Trump being a front-runner shows how goddamn laughable our political situation is in the United States. We are a violently declining society and this type of crazy nonsense is what will destroy us. Most Republicans I know LOVE Trump and say they are voting for him....seriously.

I am not really following the polictis side. However, what happened with Jeb Bush? I thought he would be a front runner as well.

Strong statement there. What makes her worse than any other establishment candidate (or would you say the same about them all)? Her husband is looked upon favourably and I'm sure Obama will be as well. Her policies are most likely to be centre-right politics much like theirs (probably more like Bill Clinton though), which is why she wouldn't be my first choice, but other than that I see little reason for concern. Out of those of you who would consider voting for a Democrat generally speaking, is there something else about her that you don't like, which sets her apart from other candidates? As far as I can tell, the only thing particularly different about Clinton from the others (other than her being a woman) is that people already *know* about and/or remember her best and worst public moments, while few know all that much about the pluses and minuses of folks running against her (aside from Donald Trump).
From the papers I've read here, she keeps hiding the email conversation and knew about Benghazi.

I don't think Obama will ever be looked at favorably in the US, not for decades anyway. I'm sure part of it is due to propaganda from Republicans who fought against everything OBama wanted to do, and it's Obama getting the flak for it. I also think him being black plays a big part of his getting criticized. Plus, a woman president seems wrong.

I ask because when I watch mainstream US news coverage, all I hear is "horse race" talk. Every single conversation seems to be about whether X and Y will help or hurt a candidate's chances to win. Increasingly, they've started using cute sports-related graphics that entirely acknowledge and embrace that they've become sports commentators rather than informers of the public on important matters.
I thought mainstream US news coverage went for digging up candidates' past and showing the questionable side of candidates they were against. but the news haven't done much of reporting in a long time, it's usually more about opinions than fair and unbiased coverage.

It's not much different in Canada, but recently I heard about our news media that in the distant past, news agencies used to focus on what the outcome would be if a candidate was elected-- what kind of leader the person would be and the consequences/benefits that could bring-- not in terms of charisma or popularity, but in terms of expected policies. Nowadays, everyone seems to be encouraged to base their vote entirely on instinct rather than information.
I think people are encouraged to vote based on tradition more than anything. Because their family is Republican or because they're REpublican, they should always vote Republican. Frankly, I can't imagine anyone wanting to vote for a dumbass who is a closet racist or someone who was against freedom because he's using Obama's lack of popularity to get votes.

If Trump wins, we're likely going to be THE hated country in the universe, and I wouldn't be shocked if we entered a war or got attacked. If Cruz wins, all someone has to say is "Obama came up with this!" and he'll probably try to repeal it or fight it because "it's the Obamacare of this or that!" I don't know about Jeb Bush though, but I'm guessing he's popular amongst the Republican newspapers because no article on anything bad he's done or dumb things he's said.

He and Bernie Sanders don't get much media attention, I think, soooo. Clinton gets attention because of her husband, and because she's a female. Newspapers and TV news talk about Cruz and Trump a lot (I presume), especially REpublican ones. I rarely read about Jeb Bush though. But Paul and Sanders aren't mentioned as much, IF at all.

Ron Paul isn't running, unfortunately; his son Rand (the fake libertarian) is. Mainstream media have actually been giving Bernie Sanders a surprising amount of attention. I don't expect he'll raise the advertising dollars a lot of the other candidates do though, so he's unlikely to actually "steal" the nomination from Clinton like Obama did. Sadly, half of candidacy is about fundraising after all.

Obama's popularity will bounce back just like Bill Clinton's did, once he's no longer under constant attack by Republican politicians-- probably faster since he doesn't have any major scandals hanging over him like Clinton did.

Regarding Hillary Clinton-- and keep in mind I'm not some enthusiastic supporter of hers, unlike some people I've talked with in the past-- it was never proven she knew any more about Benghazi happening than anyone else who wasn't there. It's definitely suspicious she didn't share the personal account's off-server e-mails, but that's more of an irritating show of the entitlement level of establishment candidates in general, than anything else. Just think about it logically: If she knew about anything in advance, don't you think she would have taken action, even if only just to make herself look good? There is no reason anyone of any party would have let one of your embassies go under attack when it could have been prevented.

I forgot to say: You know who isn't getting any attention in the media, that is running for president? Martin O'Malley.

Charlie is thinking of Rand Paul. Rand Paul is an Ayn Rand wet-dream mixed with just a hint of religious insanity. I'm a little shocked he isn't doing better in the polls, but I don't consider modern American libertarianism to be anything worth paying attention to; there are several fundamental misunderstandings in their political analysis.

Martin O'Malley is a Democratic tool. Black Lives Matter shut him down pretty good last week, and he responded with "all lives matter" and got booed by the crowd.

Again, I highly doubt Obama will ever be remotely popular, it'll take severe twisting of history for that to happen. He's seen as an ISIS sympathizer who wants to turn US into a socialist country. More support out of the country than in the country, funnily. I rarely see any non-US humans criticize him the way US citizens do.

Don't ask me, I think 99% of the politicians are shady, at best. Even when Bernie Sanders is saying shitloads of things I agree with, I can't help but feel suspicious as he seems too perfect a Democrat. I'd probably trust Trump more because at least he's frank, although I'd rather the country was ruled by a bushel of potatoes than him.

Any white person who says "all lives matter" in response to "black lives matter" is gonna get burned. No black person wants to hear that, especially when there's no known event of white people dying for no reason or for bullshit reason.

Honestly, I think, provided American history continues to be taught in the same fashion as it has been for the last 60 years, Obama will be remembered as a pretty decent President. He has presided over some major moments in our history. Though, like with every President, all the dissent (and most Presidents experienced majority dissent in their times) will be forgotten leaving only his mild accomplishments left to analyze. I could be wrong, but there are already more than one major paper labeling him the most successful President in our history so there's that.

What paper is that? I think American history will just say Obama wasn't popular after few months or years in office, and that he was consistently criticized. The books still mention Johnson's impeachment, Clinton's affair, Watergate Scandal, and Hoover's (or another president's?) failures.

This. If George W. Bush could regain popularity, then so can Obama. The general trend historically has been that a president's popularity bumps up once the heat is off. And don't assume that just because I'm not from the US, I'm unaware of how politics work there, or that because I say he'll regain some popularity that I'm not critical of him.

Are you sure though, it's not due to the successor/s being seen as horrible? I mean, Bush could have more approval more due to Obama being seen as a bad president. I wouldn't be shocked if it took a bad president like Trump for OBama to be loved again. "So Obama knew what he was doing after all when he didn't want to take on the ISIS head on!"

Here are two articles calling him one of the "greats:" This one isn't as reputable but this one is. Krugman is taken very seriously by conservatives, liberals, and even radicals whether or not they agree with him (which I tend not to especially on this).

The thing about using stats is that it doesn't paint a complete picture. Fewer job seekers, but apparently due to a lot of people giving up. Lower unemployment, but probably because people are hired for what, 20-hour shift per week or working for free? It's hard to measure what presidents have achieved during trouble.

America will have a more secured homeland, stronger and safer country, and an improved economy and education under a Republican president. We can return to a prosperous time to be an American.
