Believe what? Are you talking about trans stuff specifically? I'm personally not voting for her because she's made some sort of promise that I trust she'll keep her word on. I'm voting for her because I'm a Democrat, and she's the Democratic presidential candidate. Simple as that.
Thats the biggest mistake there is. With this exact mindset you make way for so much dictatorship and bullshit. Basically if the democrats would put Trump als Frontrunner you would then have voted for him, even if he makes repub policies later?
Or go even more extreme and say a new hitler emerges as democrat you still vote for him?

Bad hypothetical. I dunno how your political system works, but in a political system with only two choices with any real chance of winning, you pick the one that aligns with your values, and then you're done with it. I think centrists and independents are dishonest liars that want to make people think they're more open-minded than they actually are. All of my values align with the left. I don't have ANY conservative views at all. And even if I did, I'd simply pick the party that holds either the most values that align with me or the most important ones.

I vote for policy, not people. I don't need the president's values to match mine, I need his policies to. And you're essentially asking me if I'd still vote Democrat if the Democratic Party was the Republican party. The answer is "It depends on which party aligns with my values."

Ah well. We got more choices but in the end, they are mostly the same.
And we(or i) also dont trust any politician, so there policies are not that important, because no party can govern alone here. You always need to make cuts. Worst case you vote for a party on ine policy alone, they win and then they cut this policy to appeal to their partners.
So i would like to have a candidate i could vote for, where i know what i was going to get.

I know what I'm gonna get with Kamala. More Biden/Obama style policies. I don't need some god damn populist superhero. I just need the democratic status quo, followed by incremental steps moving a smidge further left over time. She hasn't promised anything to me that I don't think she can deliver.

Well see, I just made a post talking about how I vote for policies, not people. So specifying that they come from Obama or Biden doesn't really matter, when they're in line with what the Democratic party promotes:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polit...ore progressive, spending less on the military.

Which are antithetical to what the Republican party promotes:

I'm an African-American man who grew up in the racist Bible Belt of the United States. I grew up with pretty severe social anxiety that requires medication. I have a mother, two sisters, two nieces. More than one homosexual relative (no trans ones yet). I have close friends and family who have relied on food stamps. Friends of different races and religions. I've known women that have given birth to babies by men they didn't consent to having sex with. I've experienced the summers getting hotter and hotter every year. I've seen local churches call for bans on Harry Potter and Pokemon (didn't work, but that's beside the point). Outside of my own personal experiences, on tv I've seen children in America in cages, I've seen police shooting unarmed black men, and I've seen white supremacists marching in the streets carrying torches.

Democrats say help the helpless? Republicans say "pull yourself up by your bootstraps."

Democrats say marriage should be between two people that love each other? Republicans say it should be between a man and a woman, as the Christian god intended.

Democrats say rich people should pay their fair share? Republicans say taxation is theft.

Democrats say you've earned your social security benefits after decades of being a valued citizen. Republicans say you're a freeloader because that money is being given to someone that's no longer a part of the work force and thus, aren't ACTUALLY a valued citizen.

Democrats say Labor Unions are important to keeping the working class happy and capable of remaining the working class. Republicans want you to shut the fuck up and do your job.

Democrats say we only have one planet, and we're killing it with pollution that's causing global warming Republicans first said global warming was a hoax. Then they said it's real, but people aren't responsible for it. Then they said it's real, but it's too late to do anything about it Then they said it's real, and we can mitigate it, but they're not willing to pass any policies that would help mitigate it.

Democrats say a woman should decide what happens to her body by expressing her own autonomous decisions. Republicans say abortion is murder and women should be jailed for killing children. Even through contraception like IUDs.

Democrats say freedom of speech includes speech you disagree with. Republicans say burn the books that are antithetical to theological beliefs (specifically Christian ones), while simultaneously forcing everyone else to be audience to the speech you want to promote (typically Christian ones).

Everything conservative is bad. It's all bad, I hate it all. It's just so fucking bad.

Or if they are convinced to vote for her because she actually did something to stop Israel since Reagan's time? And then?

Dems really suck at this politics game now just because they're greedy.
But is that likely they will think a wepaons embargo is enough? I do not think it is. The people who are set on Jill Stein now are not gonna change due to a proposal alone. The people who would like an embargo but are afraid of trump are going to vote for harris anyway.

