Well, it seems like the new executive order, while being different, does not particularly do anything that could plausibly convince judges that it is not actually a muslim ban and instead it is a practical toll that will help solve some other issue. Apparently trump said something along the lines of "we need the ban so that we have time to figure out new immigration guidelines on those countries". Which is stupid even by trump standards.... So yeah, his idiocy being a foil to bannon's evil is a very real thing.
Like, as if in the time of the campaign and after that there wasnt enough time to think of a good immigration policy instead of wasting time with 1 and nor possibly 2 unconstituational bans.
Something else: A thing that is scaring me a bit is that by now, the left is using similar populist tactics as the right did before.
This is not exactly a new thing, but the intensity and quantity of, for example, youtube videos titles 'Watch Bernie Sanders DESTROYING Trump's statements' is worrying me.
It want populism and fake news to be fought, not the left employing them and elections becoming a fight between algorithms and content creators.
But the argument here is that it still proves that none of the listed nations are a severe threat. So unless the Trump Administration proves to them that there are threats coming from those named-nations, I doubt it will even remain in place for long.
Hell, there are people who're detained from countries that aren't even on the list, which is extremely absurd.

These points can still be made but this time the order is made to fit the constitution. If it is blocked it will be an embarrassment for Trump. Besides Obama himself issued travel ban on Iraq once in his term. I think there is some solid possibility that this ban won't be blocked by the judges.
Well, the previous one was overturned because of a combination of trump not being able to convince judges it wasn't a muslim ban and it apparently not serving any real purpose. I am not sure the current ban actually addresses those things. I guess that if the current ban is successful in convincing judges it is not a muslim ban even if it does not specifically target any real problems it might get approved. Though it would still be controversial. Now, in the previous decision trump's campaign promise of a muslim ban was relevant so we also can't rule out that being relevant here as well. If this is the case then the current travel ban could be seen as a light muslim ban to get something, anything, passed in which case it would remain incredibly unconstitutional. I do think the main challenge the current ban will face is "what non muslim purpose does this serve?" and it is completely possible the answer from the administration will remain, precisely as before, "none". In any case, I do think there is a slightly higher possibility that this one will be approved over the previous one.
It is still relevant that their argument for this is "they need to ban them until they figure out what to do". Are they trying to figure out something right now? It's not like they need a ban to work on their immigration policies. Assuming they actually want to fix immigration policies, this is something they should already be doing. They do not need a ban to change immigration policies and the notion they do should be considered insulting.

Well, yeah, it would absolutely be an embarrassment for trump. But at this point, who would notice that? Trump claiming obama spied on him was an embarrassment. "alternative facts" were an embarrassment for trump. Every second bannon is at the white house should be seen as every embarrassing moment trump has had combined into that second over and over again... And seriously, the claim that obama spied on him.... Why the hell is the president just claiming that based on what a bunch of conspiracy theorists said? Trump is the president of the USA, all he needs is to ask the intelligence agencies at his disposal and he will find out whether this is true or not. God help us....

Gotta say though, I am genuinely impressed that republicans presented their own alternative to obamacare. It is, IMO, several years late considering they have been talking about "repeal and replace" for god knows how long. From how it has been portrayed so far it seems to be basically obamacare lite. And it seems like it will guarantee access to health care but only in the sense that you will be able to get health care if you can afford it. I wonder how much infighting the law will create. From the perspective of many republicans the new bill should be seen as a defeat considering they are replacing regulation with, well, other regulation. At least from what I can tell so far, it does not seem to solve the issues that were inherent to obamacare. Lets see how trumpcare works....
How is that an excellent point? Healthcare costs far more than an iphone.
If you have a particularly costly disease, like chronic back pain, you will pay amounts that a normal worker simply cannot save up.

I am not sure of how to feel about this. On one hand, it is absolutely true trump did say he would not leave people without insurance once obamacare was repealed. On the other, anyone with a shred of common sense would have thought that was plain demagoguery because the potential replacement has existed for about a few hours now and this was last year. I guess the issue here is that trump probably absolutely meant his promise at the time, as he did most promises....

I do think that this is true and that a lot of people who had faith in him lost it.
The problem is that i think that these people will not learn their lesson from that and instead just trust the next demagogue.
Everyone gives up something for healthcare, whether it be wages with higher taxes taken out or choosing between an iphone vs a copay at the optometrist.
What are they going to challenge? If green card holders and visa holders arent banned, and religious language is removed, I cant see how theyd argue it is harming the rights of anyone previously cleared for entry. Its not like theres a god given right for anyone to enter the country.

But the reason you are banning people from these countries is flawed. If terrorists are the main concern then Saudi Arabia should be there before any other country.
Anyway there is high chances that this ban shall remain.
So, what are your bets on republican's health care alternative? Will they manage to pass it? It seems there is a fair bit of divide among them in regard to it. For some it seems kinda pointless to change regulation for regulation but I am thinking that at least eventually the majority will come around. Even if it's not the repeal some wanted at the worst it should be seen as a step in the right direction because it definitely has less regulation. I guess the question is to what extent will they listen to doctors and hospitals here as well considering they oppose the new law.
On top of an already-embarrassment of an Administration that he's having, he's acting irresponsible like the moron he's always been.
It's bad enough that he couldn't take responsibility for the death of an American Soldier in a failed-Yemen Raid and pins the blame on the Military, but for him to pin the blame on Democrats over something he and his shitty party has done? Jesus Christ, this is no better than Democrats yelling "RUSSIA/ELECTION IS RIGGED!".
Trump and the republicans are so unAmerican, and that's honestly all I need to know that the people who support them are pretty unAmerican themselves. Most of what they came up with, like the American Healthcare Act or some shit, are not good for Americans and hurt them severely, and then they use stupidass examples and assumptions like people buying iPhones being the reason they can't afford insurance.
Christ, these people don't even hide the fact that they're against non-wealthy Americans. Just sucks that those group are too blind or dumb to see it.
