Issue 12 2026 chapter reviews (very mixed feelings this week):

1. Nue's Exorcist: Natsuki's Command Energy being high was well known. It being THAT high is insane. If she had more directly offensive abilities there would be no conflict, literally a Hyo in human form gunning for any antagonist. It feeds into the theory that there is in fact a level ABOVE the Hyo and we will be approaching it eventually. This is also partially how they'll be defeating Soranaki and the rest of the Hyo: Natsuki's the "ammo", and Gakuro the gun. I am really curious as to what role that Soranaki eye (what I presume it is) that Yokaku collected will play. I think it will be what allows Gakuro to directly interact with (and channel?) electricity. Either way I am HYPED!!
Soranaki's lack of empathy is genuinely crazy, I know that was the whole point of the flashback's ending, but literally EVERYTHING he's done since the festival has been for the purpouse of breaking Gakuro, and Nue by proxy, so them just saying "NO" to all of his bullshit is just cathartic. Reina herself has been such a standout, going from an untrusting, reserved girl to fully trusting Gakuro to save her and saying it in basically the devil's face just to not give him any satisfaction. The character development for her in this arc has been so, so good, and now it all culminates in THE SECOND HYO BATTLE STARTING GRAHHH 25 PAGES AND A COLOR PAGE INCOMING!! The fight against Suzaku was so goddamn good and now we have Soranaki!!! Hype/10, Kawae does it again! Fully expecting the fight to turn tragic halfway in too.

2. JK Yuusha: Between the little gags and cuteness that is usual of the series, little by little we are exploring more and more of Demon Lord's inner desire to be human and normal, which given his age is honestly kind of tragic, something that you don't get by the tone of the series. I love the slow switch from Asuka wanting a normal life to her helping DL get that as well. Shame it won't last much longer.

3. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: The spreads of Yuji absolutely owning Mahito were gorgeous, hype, and yes, AURA. It is especially satisfying the more you picture the struggle Yuji suffered in the original series, it's like divine retribution. Beyond that, I like that they tackled all the implications of removing CE from the future generations, they aren't making a risky decision without accounting for all its factors. Maru's technique DOES feel kinda REALLY plot convenient but hey, it is what it is.

4. Kagurabachi: The end of this chapter is great, showing how Chihiro is finally not viewing the world with a closed off view based on his father's legacy, but rather it with his OWN eyes (literally and rethorically). It circled back aroumd the very first page of the series: the blacksmithing. They won't defeat Soga with the weapons of old, ones made for the war, but rather the blades of a new generations created with the intent of stopping the carnage. More Entens in simpler terms. This is great and all, and it makes sense that we are heading into a whole different part of the story. ...However, I have gripes with this chapter, particularly one that has been a constant complain of mine with the series. We got NO break after the fight. Just skipped 4 days ahead, got news on how the world is doing, the hint that Samura could come back (which I'm not a big fan of) and right onto the credits for part 1. Surely I can't be the only one thinking it was too sudden right? That we needed one chapter inbetween? And I am a Nue fan mind you, I am USED to sudden developments.

5. Kinato's Magic: That "All you can do is smile" joke is hilarious, I love the faces in this manga. A fine introduction chapter otherwise, Kaminagi's hot and the yuri vibes are fun, I do hope we see a more concrete goal soon though. I quite like the Iron Fangs so far, and the Fairy Tail vibes are stronger than ever!

6. Someone Hertz: I hope these people stick around REGULARLY like I asked last week. It was nice getting a Kurageless chapter for once, it does feel like Yamano wants to have Mimei in the spotlight more recently. I will have to see if their personalities play off as well as Kurage's does, because the series really hinges on that I feel. I do like Mimei's awkwardness and really relate to it though.

7. Alien Headbutt: An alright second chapter, definitely much less exciting compared to the first, the artwork wasn't as impactful and the more I think about the three months thing the less it makes sense. Still, there is still the energy I praised, so I'll still look out for it.

8. Ichi The Witch: I really want to be moved by that last page, I really do, but god I am just tired of this arc. Bakjam as the solution wasn't something I expected and it didn't move me regardless. The one thing I am still looking forward to is Dess' status, so please let us get back to her.

9. Under Doctor: If he knew sign language all along ("because I'm a doctor" lmao shut up) why did he not answer BEFORE? Given his status as an underworld fighter as well he could not have been SO stunned by sign language to FREEZE, come on. The action is still whatever and the overworded speech bubbles are still distracting. Also, what is up with the CONSTANT title dropping? I get it, this series is called UNDER DOCTOR.

10. The Mage Next Door: You mean to tell me the Evil Mages™ were from the Evil Mage Country™? What a twist! The explanation of the past conflict was so badlu rushed too.

11. Gonron Egg: I weep for Tanizaki man, look at that last page, just what happened to them??? I cannot justify putting it higher than Mage with art quality THIS horrid.

Ki-oon has MHA, JJK, Akane-Banashi, Erased, Orb, Beastars, Golden Kamuy, Kindergarten Wars, Apothecary Diaries, Pandora Hearts, Phantom Busters, Ubel Blatt, Valkyrie Apocalypse... and many other things. It's one of the biggest publisher in the french market.

Btw, the information in the tweet isn't exact, Ichi the Witch is the best start of ki-oon, but it hasn't surpassed frieren overall sales, just vol 1 sales at launch. Frieren did 10K at start, so Ichi just surpassed that. Frieren has obviously more than that now with 15 volumes. I think it wasn't clear in Mogura tweet lol.

Ichi is really big in France rn, many ads everywhere, even on TV, or at bus stations. Crazy.

