I can understand that. So for my next question, I want to ask Shinuki what Japan’s thoughts are and if they feel the same way about Saito.

So many new new series have a lot of potential, man. If only they could get to the hook chapters quicker.

Kanna? I didn’t know she came all the way from Hima-Ten to cameo and support small-time series Blue Box on the cover… (I think you might have your rejected heroines mixed up)
lmaooo 😭 😭
for my defense i tried to convince someone that hima-ten! isn't getting axed like 3 minutes before writing that

Almost everything in Jump has 'potential', if they didn't think a series had potential they wouldn't run it. What matters is showing early signs that you'll be able to live up to that potential. Even the rare struggling series which did change their fortunes around and stick long term like Yozakura all at least had some higher placements early on, showing early that they can make popular content and it's just a matter of homing in on what works specifically.

They can't be betting the future of the magazine on series that start off dead under the hopes that they'll eventually get good at some point in the future (not to mention some series also only get worse as they go on even with a promising start, just look at Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins).

For example would Kaedegami have pulled off a fantastic arc given enough time? Probably. But how long would Jump have to let it sit at the bottom until that happened? A year? Two years? And by then, it'll have been at the bottom for so long that many will have already given up on it.

Is the Saito hate spreading? I just saw a post from a YouTuber complaining about the ToC and the treatment of the new series. Do people here also comply that Saito is the worst EiC WSJ has ever had?
It takes a lot for me to full-on hate how someone is performing their role, and given how I didn’t start tracking all of Jump until right before Saito and thus have almost no other frame of reference, he kind of just is the standard for me, and thus I lack expectations of anything better. Any perplexion I’ve had with his decisions has really only been bouncing off of the perplexion of other users in this thread who have that historical knowledge and grounds to make judgements on the different way he’s handling things.

I do think there are probably some moments where Saito is getting blamed for things that aren’t overtly his fault, or that any EiC would’ve done under the circumstances, but I won’t deny that some of the unique things that have happened since his taking the position have not been the fairest-seeming.

We never have a complete view behind the curtain though, so the only honest information we have about the true nature of Saito is, of course, his depiction in Me & Roboco, known for its grounded realism.

I think the potential thing is talked about a lot is because a ton of western readers got into manga and anime through One Piece, Bleach, Naruto and/or Dragon Ball, so the perception is already distorted by assuming very long series like this are somewhat common instead of anomalies in the industry, they're the 0,0001% that lasts hundreds of chapters. There's this idea of the first dozens or even hundred chapters are just the setup for a main dish.

But most magazine readers don't see it like this. Series that last this long are rare and most of what they care is voting for whatever they think is enjoyable now. If Jump series are boring to read now, with a vague promise that they'll get interesting later, they won't bother reading it. There are several dozen other shounen manga to read that may already be more enjoyable at the moment, no need to wait for years for them to get good.

I asked a similar question but I love the action adventure with cool worlds and powers. Is there any well received one shots that did that? I know the canvas one is one such case.

It sucks that it seems the key to a hit is having a cute girl with acceptable art or good looking dudes doing things.

I think bother roku and fireflies will be axed too. As another user said, I think under doctor could survive mission yozakura style especially if series like Sakamoto ends soon, but it just feels aimless and kinda scatter shot to me.

Ehh, is complicated to state for real but i could probably say that in my opinion he is at least the worst EiC since the 2000's, and it's not even about the series he has launched or the flops he has axed, that so far has been the standard, is the many decisions here and there that really makes him stand out in a quite bad way, but still just his 2nd year, we're stuck with him for another 5 years at most.

I can understand that. So for my next question, I want to ask Shinuki what Japan’s thoughts are and if they feel the same way about Saito.
They dislike Saito just like they disliked Nakano, one thing to understand is that in these Japanese Forums there is a lot of this "back in the day" attitude from jp readers, they don't understand or don't want to understand times have changed, so they hate in the administration since Nakano because in their minds it's with Nakano that Shonen Jump stopped being that powerhouse magazine that would release big hit after big hit with ease but the thing is it's not Nakano's fault, is the physical industry but these people don't care and they will keep acting like the only good Jump is from "back in the day", you will always read some saying "There's nothing to read on Jump anymore" on Matome only for them to be next week saying the same thing while paying for the magazine lol

It's funny because i remember reading many comments on 5ch and Matome of people really thinking that Saito would make Jump go back to the old ways only for him to be worse than Nakano :grin

I don't think it's wishful thinking. It's a harem series where a bunch of side characters have stopped showing up and one of the harem members got definitively rejected. It's only natural for most people to interpret that as the series getting closer to its ending.
Maybe for some, but many on social media and specially in the Japanese side simply think the series is about to get axed of the rankings which aren't even axe worth, the Japanese Forums just take the ToC placements way too at face value, this is how Nue's Exorcist is supposedly about to be "canceled next round" for like 2 years and they never change the tune.