Think about it this way: If Kamala Harris says tomorrow "I want a weapons embargo", that will be a message that she never had to primary for and that is divisive inside the democratic party. A lot of democrats would not be able to support that message, it would divide the party shortly before an election. It would also be the number 1 topic until november and suck the air out of the topics that seem to be winning issues for democrats. Right now, it is much better for democrats if people talk about abortion than if they talk about Gaza, even if some voters would come around for democrats because they like Harris after such a proposal.
It would just be insanely unwise to do something like that at this time.

Just wanna point out that Jill Stein only ever tries to spoil the election when a Democrat is being screwed over, never a Republican. It makes me think that she's just in this to show up, get campaign money from fools that believe in the Green Party, take bribe money from conservatives that want to screw over the Dem candidate, and then disappear until she needs to refill her own personal coffers again.

Here's a Leftist content creator explaining the reason Leftists should vote Harris.

Here's a Leftist content creator explaining the reason Leftists should vote Harris.

I always wondered why the third parties are not focusing on the midterms where they actually would have a shot to win some seats (if they focus on places where they are strong).

I do think that Jill Stein is influenced (and supported) by Russia, but on the other hand, I do not think it is bad to give people the option to vote a third candidate instead of abstaining. The case can be made that Hillary Clinton lost because of some Green Party votes, but to me that just means that a candidate has at least some incentive to not just be the lesser of two evils.

In my opinion, the reason why a leftist should vote for Harris (and generally democrats) is because fighting for leftist causes will be easier under democrat leadership (usually) than under republican leadership. That is not always the case (think new york with mayor Adams, who acts like a republican for all means and purposes), but it is definitely true for Harris vs Trump.

That said, making them work for the leftist vote and threatening to withhold it is one way to make politicians actually embrace leftist policies. Biden would not have been as progressive as he was if there would not have had to woo disappointed Sanders voters.

There are limits to the logic above tho. If the democrats had ran with Bloomberg back then, I would not have urged anyone to vote for that guy, even against Trump. I can wholeheartedly say that in my country, I will vote for a party that might not get into parliament and I would not vote for a different party even if i knew that my party would not get in.

To be fair, I haven't looked up anything on any other parties. I'm just working with my understanding of Jill Stein. Libertarians just seem crazy, but maybe they're dishonest grifters too.

I don't think it's bad either. I consider it a Darwin test. It helps find out who around you deserves to be ignored from now on. 3rd parties won't become viable choices until a time that we've got Ranked Choice Voting in every state in America. Until then, anyone willing to throw away their vote in the name of virtue signaling is putting a huge L on their forehead.

Yeah, Leeja mentions that in the video. I just thought the Leftists here would understand it better if another Leftist like her said the same shit I've been saying for over a year.

IT IS NOT. IT WILL NOT WORK. IT JUST MAKES NORMAL PEOPLE HATE LEFTISTS.

It did work with Biden. Biden adjusted his policies to the left after winning against Sanders. If you get the left vote anyway, you will not adjust your policies. Why would you? Much like moderates threaten to withhold their vote if a politician promises bold climate action. Just that leftists get blamed for it while centrist voters expect that everyboy HAS to fight for their vote.

Sigh. Well at least you're not in America, so I don't have to worry about you throwing away my democracy along with your thrown away vote.
It is hard to call something democracy if there is no actual choice (because there is only the "right" choice and the evil people you are not supposed to vote for) and if you are "throwing away you vote" if you dare to not vote for someone you think is a liar that will work against the best interest of you and the topics you care about.

If everyone who does not identify as a conservative is basically amoral for not voting blue, that means that democrat voters have no lever to hold the democratic party accountable for their political actions. Do you think that would be a good thing?

Was Hasan right about there being no rapes on October 7th?
No he wasn't, as Zionists likely raped Palestinian prisoners, as they have been doing every day regardless of how young or old the prisoners are. They even rioted because they did not want to be held accountable for rape and sexual assault when we found out so many prisoners died from sexual assault.

Was he right that America deserved 9/11?
That's what happens when you interfere consistently in other countries and have no issue with overthrowing other countries' leaders to get your guys in, no matter how any innocent lives are lost. If US minded its own business, 9/11 likely would not have happened.

Yes. I know many that were willing to vote for Harris when Biden stepped down, until she made it clear she supported Israel committing genocide, framed it as self-defense, and continued to lie about Hamas and Palestine despite these lies being debunked by Israel themselves. It does not make sense to try to appeal to few republicans and zionists at the expense of tons of Muslims and the left.

Had Harris taken steps to stop Israel and help Palestinians, Jill Stein would not have the support that she does.

