People keep on bringing up what Truman did with Japan, as if that being a "success story" justifies staying there indefinitely. It's just a mess.
Ok, that's a bit of US history I am apparently unfamiliar with. Did the US stay in japan for several decades after world war two as a truman policy?

To be fair, no one gives a a flying anything about what you say now either. Not that it's relevant or anything....

People have to care what I say.

Or they wouldn't be running around now, feeling smart.

For repeating things I said 10 years ago.

In the future, you'll see people flexing. They'll repeat what I said about zinc being useful for treating corona. And all the other things I said that were months or years ahead of their time.

Those who repeat things I say will feel super smart, like they're head and shoulders above the sheeple.

...

If you want to be specific, I doubt anyone will ever repeat anything you say.

No offense but your views do not age well.

I mean, obviously not. And what have you been saying? That the Afghan war was a bad idea? Kudos, you figured out what most of the world already knew. Though if only 10 years back then roughly 10 years later than everyone else...

Welp, the studies you mentioned simply do not say what you claim. That much is a fact. Pretty much, the evidence for your claims is non existent. Now, if you do have actual evidence then by all means do share. But for arguments sake... lets say that some time from now studies actually pop out that vitamins and minerals actually help people who do not have any vitamin deficiencies and are otherwise perfectly healthy fight of covid. How is that relevant to your evidence-less claims today? What does it matter that you looked at something over the internet and guessed? Does that make you felt smrt? What is this nonsense about people feeling smart? This is utterly absurd and laughable... But yeah, sure, be an "investigator" and keep "connecting dots" to justify whatever this is lol.

So? I don't even have a twitter account, I absolutely do not want people quoting me on shit, let alone put my anonymity at risk... Heck, I'm not even an expert at anything, people shouldn't quote me.

Well I mean... they're very much still there. Just look at Okinawa. It's not like we're going to be maintaining any military bases in Afghanistan.

It was one part diplomatic contrition for the use of nukes, and the other is just the anti-Soviet Truman Doctrine in general.

Oh, I see. TBH I've only heard of the okinawa US base because of anime lol. I have no idea of its background or history. Gonna read up on that.

And what have you been saying?

"Nothing."

Let's just have a nice laugh, together. And see what we see.

HBO original series Vice did a few hit pieces on afghanistan and war in the middle east that were good.

--Deleted video clip, it wasn't the one I was looking for--

That was the best investigative journalism anywhere to be found at the time.

It's not just Okinawa, I think leadership is still in mainland Japan, but I guess citizens have tolerated it longer because most of the bases and personnel are in a more remote place, though still Japan obviously. IIRC the US also gets a pretty sweet deal with Japan funding most of the budget for maintaining the bases too. Not to say there's no benefit for both sides there, but this is an example of a military occupation gone "right" according to these types.

It’s a rare one too. Both sides clearly understand what they want, so that’s why you have this “partnership”, if you could call it that, has lasted for years. The U.S. and Afghan government just simply couldn’t commit to a single common interest between them (more on the Afghan side due to their corrupt government), that’s why you have this current situation.

I gotta wonder, what are the odds of Afghanistan falling into civil war from now?

Right? They thought it'd take like 90 days for the takeover to be underway. Shit happened in what... 3 days? Talk about dropping the ball.

I'm also proud that all of us Lefties are giving Biden shit for fucking up so bad. Never let it be said that we're partisan.

blaming biden is silly when it should lie with Obama.

Bush at least finished Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Obama should have pulled everyone out after announcing the end of Operation Enduring Freedom.

There's plenty of blame to go around, along with the obvious fact that every president since Bush has inherited a mess that he started.

Bush didn't finish anything, have we forgotten about ISIL?

To add to the bush bit, the Iraq war was built on the lies of imaginary WMDs and the consequences of it have been so absurdly disastrously they are still felt to this day. Both of bush's wars have been unmitigated disasters which have done nothing to make anyone safer and the consequences of both will continue to be felt for decades to come. Obama, trump and biden have dealt with the fallout in whichever way they could and whoever follows biden will continue to deal with the consequences of this nonsense.

And just to sort of remove the mirage of American occupation righting the wrongs of the previous regime, despite making child sex slavery illegal, it wasn't really enforced and the military mostly turned a blind eye to it.

Depends. Do you consider liberals/Biden supporters left? Because they're deflecting blame and defending Biden ferociously.

People are defending Biden? All I get in my newsfeed is from all angles biden is getting attacked over the possibility that he knew this might happen. Given how quickly the Afghan military surrendered without even a semblance of a fight and how politicians pretty much bailed immediately presumably with luggage full of money I don't see how it was unreasonable for the US army to leave. The afghan government and its military has been a sham for however long it has existed. It was literally always pointless and it was never going to be less pointless.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

On another note, I found some reports about the Afghan vice president having taken over as president and is apparently trying to mount a defense. This doesn't appear to have gotten much coverage in general. I suppose the new president's odds of getting Afghan shit together are slim at best...

Yes, people are defending Biden. I just said that they're deflecting all blame onto Trump (and none for Bush ironically), which isn't the issue. THe issue is that Biden is also guilty. The Afghan military likely saw no reason to keep fighting when they're surrounded by corruptness, from politicians to cops, so they gave up hope as they don't have proper support or equipment.

Is that supposed to have anything to do with Biden?

Closest thing I've seen to Biden being defended is folks saying "Yes, I agree that we needed to leave Afghanistan, just not like this." But I dunno, I'm terminally online so I'm paying attention to political streamers and stuff. I might be looking in the wrong place.
