That was quick with the third booster shot coming out. I agree though, the more vaccinated people are, the less likely they are to end up in a hospital or die.

Here at my place, we’ve already begun rolling out booster shots to the medical folks. At least, that’s what I’ve heard.

Yeah I've seen some reporting suggesting that the level of viral load in vaccinated people vs unvaccinated people isn't significantly different enough, which would explain them not being much less likely to spread it. I think this kind of evidence goes hand in hand with reporting that despite initial fears in India itself, the Delta variant might not be significantly more dangerous. I think the issue with this though is like you mentioned, if it's much more infectious it gives more opportunity for it to mutate into something else. Best case would be it going the way of the Spanish Flu and maybe mutating itself into something not much worse than the common cold, but this seems like something impossible to forecast.

I have been a bit iffy about the reporting on whether the delta variant is or isn't more lethal than the original strain. Mostly because it's different from how viruses generally behave. And because as far as I can tell mortality with the virus goes up along with infections (due to overwhelmed healthcare systems having less capacity to treat people) which could potentially why data suggests the new variant is more lethal (though I stress this is entirely speculation on my part and real evidence needs to be reviewed by more competent people than me to actually get to this conclusion). I am not sure of how the presence and spread of the virus on vaccinated people evidences it not being as lethal though.

I think when you consider that doctors in general have become better at treating the disease and the sheer reduction in the amount of severe cases due to the amount of vaccinations, perhaps it evens out. Now, that might be somewhat misleading if we're talking about how a less developed country would fare against it with little or no vaccinations, but at least to me the headlines seem to make it seem much worse than it is.

I think they're purposely writing headlines like that as clickbait for anti-vaxxers, who without reading the articles will use it as sources and get pro-vaxxers to click on it.

Dang, I didn't expect cuomo to go down so fast. Figured there'd be more of a fight considering coumo is known for being a bully, if not a thug (that's something I only recently read about though). Reading a bit about the specific allegations what amazes me is the ego, for lack of a better word, on this guy. As in, he had decades of "making moves" on women with whom he worked (And was in a comparative position of power). The Valerie Bauman case, while far more harmless than the others, stuck out to me because he went out of his way to offer her a job. A bit of a tangent but I am kinda curious as to how often his advances of this type worked.

That said, there is an obvious difference between what he tells maga folk to do (take a medicine which has zero evidence of working against covid) vs what he would do when sick (immediately go to the best doctors western medicine can buy and take every experimental drug cocktails they say without question). At least it can be said Trump isn't enough of a moron to take his own advise when he is the one that has to pay the consequences.

You don't even have to limit it to Trump honestly, just look at any politician that flirts with being anti-vaxx and a good portion of them are undoubtedly vaccinated themselves, but of course laws are in place to prevent any of that from ever coming to light, for better or worse.

WASHINGTON (CBSLA/CBS News) — President Donald Trump was transported to Walter Reed Medical Center aboard the Marine One on Friday after sharing through social media that he and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for coronavirus.

The White House said Trump was being treated with an experimental drug cocktail.

The president’s physician, Sean P. Conley, released a memo Friday saying Trump received an 8-gram dose of Regeneron’s polyclonal antibody cocktail “as a precautionary measure.”

Along with the experimental drug, Conley said the president is also taking zinc, vitamin D, famotidine (a medication for heartburn or acid reflux), melatonin and a daily aspirin.

The White House released a statement from Trump’s physician, saying he is doing very well, and has also added Remdesivir to his treatment for coronavirus.
