oh yeah something real important is happening in 2012

the '12 elections...

apperently the polar ice caps is supposed to be completely melted by 2012.

Oh well. As Belle Mere stated in One Piece "Don't curse the era that you were born in..."

Very understandable, though I wouldn't quit school and starting preaching yet. :D

There are alot of theories concerning 12/21/12, but none really based in facts. Many people are treating this as the new 2000, thinking that anything and everything bad that could happen will happen. I'm not so sure. :notrust

People will always put forth and fear a new apocalypse. A few decades ago, it was fear of full-out nuclear warfare and now it's the fear of terrorists with nukes. Peace seems so foreign a term.

I bet my bottom dollar that this world would not end in 2012. Since no one knows when this world will end, predicting is a pure waste of time. :eyeroll

True. However, It's not so much that the world will end. Most of these theorists believe that some major upheaval will occur in 12/21/12, like some believe that the world will undergo so great spiritual awakening, bringing the world as a whole together. Others believe that some great disaster will happen, which will cause a substantial amount of humans die. Others believe that A solar storm of great magnitude will occur, causing our polar icecaps to disappear, and possibly shifting our equator. There are quite a few predictions, however most are completely fictionalized.

I'm not going to worry about when an arbitrary measure of time invented by people who thought time was cyclical and that practiced human sacrifice thought the world will end.

Every generation since at least the time of Christ has thought the world will end soon (early Christians thought Jesus was going to rise again at any time, going as far back as the writers of the gospels of Matthew and Luke, who wrote "this generations will not pass until [the second coming] has taken place." (Matthew 24:34, Luke 21:32)). Cults in the 19th Century were convinced it would happen soon. I can't remember the name of it, but there was one evangelical sect that thought that the world would end one weekend, based on some "preacher"'s estimates. They got together that weekend, waited, and obviously the world didn't end. So what did they do? It turned out the "preacher's" estimates were wrong, moved the date, and went out and waited again (I'll let you decide whether or not they were right). Let us not forget the "doomsday clock" maintained at the University of Chicago since 1947 that asserts the human race is "minutes to midnight".

I could go on, but I think I've made my point. The world isn't going to end any time soon, and if it is, we can't predict when (unless a giant meteor is 3 weeks away from smashing into Earth or something *knocks on wood*). Life's too short to waste time worrying when it's all going to end anyway, so why bother?

*interesting side note:
According to the wikipedia article on "The Second Coming", there are people who believe that Barack Obama is the second coming of Christ... Now, I'm not saying it is impossible, but if Jesus is coming back, I doubt he's coming back a politician.

It's funny that you should mention that, as not only do some believe that Obama may be the second coming of Christ, but also that he may be the Anti-Christ. That's just hilarious to me, in many ways. :D

Well, I for once don't believe these things. How many times already we have heard this kind of things and then nothing happened? -___-

Sure, the articles have given some info, true. But those are info on the phenomenons and the possibilities. Not a fact. Most of them are just speculations based on phenomenons, made by theorists. It would be weird if they gonna happen but no one came forward to say anything about it on national tv or press statements.

I would have to agree with you. There are way too many theories, and very little to no facts. It doesn't help the fact that many of these "theories" come from established fiction writers....:notrust

I think all of this 2012 stuff is some silliness I really don't think anything is going to happen. This all started because the Mayan calender ends on 2012, you know what I think....I think they ran out of room on the calender, they were probably thinking "Man 2012 is so far way lets just stop at 2011." :amuse

well according to my beliefs, wich are based on the Bible, well basically nobody knows when this is going to end, so at least, if someone says you that acording to the Bible, the world is going to end in a especific date, just ignore him
In other hand, it´s true, some cultures as mayans, predict that in the year 2012, the world are goint to experience a purification, and probably that includes the end of the human race, It´s interesting, but I don´t belief in those theories

As an Atheist, the only thing that I've for sure is that if humankind has to disapear, it will be by our own methods.

I foresee something terrible in the future and it could very well be another World War. If not, many people will suffer though because of our own mis-doings.

But I do agree with pjboom that humans will be their own undoing.

I'm a Christian and I myself don't believe in that thing. If Jesus were to come the second time, it would be when the gospel have been preached and the word have been heard to the ends of the world. Unfortunately (of Fortunately), that is not the case right now.

I sincerely doubt that someone can actually predict or nail down when Jesus will come back the second time and so, if someone without very very very very valid convictions tells me so, I won't believe it. :darn

will it be like Evangelion? I mean will there be like a first and second impact that will annihilate half the earth's population?
