The whole industry is down because of the economy. Jump's own issues seem more editorial than anything, like how they late they're for anime.

Do you know any reason on why they got greenlit and will be airing before a Kagurabachi anime? It still makes me impressive.
Well HSF is in Live Action, so that can be done quickly, and Chojo is a gag manga, there really isn’t that much when you do animation on a series like that, so there is a possibility. Kill Blue did stump me, but it did come out in 2023, and it’s written by an established artist in Fujimaki, so it did have the time to be produced and released.

Kagurabachi on the other hand is much more of an effort that requires, time, effort, money, and a lot of man power to animate and get right. So there is a good enough reason for it to get one much later than those other three.

I’d say we actually got quite a lot in the previous decade. Just look at Kimetsu no Yaiba, Jujutusu Kaisen, Boku no Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man and others. That’s a ton of interesting titles, and honestly, some of them could easily have been published even in past golden eras.

But in this current decade I don’t really see any major title emerging yet, and we’re already past the halfway point. That’s concerning.
So you’re saying this decade in the 2020’s?
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Also the Saito slander is getting pretty high recently, I want to ask Shinuki for a poll and ask everyone if people are satisfied with Saito’s leadership as EiC.

My votes for Issue #18 of 2026:
1. Blue Box 236
2. Witch Watch 242
3. Ichi the Witch 76

4. One Piece 1178
5. Hima-Ten! 84

6. Akane-banashi 200
7. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi 86
8. Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits 19
9. Shinobi Undercover 75
10. Alien Headbutt 8
11. Sakamoto Days 253
12. Under Doctor 10
13. Someone Hertz 27
14. The Mage Next Door 20
15. Gonron Egg 21 (Final Chapter)
16. Kinato’s Magic 9

Despite my rankings all the chapters in this issue were good.

Sakamoto:
Some good banter this chapter. The civilian administering first aid and giving him a charge was random. Though, I’m okay with there being a random defibrillator. The reason being that some public places in Japan have portable defibrillators. Also that only got him to 15%?! Dang. Also battery icon was funny. The final 2 double page spreads were awesome.

Kinato:
The arc is already over? Maria has no loyalty! Lamia’s hormonal comment about Talius that she just threw out there was wild and it made me laugh. The panel of Talius’s owl carrying the fireworks(?) was kinda cute. Although the setup, climax and conclusion of this arc happened to fast for my liking, the firework moment was still pretty cute.

Blue Box:
Manipulator Chinatsu wasn’t something I was expecting but it was definitely funny. God, the interactions with the previous 3rd years and Haryu’s monologue were so good!!! Taiki carrying the pressure was amusing. Nice Hina fee and Chinatsu stretching callbacks.
He said the thing!!!! Roll credits!!!! God, I didn’t even realise we didn’t get the title yet. This chapter was sooooo good with some cute moments.

Witch Watch:
So that’s why he dresses like the devil. At first I thought it was one ghost but rereading the chapter made me realise that there’s a punch and a ghost that harms whatever it passes through. I wasn’t really worried when Keigo hesitated because of Agro because I thought he figured out how to make a crescent with his hands. Didn’t expect the tattoo. The outfit looks better on Keigo. That was a cool final double page spread.

Under Doctor:
Cool colour page, didn’t expect her suit to be blue. Thought the title was going to refer to a doctor. Kong’s fake beard reveal was pretty funny. Nice world building this chapter. He must have some patience to climb up all those floors.

Alien:
This chapter was really good. The strategies and the fighting were really good. His declaration of what kind of wrestler he is was really cool.
He said the thing!!!! Roll credits!!! The final double page spread was cool.

Gonron:
I was wondering why a warning appeared on manga plus for this chapter but that final Reigoku scene definitely deserves it. Ohma definitely has thick thighs. Cool castle design. So that egg at the end is definitely Agito’s child, right? Also the last few pages were sooooo interesting!!!

Akane:
Kendama’s little sign for attention was really cute. This is why you don’t go around spoiling stories like a jerk. That double page spread was pretty cool. And that last fully white Akane panel was cool as well.

HimaTen:
God, this whole chapter was good! From Kanna’s monolouge at the beginning, her reasoning for the pseudo confession, her reason for liking Tenichi, her actual confession and him rejecting her confession. These moments were goooood!!!! The dialogue in the last to pages were especially good! I really liked how they handled Kanna’s rejection & confession and her transition to a losing heroine.

Hertz:
Some nice banter from Mimei and Mizuo this chapter. That little scene of her poking her head out of her window was cute. Her folder of important stuff was cute. That surprise message she wrote was really cute. The answers for the prompt were pretty good.

Mage:
Didn’t expect Mini-Magus to help. I liked the dialogue between them in this chapter. They’re both doing the Harry Potter strat of (pointing their wands as hard as they can) attacking. Thought it was going to be a basic shield but this means I was half right, he did have magic that reflects magic back. Despite this being the second to last chapter and the series most likely ending abruptly next chapter, I still really liked this chapter.

Hero Girl/Demon Lord:
Subspace assuming her mom was dead was amusing. The page of her appearing from Subpace was soo funny it actually made me laugh out loud. God, her mom’s hot!!! Skull… joke? Organ joke? Despite only getting a glimpse her alternate outfit seems pretty sexy. Didn’t expect her mom to be that powerful or for Demon Lord to be actually terrified of her. Subspace you forgot to cover her other ear. The mom’s personality and design are sooo good!

