I think HunterXHunter will only return when either Blue Box or Sakamoto Days ends.

You literally said yourself the reason why (you think) he failed, he wouldn't be here independent of the batch, he flopped in the rankings from the start and got axed, that's it, i do agree that they could have given it a extra batch at least but it was just a matter of time until it would be axed because the series just didn't worked in the surveys.
I'm not arguing it was unfair or anything though. Just bringing up that later batches dropped the bar enough he would have a better shot.

I don’t know how people deny the fact that MamaYuyu would’ve lived if it came out today. Volume one sold as well as Shinobi and higher than Kiyoshi, and also had major stock issues that everything Nue and below didn’t have, given that reprints also made a decent splash on Shoseki, it might’ve grown more than Shinobi.
He's easily the axed author they should be working to bring back as fast as possible considering the sales and reception. No offense to him, but seeing Amemiya coming back first instead was hilarious. If Omusuke Kobayashi also shows up before Hayashi, lol.

Currently on chapter 3 of my Nue reread, and I will be forever amazed at the incredible foreshadowing in this series

"Oh, and there are also the before and after parts of EXTRA GAME! Be sure to read them!"

What does he mean by that?

Otr can survive 34 chapters while selling 2.5K, heck Mage Next Door got a better ranking than MamaYuyu ever got while being a catastrophic bomb. Jump can’t even replace Kiyoshi which doesn’t even rank that well anymore and sells significantly worse than the rest of the roster. Even if MamaYuyu ranked bad it would’ve lived, 10K sellers are so rare for Jump these days ( how we’ve fallen lmao).

People can argue about how quality killed MamaYuyu, but it clearly had an audience. I think Kiyoshi’s a terrible series, but I also know it’s not going to be axed. Even if you thought MamaYuyu was a mess, it would’ve survived.
The Shonen Jump from 2 years ago is no different than the Shonen Jump right now lol MamaYuyu could start right now and it would still be axed if the rankings were still as bad as it was originally, it's not the volume sales that saved Shinobi or Kiyoshi, is the survey votes, in the case of Shinobi it was well received from the start and Kiyoshi skyrocketed with Asuta Roth introduction on ch19, Jump doesn't care if your manga sell 14k copies with the 1st volume if survey votes are shit, and it was the case with MamaYuyu, they still kept for 1 round, and could've kept for another one in my opinion but MamaYuyu wouldn't be here going for it's 3rd year if the survey still as bad as it was, simple, in a imaginary scenario where the author suddenly pulled a Asuta Roth type of character? maybe, but that's a whole another talk.

I'm sure Kiyoshi with the worst sales in the magazine, the worst digital performance, no internet comments, no fanart, no merch is the unbeatable survey king. They axed two anime series to keep it, there's no way to look at its rankings in an objective way, I'm sorry.

Kiyoshi isn't running in place of another hit, every new series since which has outsold it is ongoing, and it has significantly outsold every cancelled series which started after it two or three-fold.

That said, Saito hasn't had a good selling early cancellation yet to directly compare to MamaYuyu, so we can't say for sure how he'd treat it (Chojo sold less than Kiyoshi and was even declining, and Kill Blue had also declined in sales significantly).

You're purposedly being over the top and silly to try make a point, no one here is saying Kiyoshi is the "unbeatable survey king", no series needs to be that in order to survive in the magazine and everybody knows the ToC order isn't a 1:1 of the actual survey results, so what's the point? Like Tirakai said, Kiyoshi isn't preventing any bigger series from running in this magazine lol

If Saito can rush a manga from a big veteran with a anime adaptation in production and 15k+ sales he surely will have no problem in axing a newbie with a decent first volume sales but pretty bad ToC placements.

A little reminder that Matsui thanked the people who voted for The Elusive Samurai in the survey polls in his final author comment instead of the readers who bought the volumes. I would think they're more important especially for new manga? Not gonna act like I know a lot about it lol

They are more important, it's a well known fact Shonen Jump is a "survey" based magazine, of course sales are important in the grand scheme but if survey votes are bad it's going to catch you sooner or later, that's how we have cases like PPPPPP which was axed in just 70 chapters despite selling 30k in a month, or cases like Phantom Seer selling over 20k copies and axed without mercy.

