Re: All Purpose Sig Contest Discussion Thread 2009

It has been fixed, kakashi919. :)

Good choice on the signature, by the way! When I was watching that episode a couple of days ago, I thought that final image with Kenpachi looked really good and should be used in some sort of artwork. :nod The Bleach anime usually does a very good job on artwork, especially for endings and openings.

Hmm... Well, the theme is "monsters." That means you consider both Kenpachi and Wabisuke to monsters, then? :amuse

Just bumping in, but someone made a sig which is a reference to a name that was given to me in my family when I was very young :)

I am going to take a wild guess and say that your old nickname was "Cookie Monster." Is that correct? :amuse

Thanks so much, Andrew, for the submission!!! :hug You made it in just in time. Monsters, Inc. is a great choice for this theme, and I really like the image. It works well with your title for excellent comedic effect. Plus, all of the white whisps mixed with the green whisps adds a delightful sense of whimsy to the image. :)

With Andrews' submission, the contest is closed. Six participants are in this contest, and all of the submission look really good. It will be interesting to see who wins. :tem

The new contest is also open. The theme this time is GOLD. I hope you enjoy the contest. :hbunny

Quick! Someone think of something to help revive the GFX forums. Like getting a small sidebar on the homepage that says something like SOTW Week #x,x.

Dude calm down this is not fringefx or deltavision...It's a manga based forum no need to all this.

fringefx? deltavision? *assumes that they are purely art sites*
It can be more than a manga based forum.;)
You want to give the impression that this site provides pretty much every manga in different languages plus a little more. It is true that 99% of the people come to this site comes to read manga and nothing else, but the more this site provides the longer each person would stay each visit.

Ah, so you've finally noticed, eh? :sbunny
Well, I suppose I should fill you in for those who haven't been been paying close attention to the shoutbox for the past month or so. Basically, since Koen has stepped down, I have been the one handling all the administrative stuff for the contest like updating the shoutbox, moving things in the Photoplog, etc. When Koen was here, he handled the shoutbox (and he did an amazing job of it).

Now that we are no longer sharing the responsibilites, it has fallen on me, and what I have been doing for the past several contests (ever since Koen stepped down) was updating the shoutbox after the voting had finished. So, I have been announcing the winners in the shoutbox and the new signature contest once every two weeks. I did this originally, because I didn't realize that I needed to update the shoutbox. (Koen used to do it, and I miss him handling stuff like this. :darn) So, when no one seemed to notice, I just continued to only update like that.

Thus, I was planning on updating the shoutbox tomorrow once the winner of the previous sig contest was decided, but if you want me to announce the current voting thread today, I don't mind doing it and I can do it in the future. :hbunny

I've been studying for a big test that I have to take tomorrow morning; so, I am going to comment on the submissions for the new signature contest then, but so far, they all look very good (all 2 of them :oh). Hopefully, there will be more submissions in the near future. :tem

Sincerely... I've noticed time ago... but I know how much you've to do with the other threads of the forum so I preferred to wait...
I'm sorry you have to do all the work alone, but for a stupid (but big) mistake I did some time ago, I can't ask to become a moderator and help you...
By the way, now the sidebar has been updated, so thank you very much.
Good luck with your test Tsukisama :hug !!!

Thanks so much for your concern! :lovebunny
Although I appreciate that you hadn't pointed it out in the past, it makes me feel bad when I feel like I am letting you guys down. I updated the shoutbox last night when I saw your post. :sweatdrop I shall definitely try to update the shoutbox more frequently! :nod

The voting thread is about to close in the next few minutes! So, this is the time for anyone wishes to cast last-minute votes to do so. :whoabunny I'll be announcing the winner promptly afterwards with the results.

Well, the Monsters theme sig contest is closed, and the winner is... [insert dramatic drum roll here] leafです!!! :confetti
Be sure, everyone, to wish him congratulations! It was a lovely signature, but that contest had a lot of great signatures and you should all feel very pleased with your submissions. :hbunny

Re: All Purpose Sig Contest Discussion Thread 2009

Now, let's look at the current signatures, shall we? :tem

The first submission is Farfalla's. (She's back! :dance) Keeping in her usual submission style, the signature is ethereal and elegant with a pensive written statement accompanying the piece. As always, I'm curious whence you got the text and what special significance it is meant to have.