No it would not. Polls say either Harris and Trump are tied, or Harris is projected to lose. Most Dem voters are brainwashed enough to vote for Harris regardless of if she stops Israel from committing genocide, since they agree in most other things. Not to mention, it is her and Biden that were spreading lies to make Israel look good and Hamas look evil, so it's their fault anyway.

Also, Harris continues to talk about Gaza and Israel, she's already doing unwise stuff. If she loses, it's on her and the Democratic politicians for being shitty.

You know what's cool? Something I didn't know about Politifact is how easy it is to find out what a politician has accomplished in a convenient little graph.

Biden has kept 28% of his promises, and broke 3%.
Compromised on 10%
32% was stalled
and 24% are in the works.

Really interesting for any disillusioned people out there, as it allows us to find what good (and bad) things a particular president has done. And of course, they did the same for Trump.

Trump kept 23% of his promises and broke a WHOPPING 53% of his promises.
Compromised on 22%
Stalled on 0 and has 0 in the works.

With how Trump supporters talk about Trump, you'd think he kept over 75% of his promises.

I got you to admit that Palestinians raped Israeli hostages MONTHS AGO, and now you're backtracking? And why? To defend fucking HASAN PIKER!?

So you believe that America deserved 9/11 then? I don't know why I'm asking a second time, because you just did terrorist apologia for it, but couldn't just say "Yes, the people murdered in the twin towers deserved it because they were Americans."

Biden has accomplished record breaking bipartisan work during his 4 years. To the extent that he had further left policies he adopted, he also had further right policies to balance it out, or else he wouldn't be bipartisan.

The lever is still there, because there are, as I've said earlier, so many different demographics on the Left, from Centrist Democrat all the way to Tankie. The lever being "It's not enough to be on the Left, you have to be the right KIND of Left. Become more moderate, and tow the party line."

What if Harris said tomorrow "I will end weapon delivery to Israel". It is completely up in the air how that will benefit or hurt her. She would very suddenly, shortly before the election, create a situation in which the democratic party is divided on that issue and will fight each other. And she might just aswell face young pro-Gaza voters who still do not trust her and still say she is a war criminal or a genocidal psychopath because it is not enough for them. And then?

To be honest, I'm uncertain if it would make enough of a difference now, since she's insistent on repeating lies. She's gone beyond doubling-down on this kind of rhetoric and any sort of believable shift in approach would likely result from some new level of horror beyond what we've seen already... which would not (and should not) help her much since she's not done much more than excuse it at this point.

Her position is to ignore, excuse, and lie regarding this whole topic. It's not too late for her or Biden to do something about it, but they won't. Their legacy is what it is.

That is a given. It is always on the candidate and the campaign if they lose. it would also be on Harris if she endorses a weapons embargo and loses due to that. That is exactly why people in that position need to take their own decisions and often do rightfully disregard people shouting stuff rom the sidelines.

Biden has accomplished record breaking bipartisan work during his 4 years. To the extent that he had further left policies he adopted, he also had further right policies to balance it out, or else he wouldn't be bipartisan.
Which right policies? Biden definitely had a far more progressive agenda than obama, even tho obama ran on change. Without pressure from the left, thatwould not have happened. And there is no presure if it would have been clear to him that the leftist voters are going to vote for him anyway.

And again, lets not act like other voter groups are not doing that. If that were the case, candidates would not need campaigns in which they try to convince people to vote for them.

Democratically voting to kill democracy is anti-democratic.
What kind of democracy is it if there is only one "right" option to vote and you gotta vote it even if you think the people who represent that option work against your own interests, just a little less than another?

Voting democrat might protect the rule of law (which is very important), but lets not act like it is democratic in any worhty sense of the word to frighten people by saying they are wasting their votes if they vote for someone they think is good.

The lever is still there, because there are, as I've said earlier, so many different demographics on the Left, from Centrist Democrat all the way to Tankie. The lever being "It's not enough to be on the Left, you have to be the right KIND of Left. Become more moderate, and tow the party line."
A Tankie is not left, neither is a centrist democrat. They are just as different from a leftist point of view as a republican is, they just have a bigger overlap in policies we can both support. You are mistaken if you think these people play for the same team. Certainly, Kamala Harris isn't fighting for the same fundamental ideas that I am fighting for and she is fighting against some of them. "Becoming more moderate" to accomodate to themw ould mean betraying the values that I think are right.

