Even so.

You guys need to stop overestimating anime by thinking that every anime will make a manga an absolute success.
Yeah. I know. Maybe the upcoming anime will not make up to the sharp drop on Kagurabachi's sales.

Ichi also experienced a drop in sales, almost all manga experienced a drop in sales, but you want to insist on Kagurabachi's failure because of a small drop in sales.

Then when I talk about Kiyoshi or any other manga that people on the forum mention, many complain.

I never said it was a failure. And it was not a small drop. It literally dropped 20% on sales from one volume to another. But I will not talk about since it deviates from the topic of Ichi possibly getting bigger than Kagurabachi.

Even though the manga still sells over 100k copies, but you want to ignore that. SO IT WAS A SMALL DROP, YES.

The problem is if the 'magazine' becomes less and less important to Jump going forward and the goal becomes to try and cultivate IPs that can become big money makers outside. Not an immediate worry, I'm not saying the whole magazine will be spinoffs of old series but the potential trend is a little worrying
The people taking care of the magazine still will have to take care of it, won't they? The point is not screwing it up thinking about unrelated aspects. They still have more than 1.5M at least in circulation every week with digital, and I would assume it's a higher number. The drop isn't as dramatic as Oricon numbers say.

Japanese companies can't just give up on their own markets because it builds internal dissatisfaction and may end up becoming employment issues in the future. Final Fantasy went hard on the west while neglecting Japan for almost two decades and the brand was basically obliterated among the japanese youth and now Square Enix has issues recruiting people to work on this franchise only a diminishing group of older people care about.

A Shonen Jump that gives up on new manga and new artists is a Shonen Jump building a more dangerous dam that breaks eventually when it's irrelevant among the youth. I don't think it's at that point because their new IPs still do better than the rivals and their anime do well enough. Yozakura Family is a good example of something that did well with younger audiences that weren't reading the manga.

Overall manga sales aren't falling; rather, the market share of the major magazines is shrinking. It's very similar to what happened with broadcast television in the US - in the past, if you watched a TV show, it was almost certainly on broadcast TV, whereas now... maybe 1 in 10? And yes, the average broadcast network show is still watched by more people than 95% of other shows.
Well, yes, these discussions always come from comparison from the physical market of today to the physical market of yesterday. It ignores digital when we know the circulation numbers for series like Akane-banashi and Nue are much higher compared to their physical only numbers. In fact, even Kagurabachi does much better than we talk about because we never move on from the outdated idea that Oricon + Shoseki = Total sales numbers.

There are more magazines, manga services, digital sales than ever before. The industry grows because people have options and that's not a bad thing unless you think 3 magazines should have a 90% market share. Numbers go down and that's fine, Jump still has the biggest new series average.

Since 2023, Sunday and Magazine's biggest hits sell closer to 20K physical copies. The idea that Jump is having a crisis is just out of touch with the new standard. Very rare few exceptions can go much above that, Kagurabachi and Ichi are anomalies in today's market.

Seems like there's some hate towards Ichi going on this week from Kagurabachi fans on Twitter frustrated by the dead last placements, calling the series a "Industry Plant" lol
I can't imagine what's more boring than Fans of Mainstream Thing A fighting fans of Mainstream Thing B over what Thing is more Mainstream and this happens all the time with manga fans. "Haha, your favorite manga is a flop, it's only the 25th best selling manga of all time". Do these people have no personalities at all? lol

lol this One Piece chapter feels so rewarding; I had been arguing with Zoro fans in 2021-2024 on twitter that Sanji would eventually get Conqueror's Haki. overall great chapter too

But it's impossible to judge, after all, Kagurabachi spent two consecutive weeks at the bottom of the TOC.

Even if the current arc is weak, it's an exaggeration to place the manga so low.

Sakamoto, for example, had people complaining about the final arc and it didn't end up at the bottom.

reminds me of how tiring it was back in the day with HeroAca vs Black Clover and people bringing up Black Clover for no reason at all. Or you go even further back when jump fans would fight Fairy Tail fans.

These fanbases were always insufferable. The Fairy Tail criticism being "It's just like One Piece" even though it's not even a continuous adventure manga. They also used to downplay the other series in the magazine like Kuroko no Basket, Nura, World Trigger, etc. One Piece, Naruto and Bleach fans always shooting at everything, I remember how annoying they were about Black Clover at the beginning as if Asta was the worst character ever created or the constant downplaing of Demon Slayer's success.

Most of the One Piece comparisons at the time were because many Fairy Tail characters were in fact a near rip-off of OP character designs, some of them are just hilariously similar lmao!

what ichi did is being better than kagurabachi
If Ichi were all that great, why doesn't it sell more than Kagurabachi?

And Ichi is even more often in first place than Kagurabachi

Obviously, more people want to collect kagurabachi than ichi.

so because it sells more is better? Then Kimetsu no Yaibe is the best manga in the entire magazine since 2020 😂

Without a doubt, Kimetsu no Yaiba is better than a lot of things currently being published in Jump. I don't know why the comparison is being made.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Quite a lot of people subscribe to the "sales == quality" mindset lol. Always wild to see
Are you one of those people who thinks Kimetsu was only successful because of the animation?

If it sold a lot, it's because it's high quality.

Wasn't it because of the movie? Most people didn't read the manga when it ran in weekly Shonen jump. Though people showed it sold way more after the anime came out and the manga ended than during its run.

Who really? Gildarts is similar to Shanks, but the anime made him look closer by making him a redhead, and he's not even that much of a regular cast character. Berserk and Dragon Quest are stronger influences on Mashima's designs.
