I remember that it was foul or offside, I don't remember exactly which one. It was clear though.
The refs called it off because of an offside. TV pushed rewind and found there was no such thing. The guy scoring the goal was meters behind the line. No foul is visible either.

Best team so far: The referees

I think I only need a few fingers to point out the games where they actually did okay, otherwise it's been a huge failfest so far.

I think the opposite actually.

Matches whose result was clearly ¨changed¨ because of the refs: Brazil - Croatia; Mexico - Cameroon (Mexico still managed to win); Bosnia - Nigeria; and maybe Australia - Netherlands (cause the penalty Australia had wasn't a penalty, Holland still won nevertheless). The refs have been good so far, in almost 30 matches.

Well elaborate then.
Your turn I guess.

Probably he is being very strict and thinking that any error ruins the referees job as though it doesn't happen in any League throughout the world.

Hardy, so what about that penalty that Iran should've had yesterday? :)

Penalty is complicated because people have different opinions depending on the position of the foul. Something is foul in any part of the field, but inside the area "it was just a light push, soccer is a contact sport blablabla". :derp

Kinda funny how you leave out Iran - Argentinia :amuse Or the penalty Costa Rica should've got. Or the undeserved penalty Spain got in their first game against the Netherlands? Or the match Ecuador - Switzerland, where a clear goal wasn't given because of a nonexistant offside? Really, there have been countless of wrong decisions during the WC. Doesn't matter if that decided the game or not, there hardly was one day without at least one blatantly wrong decision.

Man, what a thrillride yesterday... respect to Ghana!
Luckily Klose still has it.

Today is hard to pedict... Portugal made a rather mediocre first match with a few dumb faults, but they're pretty much with their back to the wall now.

It's in the box, the Iranian got the ball first, it was a foul. With these assumptions it can only lead to a penalty. The refs didn't even decide on the foul part though iirc, because there wasn't a freekick either. Bad reffing over and over.

I don't know if the level of judgement is worse in the WC than say La Liga or Premiuer League overall over the same mount of games to conclude a proper average. You got to consider that most of the games are rather high stake too where the teams are rather even and both are playing for the win. In typical leagues you got plenty of matches that are plain boring or between top and crap teams, making the matches less intense and way less controversial to be referee in.

Overall there's been some insanely big mistakes however. You also have to take into consideration that while in many cases the bad calls haven't affected the result for the winning team, every decision more or less has a butterfly effect. For example the Italy v Costa Rica match. If Costa Rica had gotten the penalty the actual goal likely wouldn't have come because the situation of the play would be different. Overall the number turned into "1" which was the justified number, in just a couple minutes later, but you can't be sure how it would've affected the play. However a wrong call is a wrong call, and you should always hope for the "invisible" ref that makes all the good calls to make the game turn out like it should. Overall I've only been impressed by the ref team in a few games. The worst mistakes have been related to off-side and penalty situations, and they are clearly the worst as they are goal related. The first Brazil penalty was so damn cheap, and the Spain penalty. But then a 100% obvious penalty for Costa Rica was ignored. It's really bad in those cases.

Iran Argentina was alright? Tell me how it was a failure?

Costa Rica's penalty in which match? They won both anyway.

Spain got rekt and it was a really easy to call penalty, everyone saw it as a penalty at first glance.

With Switzerland's goal happenned the same thing, everyone thought that the dude touched the ball.

None of those are ¨blatantly wrong¨ as you're trying to make them look, nor they are countless (I'm pretty sure you're out of examples). Shit like this always happens.

Except he didn't? Zabaleta touches the ball, has a better position and then the Iranian hits him, it should had been a corner kick, not a penalty.

The Iranian hits the Argentinian? Wow, just wow :sclap Which match did you watch? Probably with argentinian commentary?
I'll give you the hitting the ball, must have remembered that one wrong. Still, mowing down a player like that in the box without any consequences is hardly acceptable.

Yeah dude, Zabaleta hits the ball and the Iranian dude runs into his leg ._. Nope, the Argentinian commentary said it was a penalty at first glance actually.

¨Mowing¨ a player while doing a legal tackle is ok, regardless if it's in the box or outside of it.

I really think that people always need to find something bad in something good. This WC could be perfect but people still would find something to whine about. Jesus, refs making bad calls (not obvious and terrible bad calls, just bad ones) is something new in this sport? Really?

Just enjoy what so far has prolly been the best WC in terms of quality matches ever.

/inbefore Argentinia wins the WC with another god's hand and Hardy says the referee did an awesome job :kappa

Okay enough with the trolling, it was a clear penalty to me and a lot of others. If you disagree, fine, you have your own view. Referees made some horrible choices to me, you feel different. No point discussing this any further.

I've been very vocal when the refs screwed up heavily (like in Brazil's and Mexico's first maches) but saying that the refs have been horrible for shit that happens all the time is nitpicking seriously, stop being a whiny bitch.

It was not a penalty and a easily arguable and hard decision by me and most people. If you disagree, fine, you have your own narrow minded view. No point in discussing this any further.
