I'm not going to worry about when an arbitrary measure of time invented by people who thought time was cyclical and that practiced human sacrifice thought the world will end.
Every generation since at least the time of Christ has thought the world will end soon (early Christians thought Jesus was going to rise again at any time, going as far back as the writers of the gospels of Matthew and Luke, who wrote "this generations will not pass until [the second coming] has taken place." (Matthew 24:34, Luke 21:32)). Cults in the 19th Century were convinced it would happen soon. I can't remember the name of it, but there was one evangelical sect that thought that the world would end one weekend, based on some "preacher"'s estimates. They got together that weekend, waited, and obviously the world didn't end. So what did they do? It turned out the "preacher's" estimates were wrong, moved the date, and went out and waited again (I'll let you decide whether or not they were right). Let us not forget the "doomsday clock" maintained at the University of Chicago since 1947 that asserts the human race is "minutes to midnight".
I could go on, but I think I've made my point. The world isn't going to end any time soon, and if it is, we can't predict when (unless a giant meteor is 3 weeks away from smashing into Earth or something *knocks on wood*). Life's too short to waste time worrying when it's all going to end anyway, so why bother?
*interesting side note:
According to the wikipedia article on "The Second Coming", there are people who believe that Barack Obama is the second coming of Christ... Now, I'm not saying it is impossible, but if Jesus is coming back, I doubt he's coming back a politician.
