I agree. This year I have thought many times about how close the Kagurabachi situation has been actually from what happened to Ruri Dragon. Hokazono's workschedule is a disaster and is having many consecuences that affects his work.

The thing about an anniversary cover-lcp is that supposedly we have one drawing that could be portrayed as a lcp ready already (the one we saw in Jump Press, that Chihiro and Hakuri drawing that for an anniversary is plain as heck but it's what is available), so dunno what's going to happen with that.
Yeah thats pretty much my take. Like they could have easily done it where that artwork was put in front of a random chapter (I mean he spent the time to make it), but the series was not on the cover. An anniversary does not necessarily need to be on the cover, they skipped Roboco's last year.

I see a lot of talk about a Kagurabachi anniversary cover. I've said it before and I will continue to say it, this guys cannot currently produce a full manga chapter at this point and time, there is no way he can handle the added workload of a color page or Lead Cover Page. I know you guys hope and would love it but it's just not in the cards. Let the man heal up, it's like you guys want him to fail by having him do work he is not capable of doing.

I am going to Triple (maybe even Quadruple) down. Kagurabachi is no going to get a cover anytime soon. Let's shoor for a 19-page chapter first.

Under Doctor and Ura have both surprised me this week. I definitely do not agree with UD placement at 3 or that it is deserving of another CP so soon. Ura also doesn't feel deserving of a Color Page so early on. The fanservice is strong with that one tho and I am willing to say this one is not for me (like Somepne Hertz).
GreyKeith>>>>Ura with no color page. Jump is sick in the head.
Look tbh, I'd rather him skip out on color pages from now until the end of the series. It got really bad last year, when the color page wasn't even a spread, but a single page one. But idk if we're gonna see an increase in page count unless he starts getting regular breaks.
As for Under Doctor, I usually think the series is aggressively fine most weeks, but for any of its chapters to rank well, I think the start to the Brain surgeon arc is deserved. Thats when the series felt like it was hitting its full potential (meanwhile we're back in a battle arc and its gotten worse again lol). But considering the two major rises were the return of the doctor from chapter 1 (which is just a gimmic, you can't reproduce that consistently), and now when he started writing a good doctor arc with tension and adequate time given to the conflict, I think he has all the data to make the series a hit. Maybe not a major one, but at the very least, he knows what readers like, and what they dislike.
Also yeah Graykeith better live, hopefully we get a color page within the next few issues.

Why do you think he has an awful schedule?
I'm pretty sure Hokazono himself has admitted that he spends 6 days storyboarding and only actually draws up the chapter on the final day before submission. I know like nothing about art, even less about art under a weekly serialization, but that's always seemed kinda mad to me cause if anything comes up on that final day you're fucked.

Nue's Exorcist going from Lead Cover Page for the anime announcement back down to bottom 5 is rough. I am currently 5 chapters into Nue, I was not that impressed with the first 2 chapters, while chapters 3-5 have shown marked improvement and been enjoyable.
I am 10 chapters into Akane-Banashi and I wish I would have gotten into it sooner. It's the next Jump manga I will catch up with.

Kagurabachi is such a sausage fest we can't even find a girl to feature in bikini :XD
Your options are; Hiyuki Kagari, Chiaki Soga, or Iori Samura. Do any of them have appeal?
I just don't get the point. Do you guys think this arc is so hated the 150k seller manga (not even counting digital) is getting less votes than Animal Signal and Hal Formula that are barely selling 5k? I don't think that's even possible. And this arc clearly doesn't get a visible ton of hate to rank this bad. Some people may not like and that's believable, but it's not like Kagurabachi went from ranking 1 to 4 or something. It's last place this week.

We know for a fact he struggles with the schedule with all these breaks and reduced page numbers, don't we? So what's more likely to be the reason for the TOC placement? I think it's obvious it's his schedule as the main factor.
It doesn't even have to be the whole arc. The arc has had some good chapters but overall it isn't doing that hot. Even my own votes have Hal and AS beating KGB most weeks and I am one of the few who actually like this flashback arc. So if fans (and non-fans alike) really do not like this arc then it makes sense that Hal and AS are both raking higher.

