Pretty ridiculous honestly, especially since they only seem to give it to a player in the finals. It's the same for other sports I watch and I never understood what was so bad about delaying it...makes no sense lol

In '98, they said that they sent the votes in at halftime, but then Zidane turned it on in the second half, so he deserved to win it, but they couldn't change the votes and give him the award.

So, in '06, even though he'd headbutted Materazzi, they gave it to him because they'd wrongfully denied him the Golden Ball in '98.
