All Purpose Sig Contest Discussion Thread 2011

I have a question, are vertical tags acceptable?
What I mean exactly is that the maximum of a horizontal tag in submission is 600x200, but what if I wanted to use the same width & height for a horizontal tag(for example, 400x200) but turn the width & height backwards(for example, 200x400).

In the past, they were not acceptable and as far as I know the rule has not changed. Entries need to be sigs that would be wearable by MH standards.

Although I think we should do a vertical theme sometime, where all the entries have to be vertical tags. XD

This sig looks a bit plain, imo. The text is good, but the lighting and the blending around the renders needs some work. It looks like they were just pasted on top of the BG. But I like the Ironman concept for this theme. XD

I wish I could think of something. -_-

Lol it was a stock, so I didnt have to add the background, I wasnt done with it yet so I agree its too plain~ But I put quite a bit of work into the lighting/color/and even the lines~

I remember bringing this up as well, and apparently the rules are very strict on the Horizontal/Vertical issues. There is no making a 600 H 200 W sig. (as much fun as it would be)
I brought this up in one of my first entries here at MH, that I discovered looked SO much better Vertically~ (Also discovered that you can always point this out, in the comments of your entry in a Spoiler tag.)

This theme might as well end up with less entries than usual.
I have no idea what to make this time ...

A collision can be of anything, fights where two opponents collide with their bodies or first, a car crash; a meteor smashing onto the earth or even a train wreck. I think the options are literally endless to a degree.

Also long as one object, person or item has some sort of impact or collisions to the other, its acceptable. Anything that produces some sort of friction or impact against something else.

I hope that made sense. I'll add it to the submission page.

Voting for the Sig of the Week #171-172 is over.

We have a tie, congrats to Coffee and DeBaron for winning.

It seems the choice for votes was split down the middle between to veteran contenders.

Hey everyone, it seems I'm not going to beable to enter this one. I just couldn't find a render or stock that I liked to fit the theme. I tried to make a jousting sig but it didn't work out. -_-

@ Deb - I did not think it would be too challenging when I thought of the theme. I might have to extend the the sig contest to next week if no one else enters.

About the new version - I like that better. The reason I like the new one is because it seems to have a lighter tone or color behind the hair and bandana, that makes the new version stand out a little better for me. Mixed feeling on the lighter cloud? Anyway both are super awesome.

So I decided to submit my jousting sig seeing that there was only one entry.

I found the theme very hard though, mainly b/c if you want to use a render with two things/people colliding they just don't exist, or are hard to come by. And using two renders is more difficult, that's why I went with a stock image, but even then it took me a while to find something usable for a sig.

Im not sure if Ill be able to get in a sig or not, as in I have several things happening at once, two of which being, I am Ill and that my laptop jumped off my bed onto the floor a few days ago and needs a fix.

The current theme is actually somewhat similar to the last SOTW theme.

Normally when the sigs have a low turn out the themes dead line gets extended. This time, it will be a little different. When the dead line for 173 -174 is up, I'm going to start the 175-176 theme. Hopefully this one will be less complicated.

For the 173 - 174 bi weekly contest. I will just hold off voting for the Sig of the Week #173-174 until the next bi weekly contest is over, if there are no more entries and carry the sigs over to vote in the next theme.

Been working on a few ideas today, but I want to use the gundam render I found. This is a WIP with the gundam render... the left side has too many effects I think and is looking a bit messy, so I need to fix that. Just wanted some feedback ^^

@ Kakaski - I think the sig looks pretty cool.^^ I like the effects and the concept. I think there needs to be a better focal point though. When I look at it my eyes are drawn in several directions. I also kind of find the focals of the renders a tad hard to see. The depth also looks great with a good balance of blurred and the sharpened areas .

= The smudging of the bottom layers is a bit messy and heading towards all directions at the same time.

Youre asking for advice, Id say another layer on top with some Sharp, shiny sparks would probably go nicely~

- To try and confirm - You are gonna leave submissions open for the Collision theme and just postpone its Voting phase AND at the same time have the NEXT theme open as well?

@ coffee - No - the submission for the Collision theme will be closed now -. Normally, it would have gotten a dead line extension.

I'm going to start the next theme and have the collision submission entries that we have already, be voted along with the the next theme's voting period.