Yes! It's at Crunchyroll, but this publisher changed name several times, at first it was Asuka, then Kazé, then Crunchyroll and then Kazé again since this year. Kill Blue got acquired when it was named Crunchyroll. At the same time, they also got Nue's Exorcist! And overall as a publisher, Crunchyroll/Kazé has Kaiju n°8, Dandadan, Chainsaw Man... etc
Oh and also, they just announced Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi recently!

I gotta say, the glazing of Ufotable by anime fans is crazy. Don't get me wrong, they do good work but everyone acts like they're the only studio that could do a good adaptation

In less than 24 hours of them saying they're going to announce something (prob Genshin or Demon Slayer) I've seen tweets of people theorizing for it to be Nue or Ichi. Hell, if Cygames and Kagura hadn't leaked, it'd probably be being talked about too.

Anyway, reviews. I see a lot of people here like Kinato a lot, but it hasn't really clicked for me yet. Under Doctor and Alien Headbutt do better, but I'm waiting for the stories to pick up speed.

Shinobi: Using the floor to attack while multitasking? I like it. And then the capable, reliable, ambitious guy goes fishing for praise because they're still kids and this is what sets them apart from how the other side treats their ninja. Nice touch.

Kiyoshi: ... I had considered quite a few different outcomes here, but somehow the chicken going supersaiyan wasn't one of them.

WW: Interesting development. I'm glad they were able to finish what they started last time, but this could turn south very easily... That's assuming the story is even true, of course, because why would he say he left it with her if he knew the other guy was fake?

OP: Good, good! Everyone knows the only way to beat an indestructible toon is through another indestructible toon. I wonder when he made a new friend? And where's Loki? Or is the friend Loki? It is, isn't it? He's still got the bandage on his left horn.

Ichi: Good job. I hope that last page isn't permanent. (As a sidenote, I wonder why the English translator is suddenly using gender-neutral pronouns for Puu? They didn't do that in previous chapters. The French and Spanish version don't do it either.) Now back to Desscaras and her little zombie brother.

Hero: I've said it before, this guy is way OP. And way too chill. Ridiculous as it is, this chapter made me laugh out loud again several times when I shouldn't have, because there was someone sleeping upstairs and that's a feat.

Doctor: I hope she never works for an employer who isn't capable of slicing bullets. Fun chapter (though I'm starting to think this might discourage kids from going into medecin because the amount of things this guy can do 'because he's a doctor' is getting downright ridiculous).

Nue: I'm almost feeling sorry for the guy. His Big Beautiful Plan got completely annihilated.

Alien: It does feel slightly weaker without the shock factor, but the story is still moving nicely and the characters work for me. I can see the Dear Anemone comparisons, but that last bit reminds me of Gonron Egg too (not a bad thing, the premise was never the problem).

Gonron: I like the characters in this too. It's nice to see them all just hanging out in this chapter. And honestly, the core story and ideas aren't bad either. The art and the pacing need some work, but I do hope this mangaka will come back (maybe with a biweekly series in Jump+, because they do seem to need more time to finetune everything).

Akane: I like the series, but her moments of insight always sound the same to me.

Mage: Suddenly we're facing representatives of the villain country. Normally I'd applaud the shift to more serious enemies, but in this case I'm afraid it spells the impending end of the series.

KGB: So we're doing a time skip then? Could you at least tell us what happened to Hikaru, Uruha and the rest?

BB: Are they getting married? Is that what we're waiting for? Because we know they're a couple by now.

Kinato: I don't like him either. Or her. Seriously, why is everyone in this so keen on hurting people? (And how does she know what colourless looks like if he's the first person ever to get it?) Happy to see them go on a quest straight away though, keeping up the pace is important, especially for an adventure series.

Modulo: And now the hobos are beating each other up while speaking gibberish. This was definitely never meant to be a standalone series.

Also it sounds like they're planning to genetically modify a whole bunch of people against their will, so, uuuhm, yeah. If I feel tempted to draw a little moustache on your 'heroes', that's not great.

And after 5 years we say goodbye to The Elusive Samurai, it was a great run! We also say goodbye to Otr of the Flame & Harukaze Mound! And say Welcome to Under Doctor, Kinato's Magic & Alien Headbutt, good luck to the 3!

And we also got some movements, it maybe temporary until Hunter x Hunter returns but for now Nue's Exorcist finally reached the 1st tier!!! And Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo & Someone Hertz already reached 2nd tier!

It's kind of crazy that a series with 21 chapters made it into the second tier.

It's even crazier to think that Gonron Egg will probably make it there, too, if it ends after JJK Modulo. And Mage Next Door and Hero Girl after that.

Then again, now that I think about it, Otr, Harukaze and freaking Nice Prison all did the same thing, so the bar has been on the floor for a while now.

It's crazy that place 8 is bottom 5 now.

It's a full 19 page chapter. Pretty much entirely new illustrations as well, so I'm honestly not expecting a cover unless next week is also an extra chapter and is considerably shorter

Bonus chapters are often made in advance, so this is probably still a break week for him.

And Alien Headbutt chapter 3, in my opinion is definitely better than ch2, had more interesting things and nice surprises, pacing is good too, some details in spoilers for anyone curious:

-Shirokiba and Haruya already find the place with a group of humans in the eggs, they're all alive but the aliens who were securing them are dead and torn to pieces
-One of the humans is Haruya brother
-We are introduced to a new alien, a "mega gorilla" one that makes the aliens introduced so far looks like minions
-Shirokiba already attacks the alien but gets easily owned, still the chapter ends with a aura moment of him being badass and saying he will kill the alien because of Haruya brother, seems like Haruya brother helped him when a kid against some bullies.
