Drug that has no reason to be illegal, and I don't see how the money they save can be used to get a better job. Or that there's any guarantee of them getting a better job. Seems you're more likely to hire an incompetent white person over a skilled black person just because you feel more comfortable, and I'm sure there are many employers that feel the same.
Have you carried hot and heavy plates? Do you know anything about waiting on people, or are you just going with your assumptions and what ignorant people have said? Did you take into accounts that some department stores have messy clothes because there are a lot of people picking up clothes and dropping them back, and that there may not be enough employees to make sure the clothes are organized every minute of the day? I've gone to many department stores, and I've seen many employees fold clothes, stock stuff, and even lift heavy stuff.
If these people are struggling to get a meal then why are they off buying pricy illegal drugs? I would think that if people are living on the edge like that that they would be better at using the saved money to buy food or put forth to help them get through their technical or college classes. Books cost money.
Ive been to stores and seen tons of clothes laying scattered everywhere or back in the section. Workers are lazy and won't fold clothes until the end of the shift or until someone says something. And folding clothes is usually busy work, what they say in fast food is if you have time to lean then you have time to clean; meaning, when its slow then they should fold clothes. Though the problem is is why would they be working at this low energy job to support a family? Or worst, why would one even choose this job to make a mere $7.50 an hour. Worst, can you believe people want to make a simple job like this a $15 an hour job? That seems like over paying for something simple and easy. I fold clothes after washing and drying my clothes and it is an easy task that I do without even putting brain power into it.
I've also been to many restaurants with waiters and it also isn't a very high energy high brain powered job. Consider how there are many bad servers who barely check on their guests or go off in the back to fool around with coworkers and browse the internet on their iphones. These jobs are good enough for college students who don't want to take out loans, but beyond that, I would hope that no one is trying to raise a family or make it their career to take food orders, fold napkins, and fill drinks. And also no waiter is carrying that many hot and heavy plates, maybe they will carry at most four trays an hour. Easy.
People don't just end up in poverty due to bad "lifestyle" decisions. There is the simple fact that there are people born into that level of poverty and raised by people in that level of poverty. This sounds like you are implying pretty much everyone starts out "well" and they end up poor because they made bad choices. Which is simply not the case. Granted, there are situations where this does happen. But it would apply for someone who was born into a relatively good position and then simply fucked absolutely everything up. Which is a scenario which can't logically apply to people born into poverty.
Why do refugeees and immigrants come to America? To get and gain the American dream and opportunity. America is a land of opportunity and the country provides enough that
anyone can succeed if they just put their hardwork in. Many of the big companies in our country started from people working hard, opening a store, and making great decisions to quickly make their company huge. Where was the walmart family, McDonalds, dave thomas before their companys? Simple, one was an unsuccessful farmer that kept moving, another were immigrants from Ireland whose parents worked in a shoe factory, another adopted by a father who had trouble finding stable work. There were many other entrepreneurs who weren't born into wealth and made great names for themselves. To imply that people are born into poverty and stay there is pretty insane. Any and everybody makes decisions in life. If they make the right decisions they are able to escape where they are. I don't like the viewpoint you adopt as it kind of looks down on the people who are in impoverished situations and saying they are trapped there because of the circumstances and that no matter what they do or the effort they put in in life, they will be trapped there. Suggesting they need and deserve handouts is not the solution they need or even want. Do you want them on handouts and gifts from the government for their entire life while living in run down beat down apartments?
I said before that in America people go to high school for free and your achievements in high school can quickly results in monetary gifts to go to schools and more. Its not the parents or the countries fault if someone doesn't complete high school. Its the persons fault for making a bad decision. Its the persons fault for making a bad design if after high school they opt not to do any more schooling and are forced to end up in bottom of the barrel jobs. Its is only fair that people in these situations and jobs just end up with little to no government assistance while everyone else receives as many benefits and discounts as possible. We earned it afterall and deserve it.
Also, are you delusional? You think the vast majority of people simply choose poverty? That's outright idiotic... The issue is in no form of context people merely wanting to work harder and take better jobs. Just wanting a better job won't get you one. A job that pays more in almost all scenarios requires skills. Acquiring skills requires time and practice. Practice usually requires a school or a university or a class. So... how does someone barely getting by supposed to be able to put it in the time and money which is required to do this? Now, it is not impossible to do but.... You are talking about someone making around 15-20k a year (assuming a full time job and 20k is already well above minimum wage) somehow pulling off a full time job, eating, transport, housing and every other living expense along with getting an education.
It's not
impossible, its very possible, especially with all the financial aid being given to those of low income status. Hardwork always pays off in the end. If they have to work and do school then do it. A few years of hardwork now pays huge dividends in the 65+yr life expectancy for Americans.
What does hoarding money from discounts mean? Waste money on a quick meal? Why is suddenly a meal a waste? We are talking about people who might very well have to choose between a meal and say, medicine or transport. Fuck, if they get some extra cash and use it on a meal that's a good thing. Heck, that money used on food would support people making and selling food. Unless part of their punishment for their poor decision to be poor is to have to skip meals or something. Putting more money in the hands of poorer people would help the economy. The vast majority of them would spend in in basic necessities such as housing, food and medicine and some even in educations. Which would in turn boost the economy.
A meal doesn't last so its a waste of money. You mentioned earlier that people need to acquire skills, so the money ought to be used for acquiring skills. What will buying a meal at a multinational company like Mickey D's or Krispy Kreme accomplish? The company's arent going to live or die by this persons money so its effect of helping the economy is pretty miniscule. Skipping a meal or two is to be expecting for making a bad life decision and sacrifices have to be made in order to escape the punishment of it. I don't understand this need to defend people who aren't hardworking.