But there is one thing i had noticed a couple of times that it seems to have some kind of hate behavior going on with Hima-Ten, i don't know, i feel like i see people being harsher than normal towards the series compared to other romcom for some whatever reason.

Personally, I think Himaten would actually benefit from ending soonish. These romcoms always overstays their welcome.
I can see it getting an anime announced the same time it goes out like kill blue and chojun.

Are there any editors that are a favorite to replace him if he left? I understand it’s a ways away.

Sorry i forgot to get the views from Drawn to the Fire after exactly 24 hours so i only have after 48 hours, at least we can definitely see it's performing quite better than Roku's House of Oddities:

Drawn to the Fire got 91k views after 48 hours VS 99k from Roku's House after 1 week!

It could be just a bit better but it's at the very least above all the big flops that it should be above, views are more in line with Harukaze Mound 1st chapter.

I'm interested to see what the Sorachi views will be, although I am a bit concerned that the readership for the other series in this batch didn't get boosted by a veteran being included. Iirc something like Dear Anemone got like 140k views only like 2 years ago, a decline of like 33% in that short of time is kinda huge. This might also just contribute to why some new series immediately tank, their already small readership gets smaller every week.

Any favorites in particular? I'm pretty interested in Shangai Ryujin & specially Blood Marriage, the art looks pretty and gave me some CLAMP vibes which is a super plus for me since i'm a fan and i'm still hungry for a vampire series being successful in the magazine.

Issue 20 2026 (Hero Girl And Demon Lord Call It Quits! full series review):

1. Nue's Exorcist: There is one thing I wanna bring up before anything else: the way this chapter is COMPLETELY structured to flip the characters' AND readers' expectations. The first thing we learn is that Kurikara is the next Hyo to fight, is the strongest and has the most powerful Hollow Weapon. We are also told by Gekka directly that she and Gakuro can easily take on any Hyo now. What happens then? They all get attacked before they can formulate a real strategy, the literal opposite of how it was with Suzaku and Soranaki. Then Gekka is put on the ropes, Kasha's the real resurrection this time, they are here to kill them all, no waiting, and Kurikara? Absorbed? His Hollow Weapon? Already revealed, used by Kasha. Every single thing that the reader could expect gets thrown out of the window and we are left as flabbergasted as Squad 6 themselves, like we are in their shoes.
And all of this because, get this, Raisei wasn't stupid. Squad 6 just killed TWO Hyo and now they got somebody who can put a Hyo on the ropes on her own- of course he couldn't just let them get such advantage.
Beyond this, I wanna single out a couple of characters, Gekka for starters. Whereas we saw how formidable and great she is in the last few chapters, a more negative side of her is highlighted: her arrogance and unwillingness to rely on others. She immediately assumes that the conflict may as well be over since she is there now, and singles out herself and Gakuro (with Natsuki as Moonlit Night's End as an unspoken crucial part) as the only ones needed. This, I think, is a result of all the people she lost against Suzaku, she does NOT want to go through that again. And here we see Gakuro actually push back against this mentality, in spite of his own tendencies to try and do everything himself. He is, once again, highlighted as being the same as Gekka, although with a different tone. This is why she softens up on the idea, she was in his shoes at one point. And speaking of Squad 6, it seems like them not doing much against Soranaki the last arc might have been more intentional than first thought! Or at least, something Kawae acknowledges and wants to rectify. Either way, very glad it was brought up.
Now for Kasha. His design change is... Interesting. It makes sense, absorbing a whole different being WOULD transform them both, and we've seen Kasha morphing during chapters 94 and 95- But I would be lying if I said that I liked this adult design more compared to the original one. There was a unique contrast that the younger looking Kasha was when put against the mature Nue, and just in general, it felt more unique to him and more pleasant looking. But there is one core factor that is kept: the freakiness. Kasha's always been the more "monstrous" of the Hyo, the least human of them all, more demonic in nature- and he kept that factor in this design, which actually gets increased by how unstable he feels at the moment, something which I wanna highlight because it brings us to Kurikara's status! Yes, he's been absorbed by Kasha... But for how long? The first thing Kasha says to Gekka is "Pardon me." After covering and changing his mouth back to normal. And to summon the Black Dragon Sword he has to SPLIT HIS OWN HEAD OPEN. Kasha's CLEARLY not in full control here, and it becomes more obvious when you actually look at the legends regarding both him and especially Kurikara. Kasha's a Yokai that steals corpses, and Kurikara is a literal sword, so their current roles make sense just with this, but then you see the specifics of Kurikara, the way Fudo Myoo defeats the heretic, a dragon, is by becoming a sword. The dragon wraps around the sword, but is ultimately overpowered- in short, following this version of the legend, I truly believe that Kasha will fail to contain Kurikara, and die in the process, but only time will tell. Kasha's character is already interesting by default here because of what he did, consuming the oldest looking Hyo while being the YOUNGEST looking. He once mentioned his own hatred all the way back, but where does that stem from? And does it relate to Kurikara and the sword? Only time will tell...
Last thing I will praise about this chapter is, once again, the visuals. I need to know what kind of crack Kota smokes to vizualise things this way. The sheer creepiness of Kasha dancing with disembodied hands, right after walking down stairs made of demonic corpses, and mutilating his own body to attack and eventually summon the weapon that isn't even his: something that looks less like a sword and more like a spine dripping blood 4-5 times his own size: genuinely just insane, over the top chuuni stuff that I cannot get enough of! 11/10, ABSURD start to the arc!

