh:
19. Gonron Egg

In the last 5 years Jump had 23 old series (if i forgot someone, mention it) getting anime adaptations, be TV, movie or OVA, broadcasted or just the announcement:

-Bleach
-Captain Tsubasa
-Cat's Eye
-City Hunter
-Dragon Ball
-Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai
-Fist of the North Star
-Gintama
-Hell Teacher Nube
-High School! Kimengumi
-Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run
-Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
-Muhyo & Roji
-Naruto
-One Piece
-Psyren
-Rising Impact
-Rurouni Kenshin
-Saint Seiya
-Sand Land
-Shaman King
-Slam Dunk
-Yu-Gi-Oh!

What series you guys think (or wish) will be the next to receive a new anime?

What i want:

Toriko:
Anime will complete 15 years in 2026, Toei is all happy doing remakes of their series so who knows, Toriko is definitely one of the Jump series who needs a remake the most, is such a amazing battle shounen, just imagine what current Toei could do with the series without having to censor it and with good animation.

To Love-ru Darkness: To Love-ru series will complete 20 years in 2026 and the Darkness manga hasn't been fully adapted, so i wish there's something next year, maybe the promised 3rd manga part too

Beelzebub: Anime will complete 15 years in 2026, i know is very likely never happening but man, a Beelzebub anime faithfuly adapting the manga and with good/decent animation would be so good...

Mx0: Series will complete 20 years in 2026, how about a anime adaptation like Psyren is getting?

What i think it will happen:

Dragon Ball:
The original anime is completing 40 years in 2026, something is 100% getting announced, in fact there's already a tease of a announcement for the big DB event in January, it will either be S2 of Dragon Ball Super or a remake of the original Dragon Ball.

Yu-Gi-Oh!: The original series is going to complete 30 years in 2026, i really doubt they going to left this big of a milestone go without notice, in fact i think a remake/reboot of the Duel Monsters anime fully adapting the original manga has a really good chance to happens.

Saint Seiya: Series is completing 40 years in 2026, there's no way nothing happens, specially with how active the franchise still today, Toei is probably going to announce something, maybe finally the Next Dimension anime?

Black Cat: Anime completed 20 years this year, there's a active Twitter account suddenly created 2 years ago just for the anime celebration, so i still think there's something going on behind the scenes just not announced yet.

D.Gray-Man: Anime will complete 20 years just like Reborn, i find hard to believe they will not gonna do anything for the series, this one i think it should get a remake due to not having the most loyal anime adaptation out there, but thinking about, wouldn't make much sense to do a remake for a series that still going for God knows how long.

Mr. Fullswing: is going to complete 25 years, so who knows...

Hikaru no Go: Anime is completing 25 years in 2026, they have acknowledge the anniversary but so far nothing yet, feels weird how a big hit like this hasn't got anything for 20+ years.

After the anime fiasco, I doubt DGM will ever have anime again as long as the author doesnt want to talk about it

Pretty good (just short of great imo) issue for this week, Modulo and Kagurabachi are so head and shoulders above everyone rn it's not even funny. Sakamoto dropped its best chapter in months (maybe this entire year) for me, like this is a very logical progression and it makes me happy. Akane is also so so good, I really do wish it was in a different magazine sometimes because I feel like Jump is holding it back from the attention it deserves...but who knows. Fun stuff from the newbies (minus Gonron which I dropped), like I'm really rooting for Osoegawa and Hero/Demon to survive! RIP Harukaze and Otr though, the latter really was growing on me with these past few chapters but guess it's all for naught.

Issue votes:

1. Kagurabachi
2. Modulo
3. Akane
4. Sakamoto
5. Hero and Demon Lord

I remember watching the Beelzebub anime every week, and even at 12 years old, I could see that the anime was very bad. I wish for a remake but probably it will never happen 😭
I would love a Magico or Mx0 anime too, I can see maybe Mx0 receiving one but not Magico lol

WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP ISSUE #3 (2025) - AUTHOR COMMENTS!

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo (Yuji Iwasaki)

Consecutive weeks with color art is challenging, but I think Akutami Sensei was drawing just as much as me.

Ichi the Witch (Shiro Usazaki)

Virtual Live PQ was awesome! I love Mamebu!

