I mean, nobody really thinks Double Arts is better than Nisekoi.
I beg to differ. I would say that DA was the superior work compared to Nisekoi.

I would also say that Hima-ten is the better work against Nisekoi. The former does what Nisekoi did much better. Nisekoi is just an incredibly average manga that doesn’t treat its characters like a person.

I'm sorry I completely wrote that backwards. I fixed it. Nisekoi being better would've made no sense with the context of everything else I wrote.

And I agree, Hima-Ten is far better than Nisekoi. In Hima-ten the girls actually feel like real people.
We Never Learn is also better than Nisekoi.

It's a shame because Komi definitely has the ability to write good characters. We saw it in Double Arts. It's like he was afraid to do anything interesting in Nisekoi, like he was afraid he'd get axed again even after he was already beyond safe.

That’s Miura’s influence for you. Ono working under her was a good opporturnity.

I'd believe that. While I liked Full Drive, the characters definitely felt a lot weaker than they are in Hima-Ten!.
Just a shame about the art-style shift. I'd have liked to see him refine that look. Even though it probably wouldn't have looked right for a rom-com. I was hoping to see him come back with a battle manga after Full Drive was axed.
Can't complain too much though, I love Hima-Ten!. One of my favorites in the mag rn.

Sometimes an axed manga is better or at least had more potential than the series the mangaka later got success with.
I mean, nobody really thinks Nisekoi is better than Double Arts.

But ya, Sensei no Bulge was not very good. I didn't really care for OmaZoo either tbh, but I appreciate how weird it was. He struck gold with MHA.
What you said just makes no sense in a objective way, there's no way you can objectively argue that a author flop manga axed with 24 chapters was better or had more potential than his worldwide successful manga with nearly 400 chapters, this go beyond personal opinions.

As much as i dislike a good portion of Nisekoi, Double Arts wasn't really better, if was it wouldn't have fumbled its early big popularity, it was axed for a reason which was Naoshi not knowing what to do with the premise of the series and losing fan support, the first 50 chapters of Nisekoi were actually pretty good for a romcom.

Objectivity doesn't exist when it comes to taste.

And that's why you can't objectively argue or proof that a flopped 24 chapters manga was better or had more potential than a worldwide successful 400 chapters one, but potential isn't measured by taste, you either have and achieve it by being successful & acclaimed or not, about being better or not, that's in fact personal taste, but you can do that about anything, i can pick that Togashi romcom series from 89 that no one remembers or know and say it's better than YuYu Hakusho or Hunter x Hunter, good luck to me in finding any other person in the planet that will agree or not want to shoot me for that :grin

You don’t have to prove that a ‘flop’ is better than a hit. It’s subjective preference and there’s no point in qualifying every statement with ‘in my opinion’ since that’s implied. The idea you can’t think a flop is better than a hit is the same as saying that sales equals quality.

Here’s apparently the ‘objective’ list of best manga ever based on that logic

And I mean, I wouldn't argue that for Wicked Cupid by any means, but it also isn't a bad series either. It veers off into some pretty interesting mystery horror stuff as it goes on, and the core romance is cute as hell. If someone believed that and could articulate their argument, I'd accept it as a valid opinion. Even if I disagree.

You're getting so heated over opinions bro, c'mon. You can disagree without getting all pretentious and rude about it.

The discussion isn't about manga who sells more is better than the one who sells less, it's about the notion that a flopped manga by X author is better or have more potential than the highly successful & acclaimed manga of the same author, we can say all day and all night that this is about personal opinion and yada yada but that's not how it truly works.

I'm not getting heated over opinions, is just that you shield yourself too much with "it's just my opinion bro", and some things don't really worked like that.

Yes it does, and believing in "objective quality" is pretentious as hell.

No, they're all my genuine opinions. I've said this about Illegal Rare and Shudan countless times here over the last decade.
Anyways, this argument is dumb and circular. I don't care how long something ran or how much it sold. We can debate opinions, but those metrics have nothing to do with ones opinion on quality or potential.

This way of viewing things is really depressing man, I don't understand how it's possible to think that no axed series ever had more potential than a successful series that came after it

Try applying this logic to any other media and it completely collapses, a lot of classic movies were box office flops and a lot of box office hits are mediocre, why can't similar situations happen in manga?

I mean, I don't agree with any of those.
However, if someone did and could articulate why they felt that way then they're entitled to their opinion.

Although Jumbor, Harisugawa, Kagamigami, and Hungry Marie are all good series tbh.

Manga is something completely different than movies, not comparable at all, if a manga from X author completely flops, it's not because is some secret masterpiece ahead of its time that the public couldn't understand at that moment, it's because the author was unable to write a good story that could connect with the readers, in most cases, a "bad" manga, if this same author returns 2/3 years after that flop and publishes a manga that become a high successful and acclaimed series it's because he was able to reflect about that, work in his writing and write a better series that connected with the audience, basically a good manga, that's it, i'm not saying you guys can't or should not think that everything is about "my persona taste", i have plenty examples of personal taste that isn't the general consensus but i know that's not how it really works in the grand scheme when talking about thing in general.