2. Drawn To The Fire: ..Color me surprised, but I really liked this first chapter! It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it does great in what it sets out to do. It took no time for the characters to stand out from each other, Keiki's admiration for Hana feeding into his own complex, Natsu's recognition of his own limitations in spite of everyone hailing him as a prodigy, and Hana's own kindness showing us why Keiki's so hung up on that promise. All of this solid character writing is also accompanied by, guess this, GREAT VISUAL CLARITY during the game, during any piece of movement really! There is something about the paneling that makes it so easy to follow, which I CANNOT say for some other recent spokons in the magazine. Please for the love of god, keep this UP!

3. JK Yuusha: Full series review!

I am not gonna pretend like it was high art, but there was a genuine effort here to make something cute, yet moving at the same time. The relationship between Asuka and Demon Lord was consistently the focus of the series and I am glad that it was. We saw the simple banter between them, the more tragic reveals later on, and the way Asuka became the true final hero inhereting the first's wish to save the Demon Lord by turning him back to human. In spite of this deep speech I am giving, it is a comfy series through and through, the art is soft, the designs are cute, and the pacimg is calm. The jokes don't always land, which is a pretty major flaw, but it doesn't stop me from considering this a solid series and by FAAAAAAAR the best of its batch, if that even needed to be said. 6.5/10!

4. Someone Hertz: Cute! A nice callback to chapter 1 and finally we see MOMEI.

5. Kagurabachi: A nice action chapter, not much I have to say. Good pow pows.

6. Roku's House Of Oddities: As I expected, the curses are now enjoying some modern world entertainment. The playing together moment was actually pretty nice! You can see Roku warming up to them a bit already.

7. Ichi The Witch: I guess the worldbuilding brought in by the magikeepers is... Nice? There is a more complex side to Mantinel, or rather the surroundings of it, but I am still very miffed on the lack of ACTUAL witch screentime, and now introducing a #BOYSONLY group on top of that is just... I mean Ichi reuniting with his teacher seems like a decent plotpoint to look forward to.

8. Under Doctor: Okay, not to encourage suicidal tendencies, but like... Drowning? Suffucation? Poisons? Like there are many ways to die other than force. The bit of him actually following the advice of love is a nice touch but it is yet again a chapter I can't care too much for.

9. Alien Headbutt: I am so uninterested in these new villains it is crazy lol. I guess it was inevitable to have speaking antagonists but still. The reunion was fine enough.

10. Kinato's Magic: Kinato's just Deku right now and it makes me so mad I cannot even lie. This whole recent development just feels so DERIVATIVE of other works, god. And this used to be the series of its batch that I liked the most, ugh.

2 & 3 are definitely the ones that I'm the most interested in, I would include 5 but it appears to be a redux of a one-shot that Amakawa did for Jump + in 2025...
Still glad to see them, though...

For me, I would say, based on some one shots I previously posted and saw, that am interested in Shangai Ryujin, Blood Marriage, New Year Day.

The first one shot in this batch feels like its going to follow somewhat the same plot as the one he made in Jump Giga Autumn last year. Hence why am not all that interested for it at the moment, could be proven wrong but we shall see.

The same for the last one, as it feels like its likely going to be the same case of copy paste a similar work and to slight adaptations for it in the magazine.