See but is it hate, or is it apathy? I feel like its pretty likely that a large chunk of Kagurabachi fans just buy the volumes instead of reading weekly. And so, if that rules out a chunk of people voting for it, and the weekly magazine readers are just voting for other, more exciting series, then that explains the decline.
Flashbacks don't have to necessarily be hated to lose reader interest. People don't vote for them because it isn't what they read the series for, the main cast they know and love are gone.
God Valley (One Piece), My Villain Academia (BNHA/MHA), Alma Torran (Magi), and Everything but the Rain (Bleach) all blow a huge hole in this logic. They were all flashback or arcs that did not star the main cast that are arguably as good or better than what came before them. They all definitely added to their stories, which is what this current KGB flashback is doing. With hindsight I bet this arc will be received better (assuming he finishes the story one day).
How did MHA do in My Villain Academia back then?
This was an all-time arc. It did great nothing ranking lower than 15 with many of the chapters being in the top 10.
Should they transfer him or get him doing an hiatus?
Personally I wish the hiatus had been longer. If it continues this way I would say move him to Jump SQ like D. Gray-Man (one of my all-time favorite manga). The real fans will wait for each chapter; they will likely be longer with more progression.

It could have been used but it really was not all that impressive of a CP.

I think the point is, even if individually AS and Hal have better chapters (I don't know if they do because I'm not reading them, but for the sake of the argument) by virtue of simply having a gagillion more fans KGB will never get less votes than either of them. Most people do not follow every series in the magazine, but everyone will only vote for the series they do follow. If that makes sense.

The ceiling on KGB is infinitely higher. So high compared to the rest of them, it shouldn't be able to rank like this naturally.

Doing the cover for WSJ requires drawing a cover, an intro page in colour before the main one, then the lead colour, even if there's already a lead colour page to use it's more work than that. In addition to the colour pages typically being extra. Giving Kagurabachi the cover and lead colour then having the actual chapter be only 9 pages long wouldn't be a great look.

It should work out that way but it hasn't been. KGB been ranking very low for quite some time, so it is very possible the votes are swinging the way we think as well as all the other issues KGB is experiencing. Who is purchasing WSJ every week to only read 2 series? That doesn't even make sense, the people purchasing the phsycal magazine are more likely to read the majority (if not all) of the series, rather than purchase it to read 1 series every week. People forget that jump made the 3 most recent chapters of each ongoing series available for free. People do not need to go out and purchase the physical magazine every week just for their favorite series anymore. KGB is facing a perfect storm unfortunately. Someone brought up that their fans could be purchasing the manga while not purchasing WSJ every Monday. Meaning, it would have less fans reading and voting for it on a weekly basis, which very well could be true. If you had to choose between purchasing your favorite manga volume when released or WSJ (when you do not read the entire magazine) you would just read online weekly and then purchase your manga volume once a quarter.

So basically, hum... Kagurabachi is not popular enough to make into the better ToC placements?

Yeah they don't need to do that. It could literally just be a spread inside the mag, with like Ichi or something on the cover (like roboco's 5th anniversary). He already has the color page, he doesn't need the third anyway. (Kiyoshi anni 1 only had the spread for instance)

The physical mag is dirt cheap and if I remember right they frequently do deals on the digital version. It's like how I recently bought a Netflix sub exclusively to watch Edgerunners 2 despite having no interest in anything else on the catalogue. You say you think it's likelier that people who pay for the magazine read everything in it, but I think it's honestly the opposite and would otherwise show in tank sales/online engagement. If everyone gave everything in the magazine a go, you wouldn't get series that immediately flop in views on the digital platform.

Not to say people just read one series and are done for the week, I just think the average is closer to that then twenty.

Again though you can vote online. So even if fans aren't picking up the physical mag, they can still cast a vote. I do get what you're saying though.