You implied it was impossible for Mamayuyu, a series that sold more and had a bigger digital presence, to beat Kiyoshi in surveys. My point is that you're overrating how well it does for it to be "impossible".

And no one here was arguing to axe Kiyoshi, I even said before they don't have enough hit series for it to end. We were saying it's easier to survive now than it was just a few years ago. I think everyone agrees with this.

That said, Saito hasn't had a good selling early cancellation yet to directly compare to MamaYuyu, so we can't say for sure how he'd treat it (Chojo sold less than Kiyoshi and was even declining, and Kill Blue had also declined in sales significantly).
No one cancels series with upcoming anime like this. And this whole incline/decline argument keeps being proven as a failed strategy. Kiyoshi never grew to be bigger than Kill Blue and probably still lost to Chojo considering how its digital sales are null. Now, sure, no point in axing it anymore, but Saito seems to be overrating how important growth is to series like Kiyoshi and Shinobi.

It's damn frustrating knowing we will not see any of this reflecting on Shoseki, i don't know how there's not a single backlog volume appearing lol

MamaYuyu deserved to be as famous as Kagurabachi

and i dare to say that if it had survived it would be in front of KGB
I'm probably the like one person in this thread who didn't like MMYY.

I just find this sentence funny cause it basically reads to me "If MMYY was more popular it would've definitely been more popular" lol. Like, if all of Jump existed at once, should it have lived over Kyoshi? Probably, but I legit see no indicators of how it would've been the most successful 2020s series so far (if we think KGB is going to be more than SD and BB).

Thinking it's better is fine, opinions aren't scientific, I like Kinato and Alien more than UD even if that's not how audiences are reacting, but I have no idea what indicates it would've blown up per say

I didn't said it was impossible, i said that if the series ranked pretty bad 2 years ago, it will not magically survive now for "reasons" if keeps ranking like that bad, and there's basically nothing that points that the series wouldn't have the same reception, it's literally the same people reading the magazine now that were doing 2 years ago lol

Also, you probably don't remember but the difference between MamaYuyu and Kiyoshi were minimal:

MamaYuyu #1 (12,490) - 17 Days
Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi #1 (10,996) - 17 Days

It's 1,494 copies of difference, it's nothing, and before "but Oda helped", Gege helped MamaYuyu when JJK was at the top, so there's no excuse here, both series got helped by the top 2 of the manga industry at the time, and we know digital presence doesn't mean anything if the series isn't popular with the actual readers, i even threw a bone saying that if Hayashi were at least able to pull a "Kiyoshi vs Asuta Roth" development maybe things could be different with the survey rankings.

After 24 hours, Roku 1st chapter views on Jump Plus are....shockingly low! 55k??? Seriously i'm shocked with how low it is:

For comparison, some former series views in 24 hours:

Kaedegami (118k)
Otr of the Flame (106k)
Someone Hertz (100k)
Under Doctor (100k)
The Mage Next Door (78k)
Alien Headbutt (67k)
Gonron Egg (68k)
Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits (67k)
Ping Pong Peril (62k)
Ekiden Bros (56k)
Roku’s House of Oddities (55k)
Hakutaku (40k)

Obs: Didn't put Kinato because i only have the 2 days numbers, 107k

How the hell this is doing less than Ekiden Bros? for any other series i would already call it a flop and that's it but It's so weird, the reception is pretty positive and it's from a author with a former series super popular online, i'm just confused lol

Thankfully not everyone reads the magazine online so It is probably killing it with shared magazine readers and people sharing their phone screens.

i think that most of the discourse is because at least in the beginning, MMYY was ranking similar to Kagurabachi, even when it was on the bottom 5, kagurabachi was also on the bottom 5

So i think they were a little shady