The art has an idyllic scenery with a verdant field of flowers and certain serenity, and the golden light of the sun works to great effect here. (It makes me long for spring to come soon and for cold autumn to be over soon. :D) I don't recongize the girl or the species of her pet (gerbil, maybe? :?bunny). I really like the whisps in the foreground, and it sort of looks like there is a pink doily mattern in the upper left corner below the text blended in, which works amazingly well. Overall, this is a very great submission and a wonderful reentry into the contests after your break. :hug

The next entry is by Sasori, another golden member (an allusion to their orange usernames ;)). The theme for this submission seems to be Konohagakure and Naruto from Naruto. That scene with Naruto looks somehow familiar (although I can't remember him ever in a cool pose with a senbon needle in his mouth). Is it from an anime/manga scene? Naruto totally works here, especially with his golden (yellow) hair, the bottom of which just barely makes it into the submission.

What really does it for me is the background. I love the golden leaves in the background and the autumnal imagery. It really complements the real-life scenery and interestingly juxtaposes with Farfalla's more vernal submission. (You two didn't scheme this, did you? :wtf:p) You also make use of a common theme associated with autumn: nostalgia. Naruto looking back on the golden days of Konoha while watching the falling of the golden autumn leaves is great. (Plus, on a smaller note, you are also working the konoha = leaf angle too, which adds even more to the subtext.) I imagine this is an older Naruto looking back over the many adventures and noble shinobi he has encountered over the years, as I find it hard to imagine the current Naruto like this just yet. Good job! :kkthumbs

The third submission so far is by TeAm#7FoReVer (to whom I shall henceforth refer to as T7F for succintness if that is okay :)). T7F went in a totally different direction than the previous two submission with theme. (I love how you guys manage such variation on a theme like this. It always makes me look forward to seeing your submissions! :hbunny) T7F decided to focus more on the elegance and opulence that has been associated with gold in pretty much cultures around the world.

In the image, we see a very affluent, sophisticated interior of some obvious grandiose mansion or hotel. This is a place for wealthy people of leisure. (The architecture looks awesome, and I never would have guessed it was actually a cathedral without clicking on the link in the credits! :o) In the foreground, bathed in a golden glow and sparkles stand a beautiful couple, gazing lovingly at one another. The message of the signature is that love is what is truly gold, and the message is supported, as the love of the couple is what truly outshines the elegant splendor of the background scenery. Simply beautiful! :luv

I am really excited over these the first three submissions. I do hope that others are inspired by the three great works so far and decide to participate themselves.

Also, I know I just stated a lot about these submissions, but I (and the artists themselves too, I'm sure) would love to see more comments about the submissions. Also, if the artists might want to share some comments on their works and the creative process behind their creation, that would also be encouraged. :hbunny

Ah!!! While I was writing that big post, we got another submission!!! :occa

Well, submit my sign in the GOLD contest.

Someone can check if the title of the work is ok? Or i make a mistake. xD

Your title looks fine. Thanks for the submission, Andrews! :)

When I create signatures, I try to come up with ideas on what some of the submissions might be, and since I am a Saint Seiya fan, I was looking forward to someone doing a Gold Saint submission! :fangirl

It looks awesome, and the gold saints definitely deserve all the love they can get. (They always have such tragic pasts and fates, no? :() I'm trying to place which saint this is. If I were to venture to guess, I would say that this isn't one of the actual gold saints but is Seiya when his cloth evolves. Am I right? :tem

I especially think it is Seiya, because the saint in this picture is doing what seems to be his signature Pegasus Ryuuseiken. (Plus, the tiara head band looks a lot like the Pegasus one.) If he isn't Seiya, then my second guess would Tenma, the Pegasus saint from the Lost Canvas.

Overall, this is a super submission; I can feel his cosmos coming straight through the picture!!! :cheerbunny
