Because mansions are owned by people and located in fancy neighborhoods where the land is absurdly expensive. For what you buy one mansion you can probably build something that accommodates far more families than you could in said mansion while also distributing space for families in a way that makes sense.

I dont think expecting people to give their money is realistic. This would delve into the wealth tax proposition which was proposed earlier and supported by Gates and Steve Ballmer. That could help but probably wiser to put it to use for healthcare.

And the most disgusting people imaginable are going to be pushed to high ranking political positions based on how skilled they are at dog-whistling to racists the same way that angry cheeto did.

At the risk of sounding too defeatist... I really, really don't think we should bother trying to convert rightwingers into leftwingers anymore. Cut our losses, you know?

I'd rather focus on courting non-voters into voting for left leaning politicians that are pushing progressive policies. Statistically speaking it's easier to accomplish than turning someone of the opposite party because the average American leans left already. Grifters keep talking about a culture war, but there is no culture war... at least not anymore, since the left has already won. Society is already largely liberal. From Hollywood, to media, to academia... we own it all. I don't think we're taking advantage of that fact enough.

I can name a few as well, but that's beside the point. You can't expect rich people to solve the homelessness problem. People like Gates have done great things by charity, investing in infrastructure, fighting diseases and all but they are stepping up because the governments aren't.

Homelessness can be solved, if you are willing to take the problem by the root and give housing even to those who seem incapable of living in a flat. You need to make them capable by helping them. Finland is so radical about it that, for the worst cases, they have 2 workers for one homeless person (for those cases that are delusional and violent) so they can still be kept off the streets.

And obviously, that pays off longterm. If you have a concept like that for people who just become homeless, they never end up as the addicted person who seems beyond help and runs through the subway.

Tax more or find a way to do it? Because the way the system is set up is bullshit, especially when it affects so many homeless people and impoverished sick people. Wealthy individuals have some power too, and they have the ability to help.