Sakamoto Days (Yuto Suzuki)

Out of all the frozen meals, don’t you find frozen pasta to be really high-quality? Yummy!

Akane-banashi (Yuki Suenaga)

My second child was born! Yay! I’m so happy! I’ll have to work even harder both for work and in my personal life!

Someone Hertz (Ei Yamano)

I got a humidifier that produces smoke that looks like kurage (jellyfish). Small jellyfish pop out, and it’s so cute!

Shinobi Undercover (Ippon Takegushi)

I tried to change the batteries on my intercom, but the screws were so rusted I couldn’t get it open.

Witch Watch (Kenta Shinohara)

My best buys of this year are a silk cardigan, a neck-relaxing pillow, and a Doraemon T-shirt.

Kagurabachi (Takeru Hokazono)

I watched 100 Meters. The long take in the middle was so cool that I couldn’t stop smiling.

The Mage Next Door (Hideaki Nabe)

Watching Kuwahara make a diving catch from the stands was so exciting that I became emotional.

Blue Box (Kouji Miura)

I went to a Galileo Galilei concert. Hearing “Toriaezu Imawa” was the best.

Hero Girl and the Demon Lord Call It Quits (Matsuri Hatsubina)

I was surprised that the trains don’t have a winter schedule. But I guess it doesn’t really snow here.

The Elusive Samurai (Yusei Matsui)

I asked AI if I could live just on milk and spinach, and it suggested adding eggs to the diet.

Gonron Egg (Shuhei Tanizaki)

My body can now only be satisfied by videos of large dogs and kittens being friendly.

Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi (Shoichi Usui)

I’m so excited for Mega Dimension. Who knew the swamp that is Pokémon was so deep?

Nue’s Exorcist (Kota Kawae)

The fourth new choco egg had a figure of someone round who looks cute sliding.

Me & Roboco (Shuhei Miyazaki)

I thought my coffee maker was about to break, but it recovered a little after I gave it positive reinforcement!

Hima-Ten! (Genki Ono)

I’m so sorry for all the trouble I cause my editor! Thank you for everything!

Otr of the Flame (Yuki Kawaguchi)

Predator: Badlands was so good! The design for the transportation mech (?) was awesome!

Harukaze Mound (Kento Matsuura)

I’ve been getting manga recommendations from my assistants since starting this serialization, and I’ve read so much!

Decent issue, all things considered
Nice to see Sakamoto getting back to business considering how meandering the manga has been since the year began
Congratulations as well to JK Yuusha for being the only good gag series to launch since Chojo

Actually, I'm not sure it's great for short term, because from what I've heard, they have to go into debt to hire enough assistants to keep up with the schedule and prep. Maybe with all the money prep and exclusive contracts mangaka are at least not in debt from the start... I've heard that they need at least 1 year of publication to get back their money (but I think it was in general for weekly, so...).
But anyway, even if they don't get rich, it's a great line to put in your resume. It's easier to find work elsewhere.
BUT. It's totally depressing as an author to see that your series is not liked and readers are demeaning you, each week, saying "why is this series not axed yet???".... That's why they say "don't do ego search" (don't know the term in English).

I didn't know for corporate. I don't think it's the case here, because they'd prefer every series to be a hit, not cushions for the others. It costs a lot of money to make a series. I think they just don't have enough mangaka they deem able to publish in their mag. They're really looking for hardworkers, like 12-14 hours a day, no vacation, stress like hell AND that can make manga that sell. There is denatality and the young gen doesn't want to work too much (I taught some of them French lol. They were so like French students, like "I want a job with lots of vacation but with high pay", actually, it was fun).

Actually, they may be in a more desperate situation than shonen mag (IMHO), because shonen mag is bessatsu and magapoke at the same time, so they can shuffle mangaka here and there easily, but jump henshuubu is not the same as jump+...

EDIT: I'd like to add: I think you may underestimate how much time, energy and all go into making a series (scenario, structure, all the designs etc.). This prep work takes time and a lot of effort, and if you have to throw it after 24 weeks to begin again from scratch.... Scary as hell for a mangaka.
I was half joking. But thank you for the information, which helped fix my ignorance of the topic.

Ichi: the point of the rocket launcher was to roast the squid. You don't want to eat it raw