That is not what I was saying. It's very popular it sells 130k volumes at a time when people are not buying physical media. What I am saying is there is a perfect storm of multiple variables holding it down in the lower ranks of Jump.
One could be votes, for sure the page counts is hurting it, the fact they cannot trust him for 19 pages means they cannot give him more work like Color or LCP, and his overall health are creating this situation. Which one is doing the most damage probably the health leading to limited page count also making it so he cannot do CP or LCP.

Personally, I feel it has been overhyped. My opinion whih rarely reflets the majority. I am also an outlier (43 years old) in many regards and I acknowledge that I do not match Jump's target demographic.

Fair points, I am just speculating as I have no idea how or why they make the decisions they do. I thought that only people who purchased the physical magazine, so his is news to me. I would have been casting my vote for years if I could. I pay for Jump digitally and I have never been given a reader's survey.

Yeah, I remember back when bachi had just released and was struggling in the ToC people made entire guides on how to buy the digital magazine and cast a vote that way to show support :teehee

A little fearful that Greykeith hasn’t gotten a color page like Ura did. Has the positive reception changed?

sharkbait back from long hiatus just to again start trash discourse about kagurabachi 🥀

Yeah, I remember back when bachi had just released and was struggling in the ToC people made entire guides on how to buy the digital magazine and cast a vote that way to show support :teehee

Tbh I respect Kagurabachi fans for that. They actually put money in their mouth in terms of supporting their series instead of being a keyboard warrior. They actually bother to learn and understand how jump works in terms of newbie survival. And this votes means so much for the author. And I disagree this is a vote manipulation - they are paying for subscriptions, which is monetary support for the business, and directly support the author. People also BOUGHT the actual JP manga volume (digital and physical) to support hokazono. And because most of the mangaka income come from volume sales, they directly help him pays the bill.

This is like people who actually do meaningful things to help like volunteering instead of worthless "thoughts and prayers".

Not to start a discourse, but just to give an example. There was a newbie manga that was so beloved by the west. The west loved it so much. But it did not do well in the ranking despite it being objectively pretty solid. Every week in the series chapter discussions, there were inevitably some people who followed TOC who constantly raised alarm bells over the bottom placement (it was dead last for weeks). What happened? The "fans" actually dogpiled on the person, call them a "doomer", gets angry, continue to put their head in the sands over the reality. The "fans" did nothing except continue reading for free in the app. No actual concrete efforts to support the author except being a keyboard warrior. Of course, none of those "fans" actually bought the JP wsj subscription so they could vote for it.

When that manga got axed, everyone was shocked and angry. And what they did? They had the audacity to get angry at Kagurabachi fans lol!!!! They said that overseas Kagurabachi fans who voted for Kagubachi in the online JP mag should have also gas and vote that axed manga too. The audacity!!! If they truly love that axed manga, then they should have become the change that they want to see! Instead of just "talk only, no action".

Ofc, i am not saying the title of the axed manga, to avoid the impression that it is about kagurabachi vs that axed manga. That is not the point.

It is about the difference of actual action vs talk only

That's only for jump+ series(they also have one time free reads for chapters prior to that). wsj titles on jump+ only have the first 3 chapters available for free outside of campaigns

Kagurabachi is safe, nothing will going to happen with it unless Hokazono reaches a breaking point of not being able to serialize weekly anymore.
Why can’t shonen jump just make it biweekly, ik it isn’t normal for jump but WAAAAAAAAY better than nothing, they are going to burn the guy out at this rate

I'm reading some comments about the situation with Kagurabachi (mainly regarding Hokazono's health)

But instead of changing the Weekly Shonen Jump schedule to accommodate Kagurabachi, why not try doing what they've done in the past?

Move it to V-Jump and see how it goes, that magazine is kind of missing Dragon Ball (we still don’t know if Toyotaro will continue it).. and in the meantime, take "advantage" of the opportunity to get the fanbase used to buying it again with Kagurabachi on it

As has been stated many times, Jump will never move *Kagurabachi* elsewhere unless the situation becomes truly, *truly* serious.

Moreover, a monthly release schedule would make the story even slower and more disjointed than it already is.
