Martial Master Asumi ended with Asumi fighting Some Guy™ before skipping past the entire tournament it was building up in the final chapter.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

GGG also ended with a tournament that the MC didn't even directly participate in.
Maybe my description of low stakes is kinda poor. I'm more comparing the vibes rn to Yu Yu Hakusho because that series (after offscreening that final tournment), just spends its last few chapters having SoL or individual character focused chapters. Like sure established series can do this (I feel like the endings of JJK and MHA sorta feel similar in this vein, its spending time with the characters for one last time, no need for conflict), but I'm wondering if any axed series just sorta spent their last moments in that sorta standstill. Tho I haven't read PPPPP or GGG to say if they also do this, I'd disagree that MMA did it, as it just kinda ended on a normal arc, with a flash forward. Rather than ending on like no real "arc" at all.

In that case yeah, GGG fits your bill. Without being too spoiler-y, after the tournament there's four chapters. One chapter of Yaesaki and Oga yapping, two chapters of Yaesaki playing a casual match and one more chapter of Yaesaki and Oga yapping. Dunno how many people were expecting it to end there but I certainly wasn't.

Main things of the last two issues: Akane-banashi ends this latest performance on a high; absolutely adored that final double spread. Now I can't wait to see what I imagine will be her being outshined by Kaisei - that feels like how it's going to play out and honestly I really want him to pullout the performance of his career to show that he's still a level above her and get back in his own way at Issho. As good as this performance was, I can see parts where it might be picked at for not always landing. And again, I love that we're seeing the God of Death story being narrowed in on so many times the point of overfamiliarity, making the comparisons between how each rakugoka does it that much more identifiable when we see them.

Under Doctor is kind of the winner for the last two weeks for me, landing in my top 5 both times. The Chiwako mall chapter last week was endearing (and also kinda twisted - let's not romanticise overworking too much, guys) and did a lot to make her that much sweeter and likeable as a character. But this week's chapter with Shuli was even better. Haiji had his big moment earlier when we found out about his failure in the past, but other than that his superpowers make him pretty distant in terms of investment, whereas this week the medical drama of it all felt real and dangerous, and Shuli doing what he did in a way that was impressive and informative all came together in a way that even exceeded the sweetness of last week. Kinda hoping these standalone chapters with their more low-key and focused tone are signs of comfort in its chance to last in the magazine, despite the low-ish TOC ranks.

Nue's Exorcist has been really good the past two weeks. It's in full battle shonen rawness mode, with a double spread slash this week that feels extra Bleach-y. Judging it for what I'm seeing, this fight and the reactions from Gakuro are pretty damn intense, even if I still feel the set-up to get to this exact moment was rushed. I also reckon it's a smart move to have the lead colour chapter be something so battle-oriented, which isn't that difficult to follow without prior context, for those who check it out at the front of the magazine.

I'm glad to report that Roku's House of Oddities did the damn thing this week, and managed to channel the Agravity Boys energy I've needed/wanted/longed for! No thanks to the oddities in question, mind you. They're still badly designed in their conception. In one chapter, the boys at the club have more personality, better banter, and funnier reactions than what has come in all the chapters before (Sachiko excluded, she's earned her place and focus). It feels temporary in the grand scheme of what the series will be about, but this feels to me like the humour that should have been around since the beginning. Back to the usual next week, I guess. :(

Class 2-B: The Hero Destroyerz going full action in the past two chapters is a good move, I think. The toilet moment actually was successful for me this time, too. Still need this to level up properly but this is a positive direction. And starting to feel like Alien Headbutt might be the only one ending in the next 2-3 weeks, and we may get a single serialisation (+ Hunter x Hunter, please... please? Please <3). Last week's chapter was especially egregious in pacing in ways that was as bad as Gonron Egg was at its lowest, but at least this week had a bunch of really sick monster designs (which I wish we'd seen much earlier in the series and not rushed for this specific moment).

Top 5 of Issue #24:
1. Akane-banashi
2. Ichi the Witch
3. Kagurabachi
4. One Piece
5. Under Doctor

Overall a rather solid issue even without the likes of either One Piece or Kagurabachi. Everyone was doing good.

I also agree that the series that is for sure ending for the next batch is Alien Headbutt.

Anyway, now to a brand new question for you all that I think its worth talking: Which is a rivalry, either recent or old, that you find to be both awesome but also solid in its writing.

I have never been able to give a solid answer towards this mostly cause their is the friendly rivalry and the more antagonistic rivalry.

Oh thats quite a quick turnaround? As opposed to KGB's taking like 8 months.
On that note tho, I'm betting on there being a Jump Press the week before then, and thats where we'll get our HxH return announcement (they'd need one to announce the anime before the issue leaks)

Under Doctor is an interesting series so far, it's very clearly set up like early Sakamoto Days but is showing completely opposite strengths. Focusing on medical drama and emotional cases I imagine would be much harder to write than a battle series, but I hope the author makes a real attempt at it.

Himaten clearly isn't quite done yet, it will be over fairly soon but definitely not in the next few chapters. I think one more batch is still a reasonable guess though with it going a little beyond ch 100. I wonder if it'll get a final chapter anime announcement, too.

I predict Hima-ten ending at Ch. 108 since that’s considered a lucky number in Japan.

Only thing is preventing me from calling Roku's House a success is the weirdly low J+ views because everything else is just really positive, the reception online is just leagues above the other 2 and the best since Someone Hertz.

Class 2-B comments online still pretty rough, you know it's not doing well, at least online when it took me a bit to actually read a positive comment on Twitter, and that's rough because Jp Twitter is usually positive, on Animesoku the threads about the series are not about the chapter but about mocking it, reading someone say this is the Chagecha of Reiwa it's crazy lol

I honestly don't know how will be the rankings of the series,i think at least the 1st chapter was pretty well received.