Let me give you an example. There is a fundamental difference between wanting to abolish slavery and wanting slaves to be treated nicely (but generally accepting slavery as a given). Two people with these different views might be able to fight for some similar things, like improving the conditions of slaves, but one of them has the ultimate goal of abolishing slavery and for one of them, that is optional or even undesirable. And that makes these two people into opponents at some point. They are not the same political group. And it would be nonsense for an abolisher to join the ranks of a reforming to "tow the line". The cores are fundamentally different, no matter where the line is.

@xi0 Her stance in Gaza is a good example of a stance in which a leftist and a centrist will logically have to clash.

It does not really matter what Harris says there or whether she cares about Palestinian victims. She understand the reality of the situation and the american realpolitik when it comes to Israel and she tries to bend that far enough to reassure people that of course she is against all the horrible violence against Palestinians. And I do believe her and biden that they do not like Netanjahu and would love there to be peace in the middle east and no more dead Palestinian children (and why wouldn't they want that, this is creating work and bad press for them). But there is a core. The core is that Palestinian children are not valuable enough to open up that kind of fight in the american establishment and the american foreign politics. Much like for some people in Germany, it took a very long time to be open to severing all ties with Russia and treating them as an enemy.

I can completely understand that position as it is very close to my personality, being a rather moderate person in real life. So I do not blame Harris for it. But that is also exactly why a centrist can never be seen as an ally of justice.

But this is the bare minimum type of thing the Democratic party can get by on. If something horrible like Roe v. Wade getting overturned happens, the consolation is they can fundraise like crazy off of it. To do what? Get elected. And then? GET ELECTED AGAIN!

Perhaps that's all an honest assessment. More honest than you'd ever hear from almost any Democrat politician.

Though, I still think in the sense of political messaging, telling American taxpayers that they'll no longer be contributing to the wanton slaughter of children is kind of the biggest win-win imaginable right now. It would seem that she and her campaign do not believe that is worth risking against Trump, so an appropriate question would probably be why? I think the conflation of the Jewish vote with the unfettered support of Israel is at it's best ignorant, and at it's worst anti-Semitic. From the little polling I've seen, nothing I've seen regarding a weapons embargo or even a firmer stance is the risk people keep saying it is.

Yeah. Parties are businesses, first an foremost. That is true in a multi party system, too. And that is just logical. The people who prioritize getting elected over their morals are more likely to get elected, so parties are shaped by them. And they tend to have a deep distrust towards people who do not "fall in line" as easily as them.

To me, the most promising way to change the status quo is rather outside of the party system (because parties will adjust their stance anyway) than to become a politican or support a certain party strongly.

My personal view on it is that indirect or hidden effects are often more relevant than the effects that quickly come to mind. In this situation, I think opening up a new debate topic like "If I get elected, I will ban weapon deliveries to Israel" would have a very divisive effect on downballot races. For example, suddenly senatorial or house candidates get asked about what they think about it without having had the chance to construct a stance on that concrete question.

These people are running on different topics, like healthcare, abortion or workers rights and suddenly these winning topics are blown away for a topic that, depending on the country, may be a losing topic for them. And since they will come out on different sides on this, it will also mean democrat infighting 2 weeks before the election. Suddenly there is a guy like Fetterman in the Senate or some house candidates/members might be openly stating that he is not going to support that as a senator.

That kind of infighting is likely a huge turnoff for those voters who lean democrat right now (for different topics) but are not stressing it, in addition to democrat winning topics being pushed to the backround by that new polarizing topic. Even if most Americans would support a wepaons embargo, I just cannot see such a move end well for democrats.

The reason people are so comfortable ignoring the facts of the October 7th rape allegations is because you're essentially saying "Hey, they stripped women naked and took pictures of their dead bodies, but they weren't full on rapes so it's not as bad. Let's give the sex criminals the benefit of the doubt." As if Hamas and the other Palestinian groups responsible are somehow vindicated by the fact or something. It reads as sexual assault apologia, on top of the already heinous terrorist apologia.

Not to mention the people that are suddenly super skeptical about the rapes are the same Believe All Women types. And what's even worse is that the investigations aren't finished, and the UN has already come to the conclusion that there's "reasonable grounds to believe" that sexual violence was committed on Oct. 7th. And then there's the first hand accounts that I linked months ago of hostages admitting to sexual violence being committed against them or to other hostages around them.

It feels like grasping at straws.
A Tankie is not left, neither is a centrist democrat.
Do you know what a No True Scotsman fallacy is, by chance?