Shinobi:
Hibari learning that technique was pretty cool. But Kasasagi’s bubbles being a perfect counter to the mild is even cooler. This new weakness just cements the Uzen Kekkai as just an inferior version of Gaara’s power which disappoints me so much. Kasasagi’s demands panel was cute. Dang OP lay off your squad! Finally, after being gone for most of both this chapter and last chapter, Suzume finally reappears!!! Those last few pages are definitely worrying.

Ichi:
Seeing a bit of the morning routine was pretty cool.
The first time I read this, I read “turtle shell” as “turtle neck”. Is Moneygolds assistant Circos male or female because I’m unsure? Either way, I now ship them both together and now demand their wedding!!! The fashion department really can’t resist Ichi can they. The last few pages between Ichi and Desscarass were really cute and sweet!!!!

One Piece:
Nice to see Killingham still in pieces. Imu, I don’t think Loki can hear you right now over the lightning blast. Ratatoskr’s face on the side of the hammer was really cute. That’s a perfect block of ice. I liked how Loki had to change form to hit Imu. I liked the little montage of the different ways everyone’s putting out the fire and of the many citizens still having hard feelings toward Loki due to his many other legitimate crimes. Nice to see that couldn’t get rid of all the Reversi Giants in one try. Also nice to see that the theory that Biblo saved the books is most likely true. Maybe Sommers original heart is his actual weakness and he placed it somewhere for safekeeping while getting a mechanical replacement. So Imu’s most likely going to Elbaf.

Kiyoshi:
The fighting this chapter is really good! Didn’t expect this personality type or backstory for Bobo but considering who his dad is it makes sense. I like this new side of Bobo as a villain. Also it looks like ‘Black Back’ is a technique that draws in his power that he scattered into world in order to both revive and power himself up.

All this time waiting for the ToC only to get Under Doctor and Kinato's Magic in the bottom 6, why Saito???

The only positive thing for me in this ToC is finally seeing Nue color page properly placed far away from the bottom even if still the 3rd one lol

Ahh and so much for "Kiyoshi is in danger" in the jp forums, it just skyrocketed to freaking 4th place lmao!
Peakyoshi will stay 🔥🔥

But wasn't it the same as Sakamoto Days? I fear it might happen to Kagurabachi too.

I think it is safe to say that whenever a Kiyoshi anime airs, it will blow up and stay on the Top 10 sales. Might even surpass circulation numbers of Kagurabachi and others.

Honestly, I really curious to see how things will be when either or ends in the future. Cause frankly, the amounts of posts around either or series has filled the past and now threads most than ant other series. Its both impressive but kinda frustrating when one wishes to talk about any other series. But its kinda understandable at least. Although I hope nuesmoker remains here even after nue ending primarily cause the fellow knows how to play around and give some solid comments for other series despite the bias, which he admits without shame. Kinda jealous actually.
Honestly it does burn me out so all I got is some bait attempts (no one ever bites). I haven't been able to write much cause of work but I do think both can go far. I liked this week's Nue too since it resolves its arc cleanly without any abrupt feelings. But yeah, as much as Shinobi is Saito's favourite child, what else could he promote that doesn't already have enough support? Only Hima-ten comes to mind, really. Everything else feels like a death sentence for the author involved.

Yes, from 2020 onward. More specifically, post-pandemic.

Yeah, Ichi, Kagurabachi and Someone Herzt receive quite a bit more support than ever before but there are solid series that could go for years. Shining and Nue on the other hand? That is a coin flip, mostly cause on one hand the process in Nue is good, however with the way its going I could hypothetically see it dealing with 2 big opponents within its third year and in the forth it would be the final boss. While Shinobi, in all honesty, I could very well see it end by its third or second year and a half anniversary, mostly because its plot its kinda linear and has not really wowed me as it did before.

Also, can't help but say that Himaten is going a bit too fast on its developments that it kinda makes me wonder if it's actually ending by the end of the year with the way its going. Cause have not seen a romance series conclude such a plot like it did this year still.

If every new series is going to flop, then I might just stop reading WSJ. It's ridiculous that the latest batch has already dropped to the bottom of the TOC, and I see no reason to believe this new batch will fare any better.

I've said before that WSJ is just throwing stuff at the wall and hoping something sticks, but at this point, they're not even waiting to see if something sticks.

It happens to all magazines. But WSJ situation is very bad.

Anime doesn't guarantee manga success; Undead Unluck had an anime adaptation, but that didn't increase sales. The same goes for Yozakura.

True, but guarantee a big leap.. even is the anime is mid-quality (production side) because more people hear the name of the series and out of curiosity will buy 1 or 2 volumes

Yeah. That is why Kagurabachi should have gotten its anime already. But at least it may get one next year, I think.

Me too. I think Kiyoshi may speak directly into the heart of children, since it is really like One Piece at its beginning. I really think qe may have a new hit when the anime airs.

A big leap forward isn't guaranteed either. We were expecting something like that from UU and it didn't happen, even though the anime has high production quality.

I think you guys overestimate anime way too much.

A manga with an anime is a hit already for Jump, not everything is Naruto or Dragon Ball. You're the one underrating it. Both Undead Unluck and Yozakura are active IPs getting more seasons and merch even.

They also both got over 200+ chapters, why should their fans care about sales? They don't represent quality or anything.

I'll weigh in on the toc later but just saw this video — so cool to see a foreign born mangaka have a positive meeting with SJ (or at least shueisha) reps and get praise for their work.

It's not that we're overestimating animes... it's just that a lot of people are discovering a series through the anime and are losing interest in reading the manga since its debut
