This.Is.Insane.
At this point I'm nervous that the series might become a victim of its own success. Hopefully the mangaka is not pressured by this monstrous demand.
EVERYONE interested in WSJ ranking and sales follows this thread. I bet a ton of anons, redditors, and Twitters user are lurking at this very moment, waiting for any (mis)information to drop then repost them on their respective platforms. Just see the current number of users and guests.
Not necessarily. I think Oda was taking the easy way out by only mentioning OP being first in individual volume sales, which is something all parties can agree upon. It doesn't mean he acknowledges Oricon yearly data, or deny it.
My bet is Shueisha will either adopt the same approach, or ignore...
Maybe Google Translate is doing a bad job again, but I don't see anything about Kimetsu ranking first? The article only mentions that Oda feels Kimetsu's huge momentum. In fact it looks like he's thanking readers for OP ranking 1st in individual volume.
I think we can blame Shueisha on the sudden bad blood. Everyone already accepted Kimetsu would be 1st this year, then Shueisha went and dropped the bombshell with their own numbers, effectively sparking a feud between OP fanbase and, let's be honest, people hating OP.
Edit: the memes are on...
In somewhat related news, Kimetsu LN also made it into top 10 of the year, with more than 400,000 units.

Honestly, this is inexplicable. After half a year of nonstop boosting, you must expect Japan has run out of new readers at this point. Yet apparently about 60k people pick up the series every single week.
There was one really significant event involving another country happening in that time...
So they announced Kimetsu has 25 million copies in print the day after they emphasized that it came second after OP with 10.8 million copies sold? I know it total print versus physical manga sales, but this extremely huge gap will fuel conspiracy theories or at least makes Shueisha look...
Putting aside how Shueisha came up with those numbers, will their reputation take a hit if Oricon ends up with Kimetsu beating OP and directly contradicting their claim about OP being number one for 13 years straight? Wouldn't it be an extremely awkward moment for them?
BC did get a decent...
Except that Neverland is ending, Haikyu and Black Clover are steadily declining, and we haven't heard about Chainsaw Man official sale number for ages.
But at what cost? Doesn't this equal to tax evasion?
Why not? Maybe this article is actually written months ago, but they left the yearly sale figures blank until now. They publish it now with the final number for yearly sale, but don't bother to rewrite the rest of the article, which are background info anyway.
